   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0247 AM CDT TUE SEP 12 2006

   VALID 131200Z - 141200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MUCH OF ID/WESTERN MT/NORTHWEST
   WY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
PRIMARY FEATURE OF NOTE WILL BE PRONOUNCED UPPER TROUGH DEVELOPING
ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ON WEDNESDAY. ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT
WILL PROGRESS EASTWARD ACROSS THE NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN WEST AS LOW
PRESSURE DEVELOPS INTO THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS. GUSTY WINDS IN
ASSOCIATION WITH THE FRONT/STRONG JET STREAK WILL LEAD TO A
HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER ACROSS THE NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN WEST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MUCH OF ID/WESTERN MT/NORTHWEST
   WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS AND COLD FRONT

WESTERLY WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE ACROSS MUCH OF ID/WESTERN
MT/NORTHWEST WY DURING THE DAY AS THE COLD FRONT PROGRESSES
EASTWARD. WIND SPEEDS ARE LIKELY TO REACH 15-25 MPH /WITH HIGHER
GUSTS/...ESPECIALLY OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THE INCREASED WIND
SPEEDS/MODEST RH VALUES APPEARS TO BE AT LEAST MARGINALLY SUPPORTIVE
OF A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER RISK...ALTHOUGH RH VALUES WILL BE
PROGRESSIVELY MARGINAL NORTHWARD ACROSS ID/MT VIA CLOUD COVER.

...SOUTHERN ORE/FAR NORTHERN NV/FAR NORTHEAST CA...
SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE COLD FRONT APPEARS LIKELY TO SLOWLY MOVE
ACROSS SOUTHERN ORE/FAR NORTHERN NV/FAR NORTHEAST CA ON WEDNESDAY.
WARM/DRY CONDITIONS WILL BE PREVALENT AHEAD OF THE FRONT...WITH A
MODEST WIND SHIFT ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRONT. COMPARATIVELY LIGHTER
WIND SPEEDS WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL RISK AT THIS JUNCTURE. THE MORE
PRONOUNCED FIRE WEATHER THREAT APPEARS LIKELY INTO THE DAY 3 PERIOD
   ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN.
