   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0408 AM CDT WED SEP 13 2006

   VALID 131200Z - 141200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A LARGE PORTION OF THE NRN ROCKIES
   AND THE NRN HIGH PLAINS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A VIGOROUS UPPER SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE PAC NW THROUGH TONIGHT.
AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM...AN AREA OF SFC LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN OVER
THE NRN HIGH PLAINS. BOTH OF THESE FEATURES WILL LEAD TO A BROAD
AREA OF MODERATE WSW WINDS OVER MUCH OF THE NRN ROCKIES/NRN PLAINS.
COMBINED WITH LOW RH READINGS...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE
ANTICIPATED OVER THIS REGION. ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE NATION...A BROAD
AREA OF SFC HIGH PRESSURE WILL PROGRESS ACROSS THE PLAINS...
SUPPORTING DRY CONDITIONS AND LIGHT WINDS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MUCH OF ID/MT/WY AND PORTIONS OF WRN
   ND/SD...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WSWLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS
OVER 35 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT

AHEAD OF A STRONG UPPER TROUGH...AN AREA OF SFC LOW PRESSURE WILL
DEEPEN OVER CENTRAL/ERN MT TODAY/TONIGHT. ALONG WITH INCREASING MID
LEVEL WIND FIELDS...WSWLY SFC WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER
35 MPH WILL DEVELOP AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT WILL BE LOCATED FROM
NWRN MT INTO ECENTRAL ORE BY THE LATE AFTERNOON HRS. BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT SIMILAR WIND SPEEDS WILL BE FOUND...BUT WITH COOLER
TEMPERATURES...MIN RH READINGS WILL AVERAGE FROM 20-30 PERCENT.
AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT WILL
DEVELOP DURING THE AFTERNOON LEADING TO A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
THREAT. OVER WRN SD/ND AND FAR ERN MT WINDS WILL BE SLY FROM 20-30
MPH ALONG WITH SIMILARLY LOW RH READINGS.

...SERN ORE/NRN NV AND ERN WA...
BEHIND THE COLD FRONT...SUSTAINED WNWLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH
GUSTS OVER 30 MPH WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON OVER ERN ORE/WA AND NRN
ID. COOLER TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S/LOWER 80S WILL SUPPORT MIN
RH READINGS FROM 20-30 PERCENT OVER MOST OF THIS AREA. FURTHER SOUTH
OVER NRN NV...SLIGHTLY WEAKER WIND SPEEDS FROM 15-20 MPH WILL
PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT ALTHOUGH RH READINGS WILL BE
   NEAR 10 PERCENT.

   ..CENTRAL/ERN TX...
NLY WINDS FROM 10-15 MPH WILL ACCOMPANY DRIER AIR THAT WILL FILTER
SWD INTO THE REGION TODAY IN WAKE OF A COLD FRONT. MIN RH READINGS
FROM 25-30 PERCENT ARE EXPECTED AS TEMPERATURES REMAIN NEAR SEASONAL
NORMS /UPPER 80S/ WHILE DEWPTS FALL INTO THE 50S.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0554 AM CDT WED SEP 13 2006

   VALID 141200Z - 151200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A LARGE PORTION OF THE
   INTERMOUNTAIN WEST...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A DEEPENING UPPER TROUGH AN AREA OF SFC LOW PRESSURE OVER THE
NRN/CENTRAL ROCKIES REGION WILL LEAD TO ANOTHER CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER EVENT FROM THE GREAT BASIN NEWD INTO THE CENTRAL ROCKIES.
FURTHER EAST...A DEEPENING PRESSURE GRADIENT /DUE TO A STRENGTHENING
LEE TROUGH/ WILL SUPPORT SLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH OVER MUCH OF THE
CENTRAL PLAINS. THESE WINDS ALONG WITH LOW RH READINGS WILL ALSO
SUPPORT NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS IN THIS REGION. LOW RH
READINGS WILL ALSO BE LIKELY OVER PORTIONS OF THE SRN PLAINS...BUT
WEAKER WINDS IN THIS AREA WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL THREAT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF ERN CA NEWD INTO WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS
UP TO 35 MPH...MIN RH READINGS AROUND 15 PERCENT...COLD FRONTAL
   PASSAGE

AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT IS ANTICIPATED TO EXTEND FROM NRN NV INTO
FAR SERN MT BY THE AFTERNOON...AN AXIS OF MODERATE WINDS IS FORECAST
TO EXTEND FROM ERN CA THROUGH MOST OF THE GREAT BASIN AND INTO ERN
WY. THE COMBINATION OF MODERATE PRESSURE FALLS ASSOCIATED WITH A SFC
LOW PRESSURE CENTERED OVER NERN WY AND MODERATE MID LEVEL WIND
FIELDS WILL SUPPORT SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO
35 MPH. ALONG WITH THE FORECAST WIND SPEEDS...MILD TEMPERATURES IN
THE 70S/80S ALONG WITH LOW DEWPTS IN THE 20S/30S WILL SUPPORT MIN RH
READINGS AROUND 15 PERCENT. WITH THE PASSAGE OF A COLD FRONT...WINDS
WILL SHIFT TO A NWLY DIRECTION WITH A FEW HR PERIOD OF MODERATE
WINDS. HOWEVER MIN RH READINGS WILL IMPROVE DRAMATICALLY OVERNIGHT
ACROSS AREAS NORTH OF THE FRONT. IN ADDITION TO THE WIND/RH
THREAT...ISOLATED/SCT DRY TSTMS WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER PORTIONS OF
NRN UT/SRN WY DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON/OVERNIGHT AS MONSOON
MOISTURE ADVECTS NWD FROM THE DESERT SW AND INTERACTS WITH THE
   STRONG UPPER SYSTEM/FRONT.

   ...CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS...
SLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WILL BE COMMON DURING THE LATE
MORNING/AFTERNOON HRS OVER MUCH OF ERN CO...CENTRAL/WRN SD...WRN NEB
AND WRN KS. LACK OF SUBSTANTIAL MOISTURE RETURN WILL LIMIT DEWPTS TO
THE 40S...WHILE TEMPERATURES WARM INTO THE 80S/LOWER 90S. THIS WILL
SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS FROM 15-20 PERCENT. IF LATER INDICATIONS
SUGGEST LOWER DEWPTS AND/OR HIGHER TEMPERATURES THEN A PORTION OF
THIS AREA MAY NEED TO BE UPGRADED TO CRITICAL.

   ...NRN/CENTRAL TX...
SLY WINDS WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE OVER NRN/CENTRAL TX LATE IN THE DAY
AS PRESSURE FALLS COMMENCE IN THE SRN PLAINS. LOW DEWPTS ARE STILL
EXPECTED /50S/ AND COMBINED WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR 90...MIN RH
READINGS AROUND 25 PERCENT WILL OCCUR. A LACK OF STRONGER WINDS WILL
LIMIT ANY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
