   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0334 AM CDT SAT OCT 28 2006

   VALID 281200Z - 291200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER THE WRN STATES WITH HIGH PRESSURE AT
THE SURFACE. SURFACE HIGH WILL CAUSE GUSTY WINDS ACROSS SRN CA BUT
WEAKENING WILL OCCUR AS PRESSURE GRADIENTS RELAX LATER
TODAY/TONIGHT. STRONG WLY/NWLY FLOW AROUND THE UPPER RIDGE WILL
PRODUCE WINDY AND DRY CONDITIONS FROM MT INTO WRN SD/NEB. TO THE
EAST...UPPER TROUGH ACROSS THE OH VALLEY WILL MERGE WITH ANOTHER
TROUGH MOVING SEWD ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES...AND WILL SWING INTO THE
NERN STATES WITH VERY STRONG WINDS...COOL TEMPERATURES AND RAIN.
BEHIND THIS TROUGH TO THE SOUTH...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD ACROSS
THE GULF COAST STATES...BUT FIRE THREAT WILL BE RELATIVELY LOW GIVEN
   RECENT RAIN.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: ENDING SANTA ANA WINDS / VERY LOW RH

GUSTY SANTA ANA WINDS WILL PERSIST MAINLY EARLY IN THE PERIOD...WITH
SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 15-25 MPH AND GUSTS OF 30-40 MPH THROUGH
FAVORABLE PASSES AND CANYONS. RH LEVELS WILL REMAIN VERY LOW INTO
THE SINGLE DIGITS...PRODUCING DANGEROUS FIRE CONDITIONS. LATER IN
THE EVENING/OVERNIGHT HOURS...PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL RELAX WITH
INCREASED ONSHORE FLOW INTO SUNDAY MORNING. THIS WILL INCREASE RH
   LEVELS AND DECREASE FIRE THREAT.

   ...MT INTO WRN SD/NEB...
A GENERAL NWLY FLOW REGIME WILL PERSIST TODAY PRODUCING LOCALLY
WINDY/GUSTY CONDITIONS ALONG WITH LOW RH. ALTHOUGH THE DAY WILL
BEGIN QUITE COOL...WLY DOWNSLOPE FLOW AND SOME HEATING WILL ALLOW
TEMPERATURES TO RISE INTO THE MID/UPPER 60S. RH WILL CORRESPONDINGLY
FALL TO NEAR 20-25 PERCENT. THE WINDIEST CONDITIONS WILL BE OVER
MT...WHERE SPEEDS OF 20-30 MPH WILL BE COMMON. FARTHER SE INTO WRN
SD/NEB...SPEEDS OF 15-20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL OCCUR.

   ...SERN U.S...
A DRIER AIR MASS WILL SPREAD INTO THE REGION BEHIND A COLD FRONT
THAT WILL QUICKLY MOVE OFFSHORE. NWLY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH WILL OCCUR
WITH RH LOWERING TO 35-40 PERCENT. AREAS SUCH AS SRN GA INTO FL
REMAIN IN DROUGHT CONDITIONS...HOWEVER...RECENT RAINFALL WILL HELP
MITIGATE FIRE THREAT TODAY WHILE RH LEVELS REMAIN MARGINAL.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0336 AM CDT SAT OCT 28 2006

   VALID 291200Z - 301200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL BREAK DOWN OVER THE WRN U.S. ALLOWING COOLER
TEMPERATURES TO PREVAIL. LOW RH WILL REMAIN OVER THE SRN CA DESERTS
BUT NOT AS LOW AS PREVIOUS DAY AS ONSHORE FLOW INCREASES.
MEANWHILE...UPPER RIDGE AXIS WILL SHIFT INTO THE CENTRAL U.S. WHERE
IT WILL BE WINDY AND WARM AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER ERN MT AND
SWD ALONG THE FRONT RANGE INTO ERN NM. RH WILL BE LOW IN THESE AREAS
AS WELL...AND ALSO ACROSS THE ERN STATES UNDER A SURFACE HIGH. NEAR
CRITICAL CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR OVER SC/GA/FL DUE TO VERY LOW RH.

   ...SC...GA...NRN FL...
NEAR CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS WILL EXIST BASED ON LONG DURATIONS OF
VERY LOW RH VALUES AS A RESULT OF HIGH PRESSURE. MIN VALUES WILL DIP
INTO THE 20-30 PERCENT RANGE DURING THE AFTERNOON BUT WITH LIGHT
   WINDS.

   ...OK/NRN AND WRN TX...ERN NM...
SLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO NEAR 15-20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS AS A LOW
PRESSURE TROUGH DEVELOPS OVER THE HIGH PLAINS OF ERN CO/NM. DUE TO
RECENT HIGH PRESSURE PASSAGE...RH WILL BE LOW FROM 15 PERCENT W
TX/ERN NM TO THE TWENTIES KS OK AND CENTRAL TX.
