   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   1259 AM CST FRI MAR 24 2006

   VALID 241200Z - 251200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MUCH OF NRN/CENTRAL ALA...FAR SRN
   AL/SRN GA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
DEEP UPPER LOW OVER THE GREAT LAKES AND BROAD TROUGH OVER THE ERN
CONUS WILL SLOWLY MOVE EWD THROUGH THE PERIOD. A LARGE AREA OF HIGH
PRESSURE WILL DOMINATE MUCH OF THE CENTRAL/ERN PORTION OF THE NATION
PROVIDING FOR BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. MODERATE NWLY WINDS WILL
OCCUR OVER THE SERN STATES IN THE WAKE OF A COLD FRONT/LOW PRESSURE
CENTER MOVING OFF THE SERN COAST THIS MORNING. DRY AIR AND MILD
TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH THESE WINDS TO PROVIDE FOR CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER MUCH OF NRN/CENTRAL ALA AND FAR SRN AL.

FURTHER WEST...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL PROVIDE FOR ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES TO MUCH OF THE FOUR CORNERS AREA/DESERT SW. RELATIVELY
LIGHT WINDS WILL PRECLUDE ANY FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS IN THIS REGION.
MEANWHILE...THE LEE TROUGH WILL REDEVELOP OVER THE SRN HIGH PLAINS
ALLOWING FOR SLY WINDS TO GRADUALLY INCREASE TO 10-15 MPH OVER WRN
   TX/ERN NM THIS AFTERNOON.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA 1 - FAR SRN AL/SRN GA...MUCH OF
   NRN/CENTRAL FL...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED NWLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WITH GUSTS
UP TO 25 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 30-35 PERCENT...SHORT TERM
   DROUGHT

STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND MODERATE WIND FIELDS IN THE LOW
LEVELS WILL SUPPORT SUSTAINED NWLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH. DRY AIR
WITH DEWPTS IN THE 30S AND 40S /AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE WEST COAST/
WILL COUNTERACT COOLER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S/LOWER 70S
TO ALLOW FOR MIN RH READINGS TO FALL TO BELOW CRITICAL LEVELS.
ALTHOUGH DRY AIR WILL REACH SRN FL...MUCH OF SRN FL RECEIVED 0.5 TO
1 INCH OF RAINFALL LAST NIGHT. THIS SHOULD BE A SUFFICIENT WETTING
RAINFALL TO PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT IN THIS AREA.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0102 AM CST FRI MAR 24 2006

   VALID 251200Z - 261200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A BROAD UPPER TROUGH WILL REMAIN OVER THE ERN CONUS THROUGH
TOMORROW. NWLY WINDS SHOULD GRADUALLY DIMINISH OVER THE SERN
STATES...BUT CONDITIONS WILL STILL BE CLOSE TO CRITICAL WHERE DRY
AIR RESIDES OVER FLA...SRN AL/SRN GA. FURTHER WEST...AN UPPER RIDGE
THAT WAS PRESENT OVER THE WEST ON DAY ONE WILL MOVE EWD INTO THE
PLAINS AS A STRONG UPPER TROUGH DIGS INTO THE GREAT BASIN.
INCREASING SURFACE WINDS WILL OCCUR OVER THE SRN GREAT BASIN/LOWER
COLORADO RIVER VALLEY IN ADVANCE OF THIS SYSTEM. COMBINED WITH LOW
RH READINGS...FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL APPROACH CRITICAL LEVELS
IN THE LOWER COLORADO RIVER VALLEY.

   ...FLA...SRN AL/GA...
A SLIGHT WEAKENING IN THE LOW LEVEL WIND FIELDS/PRESSURE GRADIENT IS
ANTICIPATED TO OCCUR BETWEEN DAY ONE AND DAY TWO OVER THE SERN
STATES AS THE UPPER SYSTEM SLOWLY LOSES STRENGTH. THE NET RESULT
WILL BE SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS RANGING FROM 10-15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP
TO 20 MPH. DESPITE ANOTHER DAY OF EXPECTED MIN RH READINGS BELOW 35
PERCENT...THESE WEAKER WINDS WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
   OUTLOOK ISSUANCE.

   ....LOWER COLORADO RIVER VALLEY...
AHEAD OF A STRONG UPPER SYSTEM...SSWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE OVER THE
SRN GREAT BASIN AND LOWER COLORADO RIVER VALLEY. RELATIVELY WARM
TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S WILL COMBINE WITH DWPTS IN THE 20S TO
PRODUCE MIN RH READINGS AROUND 15 PERCENT. A LARGE AREA OF HIGH
CLOUDS SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF MILES OFF THE SRN CA COAST IS ANTICIPATED
TO BE DRAWN NEWD INTO THE REGION TOMORROW IN ADVANCE OF THE UPPER
SYSTEM. THE AMT OF HIGH CLOUD COVER COULD BE SUFFICIENT TO REDUCE
LOW LEVEL MIXING AND THUS YIELD WEAKER THAN CRITICAL WINDS.

   ...SRN HIGH PLAINS...
INCREASING WLY MID LEVEL FLOW OVER THE SRN ROCKIES AHEAD OF THE
GREAT BASIN UPPER TROUGH WILL STRENGTHEN THE LEE TROUGH OVER THE
HIGH PLAINS OF ERN NM. THE RESULTANT INCREASE IN PRESSURE GRADIENT
BETWEEN THE LEE TROUGH AND HIGH PRESSURE OVER ERN TX WILL AID IN
SUSTAINED SELY WINDS FROM 15-25 MPH. DESPITE WARMING TEMPERATURES
INTO THE 60S/LOWER 70S...MIN RH READINGS AROUND 20 PERCENT WILL
PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
