   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0418 AM CDT MON JUL 31 2006

   VALID 311200Z - 011200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF ERN MT/NERN WY/WRN
   SD/SWRN ND...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF WRN KS/WRN OK/NWRN AND
   N-CNTRL TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
STRONG SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO LIFT ENEWD ACROSS S-CNTRL
CANADA TODAY...AS ANOTHER TROUGH DEVELOPS INTO THE GREAT BASIN
REGION TONIGHT. SURFACE LOW PRESSURE WILL REMAIN CENTERED ACROSS ERN
CO AS A COLD FRONT PUSHES SEWD ACROSS THE NRN PLAINS. GUSTY NWLY
WINDS AND DRIER AIR WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE IN BEHIND THE FRONT.
FURTHER S...STRONG SLY WINDS WILL CONTINUE AHEAD OF THE FRONT ACROSS
MUCH OF THE CNTRL INTO THE SRN PLAINS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF ERN MT/NERN WY/WRN
   SD/SWRN ND...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS / LOW RH / SEVERE DROUGHT

NW WINDS GUSTING UP TO AROUND 40 MPH ARE OCCURRING THIS MORNING
ACROSS PORTIONS OF ERN MT INTO NERN WY. THESE WINDS WILL SPREAD
E/SEWD BEHIND A COLD FRONT. WINDS WILL REMAIN STRONG THROUGH MUCH OF
THE MORNING HOURS...BEFORE GRADUALLY DIMINISHING DURING THE
AFTERNOON AS THE SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT WEAKENS. THE GUSTY WINDS
SUPPORTED POOR RH RECOVERY THIS MORNING WITH DEW POINTS HAVING
   FALLEN INTO THE 20S AND 30S. CRITICALLY LOW RH /BELOW 20 PERCENT/
SHOULD OCCUR LATER THIS MORNING ACROSS ERN MT/NERN WY AS
TEMPERATURES WARM INTO THE 70S TO LOWER 80S. THE DRIER AIR WILL WORK
ITS WAY E/SE INTO PORTIONS OF THE WRN DAKOTAS BY EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON...WITH CRITICAL CONDITIONS DEVELOPING AT THAT TIME.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF WRN KS/WRN OK/NWRN AND
   N-CNTRL TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / SEVERE DROUGHT / HOT TEMPERATURES

STRONG SLY WINDS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE CNTRL/SRN
PLAINS TODAY. SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 25 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS AROUND 40
MPH SHOULD OCCUR AS A STRONG SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT AND LOW-LEVEL
JET REMAIN ACROSS THE AREA. TEMPERATURES WILL BE HOT...WITH READINGS
INTO THE UPPER 90S TO AROUND 105. DEW POINTS ARE RELATIVELY DRY ATTM
IN THE 50S TO LOWER 60S. ALTHOUGH DAYTIME MIXING WILL TRY TO LOWER
DEW POINTS...LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE ADVECTION WILL TEND TO NEGATE
SIGNIFICANT LOWERING. THUS...RH VALUES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ONLY
MARGINALLY LOW FROM 20 TO 25 PERCENT. HOWEVER...LONG-TERM DROUGHT
AND THE LACK OF SUBSTANTIAL RAINFALL RECENTLY OVER MUCH OF THE AREA
SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR A CRITICAL THREAT GIVEN THE STRENGTH OF THE
   WINDS.

...ANTELOPE VALLEY OF CA NEWD ACROSS SRN NV/SWRN UT...
SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE AS AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH APPROACHES THE
GREAT BASIN. THE TIMING OF THE TROUGH WILL NOT BE OPTIMAL FOR
CRITICAL CONDITIONS TO DEVELOP...AS THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL LIKELY
OCCUR THIS EVENING INTO THE OVERNIGHT. IN ADDITION...RH VALUES
SHOULD ONLY BE MARGINALLY LOW LATE THIS AFTERNOON /FROM 15 TO 20
PERCENT/ WITH LINGERING MONSOONAL MOISTURE IN THE AREA. GUSTY WINDS
UP TO 30 MPH DURING THE NIGHTTIME HOURS SHOULD SUPPORT POOR RH
   RECOVERY.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0511 AM CDT MON JUL 31 2006

   VALID 011200Z - 021200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO DOMINATE MUCH OF THE SERN
CONUS. A SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL LIFT NEWD FROM THE GREAT BASIN AND
SHOULD WEAKEN AS IT MOVES ACROSS THE NRN ROCKIES INTO THE NRN
PLAINS. A COLD FRONT WILL DROP SLOWLY SWD FROM THE NRN INTO THE
CNTRL PLAINS. MODERATELY STRONG SLY WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO THE S OF
   THE FRONT.

...PORTIONS OF WRN KS/WRN OK INTO NW AND N-CNTRL TX...
A SIMILAR SYNOPTIC SETUP TO MONDAY IS EXPECTED...AS SLY WINDS
CONTINUE AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT. HOWEVER...WINDS SHOULD BE SLIGHTLY
LESS..WITH A WEAKER SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT AND LOW-LEVEL JET.
SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH SHOULD STILL BE COMMON WITH GUSTS
TO AROUND 35 MPH. MODEL GUIDANCE IS ALSO VARIED IN THE AMOUNT OF
LOW-LEVEL MOISTENING THAT MAY OCCUR. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY SERVE TO
INCREASE RELATIVE HUMIDITY SOMEWHAT ABOVE THE ALREADY MARGINAL
VALUES EXPECTED ON MONDAY. PORTIONS OF THIS AREA MAY BE UPGRADED IN
THE DAY 1 OUTLOOK IF IT APPEARS THE RH WILL REMAIN AT LEAST
MARGINALLY LOW FROM 20 TO 25 PERCENT.

   ...SWRN WY/NWRN CO...
THE PASSAGE OF A WEAK SHORTWAVE COULD BRING A BRIEF PERIOD OF
CRITICAL CONDITIONS WITH GUSTY WINDS TUESDAY AFTERNOON. HOWEVER...RH
VALUES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ONLY MARGINALLY LOW AND THUS A CRITICAL
AREA WILL NOT BE ISSUED ATTM. WIND SPEEDS ARE EXPECTED TO GUST TO
   AROUND 25 TO 30 MPH...AS A BAND OF ENHANCED MID-LEVEL FLOW MOVES
ACROSS THE AREA DURING PEAK HEATING. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO
REACH THE MID 70S TO MID 80S. WITH DEW POINTS DROPPING INTO THE MID
30S TO MID 40S...MIN RH VALUES SHOULD RANGE FROM 15 TO 20 PERCENT.
