   VALID 041200Z - 051200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MUCH OF THE SERN STATES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH/LOW WILL MOVE SEWD FROM THE GREAT LAKES TO OFF
THE EAST COAST THROUGH THE PERIOD. STRONG WINDS FIELDS WILL
ACCOMPANY THIS SYSTEM. VERY DRY SURFACE CONDITIONS DUE TO A RECENT
DRY SPELL OVER THE SERN STATES ALONG WITH LOW RH READINGS WILL
COMBINE WITH THE WINDS TO PRODUCE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS.
FARTHER WEST...AN UPPER LOW/TROUGH OVER THE SW WILL REMAIN NEARLY
STATIONARY PROVIDING FOR ANOTHER DAY OF VERY MOIST/COOL CONDITIONS
OVER THE REGION. A SECONDARY UPPER TROUGH IN THE NRN STREAM WILL
MOVE FROM SWRN CANADA INTO THE NCENTRAL STATES. THIS SYSTEM WILL AID
IN THE STRENGTHENING OF THE LEE TROUGH AND OF THE SLY LOW LEVEL JET
THROUGH THE NRN PLAINS DURING THE PERIOD. HOWEVER...IN THIS AREA
WINDS AND RH READINGS WILL BE BELOW CRITICAL LEVELS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - MOST OF GA/SC/FL/NC AND ERN AL...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 20 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO
   30 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 15 TO 25 PERCENT...INCIPIENT DROUGHT
   CONDITIONS

A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE SEWD THROUGH THE AREA DURING THE DAY. AHEAD
OF THE FRONT...WLY WINDS WILL INCREASE THROUGH THE MORNING OVER THE
REGION. WITH THE FRONTAL PASSAGE...WINDS WILL SHIFT TO A NWLY
DIRECTION. ONLY MODEST COOLING IS ANTICIPATED BEHIND THE FRONT OVER
MUCH OF SC/GA AND NRN FL...WITH COOLING MORE SUBSTANTIAL OVER NC.
DESPITE THE COOLING...TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN IN THE 60S TO 70S.
WITH THE PASSAGE OF THE COLD FRONT...STRONG DOWNWARD MOTION TO THE
LEE OF THE SRN APPALACHIANS WILL PROVIDE FOR LOW DEWPOINTS AND MIN
RH READINGS FROM 15 TO 25 PERCENT. STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND A
MODERATE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL GENERATE SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 20 TO
25 MPH AND CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

   ...NRN PLAINS...
SLY WINDS WILL INCREASE OVER THE REGION DURING THE AFTERNOON AS A
LEE TROUGH STRENGTHENS OVER THE HIGH PLAINS. SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 15
TO 20 MPH ARE ANTICIPATED. ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN THE
60S/LOWER 70S ALONG WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE 20S/30S WILL PROVIDE FOR
MIN RH READINGS FROM 25 TO 30 PERCENT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0404 AM CDT SUN APR 04 2004

   VALID 051200Z - 061200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER LOW/TROUGH WILL MOVE OFF THE EAST COAST THROUGH THE
PERIOD. WINDS ARE FORECAST TO DIMINISH OVER MUCH OF THE SERN STATES
AS SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS INTO THE LOWER MS RIVER VALLEY
BEHIND THE UPPER TROUGH. MODERATE WINDS ARE STILL ANTICIPATED TO BE
FOUND OVER THE MID-ATLANTIC. BUT IN THIS REGION COOL TEMPERATURES
WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE NATION...SLY WINDS WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE OVER
THE CENTRAL PLAINS...AS A SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVES TROUGH THE UPPER
MIDWEST. WHILE THE UPPER LOW OVER THE SWRN STATES WILL BEGIN TO
EJECT EWD THROUGH THE SRN ROCKIES.

   ...NC/VA...
SUSTAINED WNWLY WINDS FROM 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH OVER VA
WILL OCCUR THROUGH THE PERIOD AS STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND
STRONG WIND FIELDS WILL REMAIN OVER THE AREA CLOSER TO THE DEPARTING
UPPER TROUGH. DESPITE THESE MODERATE WINDS STRONG COLD ADVECTION
WILL KEEP TEMPERATURES IN THE 50S...PRECLUDING A CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER THREAT.

   ...CENTRAL PLAINS...
SUSTAINED SLY WINDS FROM 15 TO 25 MPH WILL OCCUR AHEAD OF A WEAK
COLD FRONT WHICH WILL MOVE SWD THROUGH THE NRN PLAINS DURING THE
DAY. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE FORECAST TO OCCUR FROM KS NEWD INTO IA
ALONG THE LOW LEVEL JET AXIS. MIN RH READINGS AROUND 30 PERCENT
ALONG WITH THESE MARGINALLY STRONG WINDS WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER THREAT IN THIS AREA.

   ...SERN STATES...
DESPITE VERY DRY AMBIENT CONDITIONS WITH ANOTHER DAY OF MIN RH
READINGS AROUND 20 PERCENT...DECREASING WINDS WILL OCCUR AS SURFACE
HIGH PRESSURE MOVES INTO THE LOWER MS VALLEY. THUS SUSTAINED WINDS
FROM 10 TO 15 MPH WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
