   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK

   0220 AM CDT SAT MAY 29 2004

   VALID 291200Z - 301200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ERN AZ/NM/SRN CO/W TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
EARLY MORNING WATER VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATES AN UPPER IMPULSE MOVING
ACROSS NM/AZ...WITH ANOTHER SHORTWAVE TROUGH ACROSS CNTRL CA. THE CA
SPEED MAX WILL MOVE OVER AZ/NM TODAY...RESULTING IN STRONG SFC WINDS
ACROSS MUCH OF THE SOUTHWEST/SRN HIGH PLAINS. SFC LOW PRESSURE WILL
DEEPEN ACROSS SD IN RESPONSE TO LARGE SCALE HEIGHT FALLS...WITH A
SECONDARY LOW FORMING ACROSS SE CO/W KS BY MIDDAY. A COLD FRONT WILL
EXTEND ACROSS ERN NEB/W KS/NRN NM BY 30/00Z...WITH A DRYLINE ACROSS
WRN OK INTO W CNTRL TX.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - ERN AZ/NM/SRN CO/W TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SFC WINDS 20-25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS
/ MINIMUM RH VALUES BELOW 15 PERCENT / HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER
   CLASS VALUES

EARLY MORNING VAD WIND PROFILER DATA/RUC ANALYSIS SUGGEST 50-55 KT
SPEED MAX IS NEAR FRESNO CA...AND WILL BE LOCATED NEAR WINSLOW AZ BY
29/18Z. MEANWHILE...THE COLD FRONT WILL NOT MOVE ACROSS SRN CO/NRN
NM UNTIL MID TO LATE AFTN...SO THIS AREA WILL BE IN A WARM DRY
AIRMASS MOST OF THE DAY. AFTER FRONTAL PASSAGE...WINDS WILL SHIFT
FROM SW TO W...WITH SLIGHTLY INCREASING RH VALUES. FOR MOST OF THE
DAY HOWEVER...STRONG W/SWLY SFC WINDS OF 20-25 MPH WILL POSE THE
MAIN FIRE WEATHER THREAT. MINIMUM RH VALUES GENERALLY WILL RANGE
FROM 8-14 PERCENT. FARTHER EAST...THE DRYLINE WILL MIX EAST ACROSS
THE TX PANHANDLE INTO W CNTRL TX...AND RH VALUES WILL DROP QUICKLY
   BELOW 15 PERCENT.
