   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0301 AM CDT FRI JUN 17 2005

   VALID 171200Z - 181200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A PORTION OF THE GREAT BASIN EWD
   INTO THE COLORADO RIVER VALLEY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UNSEASONABLY FAR SOUTH UPPER TROUGH/LOW OVER THE WEST COAST WILL
MOVE LITTLE THROUGH THE PERIOD. EMBEDDED SHORTWAVE TROUGHS WILL
ROTATE AROUND THE MAIN UPPER LOW AND MOVE NEWD ACROSS THE GREAT
BASIN...CNTRL/NRN ROCKIES. MODERATE SFC WINDS WILL RESULT OVER MUCH
OF THE GREAT BASIN AND WRN PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHWEST STATES IN
RESPONSE TO THE UPPER FEATURES. COMBINED WITH SEASONABLY LOW RH
READINGS...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT WILL EXIST OVER PORTIONS
OF THIS REGION. MODERATE WINDS/LOW RH READINGS WILL EXTEND NEWD INTO
THE CENTRAL ROCKIES BUT GREENUP OVER THIS REGION WILL PRECLUDE A
   CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT ATTM.

   ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - SRN/ERN NV...SRN/CENTRAL UT...SERN
   CA AND NWRN/NCENTRAL AZ...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH...MIN RH
   READINGS FROM 8-15 PERCENT

STRONG UPPER LOW CENTERED OFF THE ORE COAST AT THE START OF DAY ONE
WILL MOVE LITTLE THROUGH THE PERIOD. AN ASSOCIATED SHORTWAVE TROUGH
SHOULD MOVE NEWD ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN INTO THE NRN ROCKIES TODAY.
MID LEVEL WIND MAX ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL EXTEND FROM
ERN/SRN NV INTO NERN UT TODAY. EAST OF A COLD FRONT WHICH WILL
EXTEND ACROSS WRN/NRN NV...WARM/DRY CONDITIONS WILL ALLOW FOR MIXING
OF MID LEVEL WINDS TO THE SFC AND PROVIDE FOR SUSTAINED SWLY SURFACE
WINDS FROM 20-30 MPH...WITH THE HIGHEST WINDS AND GUSTS OVER 40 MPH
ACROSS HIGHER TERRAIN. COMBINED WITH MIN RH READINGS RANGING FROM
8-15 PERCENT...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT WILL EXIST. WINDS WILL
LIKELY DIMINISH TO BELOW 20 MPH AFTER 03Z OVER LOWER ELEVATIONS.

...NERN UT....NWRN/WCENTRAL CO AND SWRN/CENTRAL WY...
MODERATE SURFACE SWLY WINDS WILL EXTEND NEWD FROM THE CRITICAL AREA
TODAY IN RESPONSE TO PROXIMITY OF THE REGION TO BELT OF STRONGER MID
LEVEL FLOW. DESPITE THE PRESENCE OF MIN RH READINGS LESS THAN 15
PERCENT OVER THE AREA...GREENUP REMAINS UNDERWAY OVER THE REGION AND
THUS THE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT SHOULD BE MITIGATED.

   ...SWRN CO/WRN NM...ECENTRAL AZ...
AREA WILL REMAIN FAR ENOUGH SE OF BELT OF STRONG MID LEVEL FLOW THAT
SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS WILL AVERAGE BETWEEN 15-20 MPH. THUS DESPITE
LOW RH READINGS FROM 6-12 PERCENT...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT
   IS NOT APPARENT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0302 AM CDT FRI JUN 17 2005

   VALID 181200Z - 191200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A PORTION OF THE GREAT BASIN...NRN
   PLATEAU AND FOUR CORNERS REGION...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER TROUGH OVER THE WEST COAST WILL SLOWLY MOVE EWD BETWEEN DAY
ONE AND DAY TWO. THE CONSEQUENT EFFECT WILL BE TO SEE A SLIGHT EWD
EXTENSION OF THE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS INTO PORTIONS OF
WRN CO...NWRN NM AND NERN AZ. OTHERWISE...THE REMAINDER OF THE
REGION THAT HAD CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ON DAY ONE WILL
HAVE REPEAT CONDITIONS ON DAY TWO. AGAIN AS ON DAY ONE...MODERATE
SWLY WINDS WILL EXTEND NEWD INTO WY AND NRN CO...HOWEVER GREENUP
OVER THE REGION WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE NATION NO OTHER CRITICAL OR NEAR CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE ANTICIPATED.

   ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - SERN CA...SRN/ERN NV...SRN/CENTRAL
UT...FAR NWRN NM AND WRN CO...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH...MIN RH
   READINGS FROM 8-15 PERCENT

ANOTHER SHORTWAVE TROUGH ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER LOW ALONG THE
WEST COAST OF ORE IS ANTICIPATED TO MOVE OVER THE REGION DURING THE
DAYTIME HOURS. DUE TO THE SLIGHT EWD MOVEMENT OF THE LARGE SCALE
PATTERN AND SHORTWAVE TROUGH...MODERATELY STRONG SWLY WINDS ARE FCST
TO DEVELOP ACROSS NERN AZ...NWRN NM AND PORTIONS OF WRN CO DURING
THE AFTERNOON HOURS. COMBINED WITH MIN RH READINGS FROM 8-15
PERCENT...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT WILL EXTEND INTO THIS
REGION ON DAY TWO. FARTHER WEST...SIMILAR CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED
BETWEEN DAY ONE AND DAY TWO. EAST OF A COLD FRONT EXTENDING ACROSS
WRN/NRN NV...WARM/DRY CONDITIONS WILL ALLOW FOR MIXING OF MID LEVEL
WINDS TO THE SFC AND PROVIDE FOR SUSTAINED SWLY SURFACE WINDS FROM
20-30 MPH. THUS A CRITICAL OUTLOOK AREA WILL AGAIN OCCUR FOR MUCH OF
THE SRN/ERN GREAT BASIN...SRN WASATCH MTNS AND COLORADO RIVER
   VALLEY.

   ...ECENTRAL AZ...MUCH OF NM...SCENTRAL CO...
REMOVED FROM THE STRONGER MID LEVEL FLOW...SUSTAINED SURFACE SWLY
WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE AGAIN FROM 15-20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
UNDER VERY WARM MID LEVEL TEMPERATURES...LOW RH READINGS FROM 6-10
PERCENT WILL OCCUR. HOWEVER...WINDS WILL REMAIN LOW ENOUGH THAT A
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT IS NOT ANTICIPATED.

   ...NRN CO...WY...
AGAIN ON DAY TWO DRY/BREEZY CONDITIONS WILL EXTEND NEWD INTO THE
REGION. HOWEVER...GREENUP SHOULD PRECLUDE ANY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
   THREAT.
