   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0409 AM CDT SUN JUL 17 2005

   VALID 171200Z - 181200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
EARLY MORNING WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS STRONG UPPER LEVEL TROUGH IS
NOW CROSSING THE NRN ROCKIES WHILE HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS ANCHORED
ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST. MAIN TROUGH AXIS WILL MOVE ACROSS THE DAKOTAS
BY THIS EVENING AND INTO THE UPPER MS VALLEY OVERNIGHT. TROUGH IS
IMPRESSIVE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR...WITH 90-120 METER/12HR HEIGHT
FALLS. AT THE SFC...MAIN SYNOPTIC LOW WILL DEEPEN RAPIDLY AS IT
MOVES EWD INTO ONTARIO. COLD FRONT WILL EXTEND FROM WRN LAKE
SUPERIOR INTO THE CNTRL PLAINS BY EVENING. VERY STRONG SFC WINDS
WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS/DAKOTAS BEHIND THE
FRONT...INCREASING THE THREAT FOR WIND DRIVEN FIRES.

   ...ERN MT/ERN WY/DAKOTAS...
VERY STRONG SFC WINDS WILL DEVELOP TODAY DUE TO THE TIGHT PRESSURE
GRADIENT BETWEEN THE DEPARTING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND THE BUILDING
HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE NRN ROCKIES. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20-35 MPH
WITH HIGHER GUSTS ARE LIKELY. RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM
90 DEGREES AT BIG PINEY WY TO 109 AT RAPID CITY WERE OBSERVED ON
SATURDAY. BUT...MAX TEMPS WILL BE DRAMATICALLY COOLER
TODAY...GENERALLY IN THE 70S TO LOWER 80S. MINIMUM RH VALUES WILL
REMAIN ABOVE 25-30 PERCENT...BUT THE VERY STRONG WINDS WILL INCREASE
THE DANGER FOR WIND DRIVEN OR ONGOING FIRES.

   ...DRY LIGHTNING...
TSTMS WILL AGAIN BE POSSIBLE ACROSS AZ/NM/CO GENERALLY FOCUSED ALONG
THE MOGOLLON RIM/CNTRL NM MTNS INTO WRN/CNTRL CO. ISOLD DRY
LIGHTNING WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH SOME STORMS...BUT THE MAIN CONCERN
MAY BE STRONG CONVECTIVE WIND GUSTS.
