   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK

   0352 AM CDT SUN AUG 01 2004

   VALID 011200Z - 021200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CNTRL/ERN NV AND FAR WRN UT...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR UT/FAR WRN CO/NRN AZ/ERN NV...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
LITTLE OVERALL PATTERN CHANGE TO OCCUR TODAY AS UPPER RIDGE
ENCOMPASSES MUCH OF THE WRN/CNTRL CONUS. ASSOCIATED HOT AIRMASS WILL
CONTINUE TO EXPAND EWD INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY. MODERATE BELT
OF WESTERLIES WILL REMAIN ALONG THE U.S./CANADIAN BORDER...WHILE
QUASI-STATIONARY UPPER TROUGH CONTINUES TO PIVOT ALONG THE NRN CA
COAST. IN THE EAST...RAINFALL WILL BE COMMON ACROSS THE
   ATLANTIC/GULF COAST STATES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - CNTRL/ERN NV AND FAR WRN UT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS AND HOT TEMPS/LOW RH

SLIGHTLY INCREASED PRESSURE GRADIENT...OWING TO THERMAL LOW INVOF
NV/CA BORDER AND UT/WRN CO HIGH PRESSURE...WILL SUPPORT GUSTY SLY
WINDS THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING ACROSS MUCH OF THE CNTRL/SRN GREAT
BASIN. SUSTAINED SLY WINDS AROUND 20 MPH WILL LIKELY DEVELOP BY
AFTERNOON...WITH GUSTS TO 35-40 MPH. OTHERWISE HOT/DRY CONDITIONS
WILL PREVAIL...WITH 90S COMMON AND MINIMUM RH VALUES AROUND 10-15
   PERCENT.

   ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 2 - UT/FAR WRN CO/FAR NRN AZ/ERN NV...

   PRIMARY CONDITIONS: DRY THUNDERSTORMS

MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD NWD INTO THE FOUR CORNERS
AREA/GREAT BASIN TODAY ON WRN PERIPHERY OF UPPER RIDGE AND
DOWNSTREAM OF COASTAL CA UPPER TROUGH. A SCATTERED COVERAGE OF TSTMS
IS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON/TONIGHT OWING TO SUFFICIENT INSTABILITY
AND DYNAMIC ASCENT/OROGRAPHIC FORCING. DRY TSTMS ARE EXPECTED TO BE
PREDOMINANT THIS AFTERNOON OWING TO WELL MIXED BOUNDARY
LAYER/INVERTED-V PROFILES AND RELATIVELY LOW PRECIP WATER VALUES
   /0.6-0.75 IN/.

THIS DRY TSTM SCENARIO MAY YIELD NEW FIRE STARTS GIVEN THE FAVORABLE
CONDITIONS FOR IGNITION...IN ADDITION TO ADVERSE IMPACTS OF
ERRATIC/ENHANCED WINDS FROM TSTM DOWNBURSTS/OUTFLOWS ON ANY ONGOING
   FIRES.

   ...PACIFIC NORTHWEST...
ISOLD DRY TSTMS AND/OR DRY AND WET TSTM COMBINATION WILL BE POSSIBLE
AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING ACROSS PORTIONS OF ORE INTO NRN CA AS
UPPER TROUGH REMAINS ALONG THE CA COAST. CONDITIONS WILL OTHERWISE
REMAIN HOT AND DRY...WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 90S FOR INTERIOR
PORTIONS OF ORE/CA. AS HAS BEEN THE CASE...BROAD SCALE WINDS ARE
FORECAST TO REMAIN RATHER LIGHT /GENERALLY 10 MPH OR LESS/.
