   0410 AM CDT SAT OCT 09 2004

   VALID 091200Z - 101200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR GREAT BASIN/SRN NEVADA/NRN
   COLORADO RIVER VALLEY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
CRITICAL AND NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR OVER
PORTIONS OF THE WEST TODAY IN ASSOCIATION WITH A STRONG PACIFIC
   TROUGH AND SURFACE COLD FRONT.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NATION...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WITH DEWPOINTS IN
THE 30S AND 40S MOVES FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS TOWARD THE GREAT LAKES
REGION. SOUTHEAST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH DEVELOP OVER THE CENTRAL
DAKOTAS...ALTHOUGH DEWPOINTS FROM 35 TO 40 DEGREES AND TEMPERATURES
IN THE LOWER 70S KEEP RH VALUES ABOVE 30 PERCENT.

THE SOUTHEAST U.S. IS PRIMARILY UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A MOIST
SOUTHERLY FLOW...WHILE ANOTHER WARM AND DRY DAY WITH GENERALLY LIGHT
WINDS IS EXPECTED IN THE FAR SOUTHWEST.

   ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - GREAT BASIN/SRN NEVADA/NRN
   COLORADO RIVER VALLEY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: WINDY WITH LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY

THE APPROACH OF A STRONG PACIFIC TROUGH AND SURFACE COLD FRONT WITH
STRENGTHENING MID LEVEL FLOW WILL PRODUCE SUSTAINED SOUTHWEST WINDS
OF 20 TO 25 MPH AND GUSTS OVER 30 MPH THIS AFTERNOON. PREFRONTAL
TEMPERATURES IN CENTRAL NEVADA AND WESTERN UTAH WARM INTO THE 70S
WITH RH READINGS AROUND 10 TO 15 PERCENT. IN SOUTHERN NEVADA AND
THE NORTHERN COLORADO RIVER VALLEY WINDS INCREASE TO 15 TO 30 MPH.
AS TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS REACH OR EXCEED 90 DEGREES
RH LEVELS FALL TO 8 TO 13 PERCENT. THUS...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EASILY MET OVER PORTIONS OF THE GREAT
BASIN...SOUTHERN NEVADA...AND THE NORTHERN COLORADO RIVER VALLEY
TODAY. BY 00 UTC THE SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL APPROACH THE SOUTHERN
GREAT BASIN WITH RH INCREASING TO 25 TO 35 PERCENT OVER CENTRAL
NEVADA ALONG WITH AN INCREASING CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION. GUSTY
WINDS AND DRY CONDITIONS MAY PERSIST INTO THE EARLY EVENING IN
SOUTHERN NEVADA AND THE NORTHERN COLORADO RIVER VALLEY...
PARTICULARLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS. BY 03 UTC SURFACE
COOLING/DECREASING SURFACE WIND SHOULD END CRITICAL CONDITIONS IN
   ALL AREAS.

   ...ERN ID/NRN ROCKIES...
WINDS OVER 20 MPH AND A RELATIVELY DRY AIRMASS WITH RH VALUES AROUND
25 PERCENT CREATE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR A COUPLE
OF HOURS THIS AFTERNOON. INCREASING CLOUDS LIMITING SURFACE HEATING
AND DEWPOINTS IN THE MIDDLE 20S TO LOWER 30S KEEP HUMIDITY LEVELS
OUTSIDE OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THRESHOLDS.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0515 AM CDT SAT OCT 09 2004

   VALID 101200Z - 111200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF NRN CA...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN/CNTRL AZ...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER TROUGH MOVING INTO THE WEST IS EXPECTED TO CUTOFF OVER THE
SOUTHWEST U.S. SUNDAY...CAUSING A SURFACE COLD FRONT TO STALL ACROSS
SOUTHERN NEVADA AND SOUTHEAST UTAH. AS SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS
INTO PACIFIC NORTHWEST...DRY NORTHERLY WINDS CREATE CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER PORTIONS OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. SOUTH OF
UPPER LOW CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE ALSO EXPECTED OVER
   PARTS OF ARIZONA.

A QUIET FIRE WEATHER PATTERN EXISTS OVER THE REMAINDER OF THE
COUNTRY. UPPER TROUGHS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE NORTHWEST AND
NORTHEAST...WITH HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE AND ALOFT OVER THE
UPPER MIDWEST AND GREAT LAKES REGION.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - NRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: NORTH/NORTHEAST WINDS WITH LOW RH

SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST RESULTS IN
A STRONG NORTH TO SOUTH PRESSURE GRADIENT ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
SUNDAY. NORTH TO NORTHEAST DOWNSLOPE WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH BRING A
DRY CONTINENTAL AIRMASS TO THE NORTHERN SIERRA MOUNTAINS...
SACRAMENTO VALLEY...AND COASTAL MOUNTAINS WITH SURFACE DEWPOINTS IN
THE UPPER TEENS AND LOWER 20S. MINIMUM RH VALUES OF 10 PERCENT ARE
EXPECTED WITH THE GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 2 - SRN/CNTRL AZ...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: WIND WITH LOW RH

AS THE UPPER LOW CUTS OFF OVER SOUTHERN NEVADA SUNDAY SOUTH TO
SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 15 TO 30 MPH DEVELOP OVER PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN
AND CENTRAL ARIZONA DURING THE AFTERNOON. SEASONABLY WARM
TEMPERATURES A FEW DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...INCREASING MID LEVEL WINDS
IN THE BASE OF THE UPPER LOW...AND MINIMUM RH VALUES AROUND 15
PERCENT LEAD TO WINDY AND DRY CONDITIONS THAT SHOULD EXCEED CRITICAL
THRESHOLDS. THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE OVER CENTRAL AND
NORTHERN ARIZONA. THE RELATIVELY FAST FLOW AND LIMITED MOISTURE
MEANS A FEW DRY THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE OVER FAR NORTHERN
   SECTIONS OF THE OUTLOOK AREA.
