   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0359 AM CDT THU AUG 26 2004

   VALID 261200Z - 271200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UNSEASONABLY STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO DIG ACROSS THE WRN
CONUS WITH BUILDING HIGH PRESSURE IN THE GULF OF AK. LEAD IMPULSE
NOW OVER THE DAKOTAS WILL SLOWLY MOVE NEWD INTO WRN ONTARIO THROUGH
THE PERIOD. ANOTHER SHORTWAVE TROUGH/SPEED MAX WILL PROGRESS THROUGH
THE MODERATELY STRONG FLOW ALOFT INTO NCNTRL CA/NV/UT/CO. THE
STRENGTHENING RIDGE ASSOCIATED WITH DIGGING UPPER TROUGH WILL SET UP
A FIRE WEATHER PATTERN FAVORABLE FOR OFFSHORE WINDS/LOW RH VALUES
OVER NRN CA. ANOTHER AREA WHICH WILL HAVE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS WILL BE PORTIONS OF THE GREAT BASIN INTO WRN CO. AT THE
SFC...LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE EWD ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST
WITH COLD FRONT EXTENDING WSW FROM ERN NEB INTO NRN UT/NRN NV BY
EARLY EVENING. ANOTHER SFC FEATURE OF INTEREST WILL BE A DRYLINE
WHICH WILL MIX EWD INTO CNTRL OK/WCNTRL TX THIS AFTN.

   ...GREAT BASIN/SRN UT/WRN CO...
MODERATELY STRONG SFC WINDS WILL AGAIN OCCUR OVER MUCH OF THIS AREA.
THE COLD FRONT WILL STALL OVER NRN UT/NRN NV SO THIS AREA WILL
REMAIN IN THE DRIER AND WARMER AIRMASS...RESULTING IN RH VALUES
RANGING FROM 15-20 PERCENT. SUSTAINED WINDS WILL INCREASE INTO THE
15-25 MPH RANGE WITH HIGHER GUSTS TO 35-40 MPH POSSIBLE. SINCE
WIDESPREAD CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE NOT EXPECTED...NO
AREA WILL BE ISSUED. HOWEVER...PER COORDINATION WITH LOCAL
OFFICES...FIRE WEATHER WATCHES OR RED FLAG WARNINGS WILL BE ISSUED
   AS NECESSARY.

   ...NRN INTERIOR CA...
BUILDING HIGH PRESSURE OFF THE WEST COAST WILL RESULT IN OFFSHORE
WINDS/DRIER CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA. THERE ARE SEVERAL VARIABLES
IN QUESTION WHICH WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA.
MODERATE TO STRONG / 15-30 MPH / N/NE WINDS WILL INCREASE BY MID OR
LATE AFTN AND CONTINUE INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. LOCAL FACTORS /
DOWNSLOPE WINDS AND FOEHN EFFECTS / WILL LEAD TO SOME WINDY
CONDITIONS. FORECAST DEWPOINTS ARE EXPECTED IN THE LOW/MID 40S WHICH
WOULD YIELD MINIMUM RH VALUES IN THE 15-20 PERCENT RANGE GIVEN MAX
   TEMPS IN THE MID/UPPER 80S.

IN ADDITION...SHORT RANGE ENSEMBLE GUIDANCE SUGGESTS A VERY LOW
PROBABILITY THAT RH VALUES WILL FALL BELOW 15 PERCENT AT LEAST
   ACROSS A WIDESPREAD AREA.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0403 AM CDT THU AUG 26 2004

   VALID 271200Z - 281200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
PATTERN WILL BE PROGRESSIVE ON FRI...WITH SHORTWAVE TROUGH NOW
APPROACHING GREAT BASIN TO BE LOCATED ACROSS THE NRN ROCKIES EARLY
IN THE PERIOD. AS THIS DISTURBANCE EJECTS INTO THE HIGH PLAINS BY
EARLY EVENING...PRESSURE GRADIENT ASSOCIATED WITH WRN RIDGE WILL
RELAX. FARTHER EAST...LEAD SHORTWAVE WILL APPROACH HUDSON BAY WITH
60-70 KT JET MAX EXTENDING FROM THE WRN GREAT LAKES INTO THE CNTRL
PLAINS. SFC COLD FRONT WILL MOVE E ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES REGION
EXTENDING FROM LOWER MI/CNTRL IL/SW OK BY LATE FRI AFTN. MEANWHILE
COLD FRONT OVER WRN CO/NRN NV WILL MAKE SRN PROGRESS INTO SRN UT/SRN
NV WHICH WILL RESULT IN COOLER TEMPS/HIGHER RH VALUES. WITH
DEPARTURE OF STRONG UPPER JET...SFC WINDS WILL ALSO BE DIMINISHED
   FROM PREVIOUS DAYS.

   ...NRN INTERIOR CA...
STRONG OFFSHORE WINDS MAY BE ONGOING AT THE START OF THE
PERIOD...BUT AS HIGH PRESSURE BEGINS TO DE-AMPLIFY DURING THE
DAY...WINDY CONDITIONS SHOULD DIMINISH BY EARLY EVENING. MAX
TEMPERATURES WILL BE WARMER THAN ON THU IN THE INTERIOR NRN CA
VALLEYS...GENERALLY IN THE LOW/MID 90S...AND THIS WILL RESULT IN
   LOWER RH VALUES.
