   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0405 AM CDT WED JUL 19 2006

   VALID 191200Z - 201200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SD/NEB/WRN AND CNTRL KS/NW OK/NE
   TX PANHANDLE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN CENTERED ACROSS THE CNTRL/SRN PLAINS WITH
CONTINUED ABOVE NORMAL TEMPS. A SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING ACROSS THE
NRN ROCKIES EARLY THIS MORNING WILL HELP DRIVE A SFC COLD FRONT SWD
ACROSS THE PLAINS TODAY. AHEAD OF THE FRONT...STRONG S/SW WINDS
COMBINED WITH NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES ACROSS NEB/KS WILL
CONTRIBUTE TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. IN THE
WEST...SCATTERED TSTMS WILL CONTINUE TO POSE A THREAT FOR ISOLD DRY
LIGHTNING STRIKES AS WELL AS GUSTY WINDS. MOST OF THE STORMS ACROSS
AZ/NM WILL CONTAIN WETTING RAIN...GIVEN HIGH PW VALUES BUT STORMS
ACROSS SRN ID THROUGH THE GREAT BASIN/SIERRA AND SRN CA WILL POSE A
   THREAT FOR DRY LIGHTNING.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SD/NEB/WRN AND CNTRL KS/NW OK/NE TX
   PANHANDLE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SFC WINDS 15-25 MPH/EXTREME HEAT/LOW
   RH VALUES/LONG TERM DROUGHT

SFC LOW IS FORECAST TO MOVE EWD ALONG SD/NEB BORDER THIS AFTN...WITH
SFC WINDS SHIFTING FROM S/SW TO NORTH BEHIND THE FRONT. HIGH TEMPS
WILL BE COOLER ACROSS SD TODAY IN THE 80S/90S BUT MODERATELY STRONG
POST-FRONTAL WINDS WILL INCREASE RISK GIVEN NUMEROUS WILDFIRES ARE
ONGOING. SOUTH OF THE FRONT ACROSS NEB/KS INTO NW OK...HIGH TEMPS
WILL INCREASE TO AROUND 100-105 DEGREES...WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE MID
40S TO MID 50S. MINIMUM RH VALUES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL BELOW 15
PERCENT ACROSS WRN PORTIONS OF KS/NEB WITH SLIGHTLY HIGHER VALUES
FARTHER EAST. VERY STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP AHEAD OF THE FRONT
RANGING FROM 20-25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS POSSIBLE. RECENT FIRE
DANGER CLASS OBS INDICATE HIGH TO EXTREME VALUES COMBINED WITH
   EXTREME LONG TERM DROUGHT CONDITIONS.

THERE IS A THREAT OF TSTMS THIS AFTN MAINLY INVOF THE FRONT ACROSS
CNTRL NEB AND POSSIBLY ALONG A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH WHICH WILL EXTEND
FROM ERN NEB INTO CNTRL KS. ANY STORMS THAT FORM WILL BE HIGH
BASED...AND LIKELY CONTAIN VERY STRONG GUSTS AND ISOLD DRY
   LIGHTNING.

...SRN CA/SIERRA THROUGH THE GREAT BASIN/SRN ID...
SCATTERED TSTMS WILL FORM TODAY WITH INVERTED-V THERMODYNAMIC
PROFILES SUPPORTING STRONG/SVR WIND GUSTS AND ISOLD DRY LIGHTNING.
LOCALLY CRITICAL CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE NEAR ONGOING FIRES.

...SRN AND WRN OK...CENTRAL AND NRN TX...
EXTREME HEAT WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE REGION WITH HIGHS RANGING FROM
100-108. ALTHOUGH SFC WINDS WILL BE RELATIVELY WEAK...ONGOING LONG
TERM DROUGHT SUGGESTS ENHANCED THREAT OF FIRES EVEN IN THESE AREAS.
MINIMUM RH VALUES WILL GENERALLY BE AT OR BELOW 20 PERCENT ACROSS
THE OK/TX PANHANDLES THROUGH WRN OK AND PORTIONS OF NCNTRL TX.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0458 AM CDT WED JUL 19 2006

   VALID 201200Z - 211200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL BEGIN TO BUILD ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ON
THURSDAY...IN THE WAKE OF SHORTWAVE TROUGH WHICH WILL AMPLIFY AS IT
MOVES INTO THE NRN PLAINS. MODERATE TO STRONG MID LEVEL FLOW WILL
PERSIST FROM THE NRN ROCKIES THROUGH THE GREAT LAKES WITH VERY HOT
TEMPS /FROM 100-109 DEGREES/ ACROSS THE SRN/CNTRL PLAINS. SFC FRONT
WILL MOVE SWD FROM CNTRL NEB INTO KS/MO BY EVENING. MAIN FIRE
WEATHER THREAT APPEARS TO BE ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS...WHERE
INCREASING PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL RESULT IN STRENGTHENING WINDS.
SCATTERED TSTMS WILL CONTINUE FROM THE NRN ROCKIES THROUGH THE
   SOUTHWEST/SIERRA.

   ...ERN MT/NERN WY/WRN AND CNTRL SD/CNTRL NEB...
SFC WINDS WILL INCREASE AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS ACROSS ERN WY.
ALTHOUGH SHOWERS/TSTMS ARE POSSIBLE IN THE AFTN AND EVENING...THE
AIRMASS WILL LIKELY REMAIN CAPPED ACROSS CNTRL SD/NEB DURING THE
DAY...ALLOWING TEMPS TO CLIMB INTO THE 90S WITH MINIMUM RH VALUES
BELOW 25 PERCENT. WHEN STORMS INITIALLY DO FORM ACROSS ERN MT/NERN
WY...THEY WILL LIKELY BECOME SEVERE QUICKLY WITH STRONG GUSTY WINDS
AND LIGHTNING WHICH MAY DISRUPT FIREFIGHTING EFFORTS. ALTHOUGH MOST
STORMS WILL CONTAIN WETTING RAINS...ALL LIGHTNING WILL POSE A THREAT
FOR ADDITIONAL FIRE STARTS GIVEN VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER
   CLASS VALUES.
