   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0434 AM CDT FRI AUG 11 2006

   VALID 111200Z - 121200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF THE NRN ROCKIES/NRN
   HIGH PLAINS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD THROUGH THE ROCKIES INTO THE NRN
PLAINS TODAY. IN ASSOCIATION WITH THIS SYSTEM...MODERATE WNW WINDS
WILL DEVELOP OVER MUCH OF MT/WY. COMBINED WITH ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES/LOW RH READINGS...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT WILL
DEVELOP OVER THIS REGION. ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE WEST...ANOTHER UPPER
TROUGH WILL BEGIN TO DIG SWD THROUGH THE PAC NW. VERY DRY AIR WILL
REMAIN OVER MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN/CA IN THE WAKE OF THE FIRST
UPPER TROUGH AND NORTH OF MONSOONAL MOISTURE OVER AZ/NM. GENERALLY
LIGHT WINDS OVER THIS AREA WILL PRECLUDE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS. ACROSS THE REST OF THE NATION...A BROAD UPPER RIDGE WILL
REMAIN CENTERED OVER THE SRN PLAINS. VERY WARM TEMPERATURES AND LOW
RH READINGS WILL PRODUCE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ACROSS PORTIONS OF CENTRAL/NRN TX AND FAR SRN OK.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MOST OF WY AND CENTRAL/ERN MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED W-NWLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS
UP TO 30 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15PERCENT

AHEAD OF AN UPPER TROUGH MOVING THROUGH THE NRN ROCKIES...A SFC LEE
TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD INTO ERN MT/WY BY AFTERNOON. BEHIND THIS
TROUGH...STEEP LAPSE RATES ALONG WITH MODERATE MID LEVEL WIND FIELDS
WILL SUPPORT WLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH OVER MOST OF WRN/CENTRAL WY
AND ERN MT. OVER CENTRAL MT...A COLD FRONT WILL AID IN A WIND SHIFT
TO A NWLY DIRECTION WITH SUSTAINED WINDS SPEEDS REMAINING ABOVE 20
MPH. LOW LEVEL COOLING WILL LAG THE FRONT ENOUGH THAT CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE ANTICIPATED CENTRAL MT. VERY WARM
TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S/LOWER 90S WILL COMBINE WITH DEWPTS IN THE
20S AND 30S WILL PRODUCE MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT.
ISOLATED DRY TSTMS WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE OVER CENTRAL/ERN WY DURING
THE AFTERNOON HRS WHERE DEEP MIXING WILL COMBINED WITH MID LEVEL
   FORCING/MOISTURE.

...NRN/CENTRAL TX AND FAR SRN OK...
SOUTH OF AN OUTFLOW BOUNDARY AND NORTH OF THE HIGHER MOISTURE NEAR
THE GULF COAST...AN AXIS OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND LOW RH READINGS
FROM 20-25 PERCENT WILL EXIST AGAIN TODAY. SFC WINDS SOUTH OF THE
FRONT ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 10-15 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 20
MPH...SLIGHTLY WEAKER THAN YESTERDAY DUE TO A WEAKER PRESSURE
GRADIENT. WITH THE WEAKER WINDS...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE NOT ANTICIPATED DESPITE THE PROLONGED DROUGHT/LOW RH READINGS
ACROSS THE REGION. IN ADDITION...SCT TSTMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP
ALONG THE BOUNDARY ACROSS SRN OK DURING THE AFTERNOON. AS THESE
STORMS WEAKEN OVERNIGHT AND MOVE SWD ACROSS NRN TX...ISOLATED DRY
   LIGHTNING STRIKES WILL BE POSSIBLE.

   ...NRN GREAT BASIN...
TO THE SOUTH OF A COLD FRONT WHICH WILL BE SITUATED ACROSS ERN ORE
AND CENTRAL ID DURING THE AFTERNOON...WLY WINDS WILL AVERAGE FROM
15-20 MPH AS ANOTHER STRONG UPPER TROUGH APPROACHES THE REGION. VERY
LOW RH READINGS FROM 5-10 PERCENT WILL BE COMMONPLACE OVER THE AREA
WITH DWPTS IN THE TEENS. LACK OF STRONGER SFC WINDS WILL PRECLUDE A
   CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0436 AM CDT FRI AUG 11 2006

   VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A PORTION OF THE CENTRAL
   ROCKIES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A SEASONABLY STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD ACROSS THE NRN
ROCKIES TOMORROW. A COLD FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER TROUGH WILL
MOVE SWD THROUGH THE NRN PLAINS/NRN ROCKIES. SOUTH OF THE FRONT AND
WHERE THE MID LEVEL WIND FIELDS WILL BE THE STRONGEST...MODERATE WLY
SFC WINDS WILL EXIST OVER PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL ROCKIES. COMBINED
WITH VERY LOW RH READINGS...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT WILL
EXIST IN THIS AREA. ELSEWHERE...A FLAT UPPER RIDGE EXTENDING FROM
THE WEST COAST ACROSS THE SRN PLAINS WILL LEAD TO ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES IN MUCH OF THIS REGION. HOWEVER A FRONTAL BOUNDARY
EXTENDING FROM NRN TX/OK EWD ACROSS THE SERN STATES WILL PROVIDE A
FOCUS FOR SCT TSTMS. MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL REMAIN IN PLACE OVER
AZ/NM LEADING TO ANOTHER DAY OF TSTMS IN THIS REGION.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - A PORTION OF CENTRAL/WRN WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH...RH READINGS
   FROM 10-15 PERCENT

ALONG THE BASE OF A STRONG UPPER TROUGH AND SOUTH OF A COLD FRONT
WHICH IS ANTICIPATED TO EXTEND E-W ACROSS NRN WY...MODERATE /20-25
MPH/ WLY SFC WINDS WILL DEVELOP. LOW RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT
WILL LEAD TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. CRITICAL CONDITIONS
ARE ANTICIPATED TO END ABRUPTLY BY LATE EVENING AS THE COLD FRONT
   MOVES SWD THROUGH THE AREA.

...ERN WY AND THE NRN HIGH PLAINS...
NORTH OF A COLD FRONT AND EAST OF AN AREA OF SFC LOW PRESSURE OVER
CENTRAL WY...COOLER/MORE MOIST CONDITIONS SHOULD OCCUR. WITH
TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S AND DEWPTS IN THE 40S...MIN RH READINGS ARE
EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 15-25 PERCENT. DESPITE HIGHER RH
READINGS...HIGH FIRE DANGER WILL STILL EXIST AS NLY WINDS NORTH OF
THE FRONT WILL AVERAGE FROM 15-20 MPH. STRONG FORCING ASSOCIATED
WITH THE UPPER TROUGH AND RELATIVELY LOW RH READINGS MAY SUPPORT A
FEW DRY TSTMS OVER ERN WY DURING THE AFTERNOON.
