   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0404 AM CST WED DEC 27 2006

   VALID 271200Z - 281200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT INITIALLY ALONG THE WEST
COAST WILL PROGRESS SOUTHEASTWARD THROUGH THE SOUTHWEST STATES
THROUGH TONIGHT. AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM...SURFACE CYCLOGENESIS WILL
BEGIN ACROSS THE CENTRAL/SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS...WITH AN INCREASING
PRESSURE GRADIENT DEVELOPING ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. SURFACE
HIGH PRESSURE WILL BE PREVALENT ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC/SOUTHEAST
   STATES.

   ...SOUTHERN CA...
AS UPPER TROUGH SHIFTS EASTWARD...FLOW TRAJECTORIES WILL BEGIN TO
TREND OFFSHORE TONIGHT IN THE COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA. GIVEN
THE STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT AND UPPER SUPPORT/COLD
ADVECTION...RATHER STRONG DOWNSLOPE WINDS ARE ANTICIPATED LATE
TONIGHT/EARLY THURSDAY MORNING...LIKELY IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH BELOW
FAVORED CANYONS AND PASSES. IN SPITE OF THE SIGNIFICANT WIND
POTENTIAL...MARGINAL OFFSHORE COMPONENT/HIGH RH VALUES AND THE
POSSIBILITY OF RAINFALL THROUGH THE FIRST PART OF TODAY WILL
PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER RISK.

   ...SOUTHERN PLAINS...
WHILE CRITICAL CONDITIONS ARE NOT ANTICIPATED...AN INCREASING
SOUTHERLY GRADIENT WILL FAVOR MILD TEMPERATURES AND LOCALLY BREEZY
CONDITIONS ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON. AFTERNOON
TEMPERATURES WILL GENERALLY RANGE FROM THE UPPER 50S TO UPPER 60S
ACROSS MUCH OF OK AND TX. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS MAY REACH 15-20 MPH
   THIS AFTERNOON...WITH SOME HIGHER GUSTS.

   ...SOUTHEAST STATES/NORTHERN FL...
AMIDST HIGH PRESSURE AND A VERY DRY AIRMASS...RH VALUES MAY DROP TO
CRITICAL LEVELS FOR A FEW HOURS THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS NORTHERN FL
AND MUCH OF THE SOUTHEAST STATES. HOWEVER...LIGHT WINDS AND RECENT
RAINFALL SHOULD CONSIDERABLY LIMIT THE FIRE WEATHER POTENTIAL.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0405 AM CST WED DEC 27 2006

   VALID 281200Z - 291200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
POTENT UPPER TROUGH WILL BECOME PROGRESSIVELY CLOSED ON THURSDAY AS
IT CROSSES THE FOUR CORNERS AREA. IN THE WAKE OF THIS
SYSTEM...DEVELOPING GREAT BASIN HIGH PRESSURE WILL FAVOR A
PROGRESSIVELY OFFSHORE COMPONENT WITH GUSTY WINDS ACROSS SOUTHERN
CA. BREEZY CONDITIONS WILL ALSO EXIST ACROSS MUCH OF THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS AMIDST AN INCREASING SOUTHERLY GRADIENT AHEAD OF THE SOUTHERN
   ROCKIES UPPER TROUGH.

   ...SOUTHERN CA...
AIDED BY A PRONOUNCED NORTHERLY JET AND COLD ADVECTION IN WAKE OF
FOUR CORNERS UPPER TROUGH...VERY STRONG WINDS WILL BE ONGOING AT THE
BEGINNING OF THE PERIOD ACROSS SOUTHERN CA THURSDAY MORNING. IN
ADDITION TO THE POTENTIAL FOR WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 50
MPH...PROGRESSIVELY OFFSHORE TRAJECTORIES THURSDAY WILL SIGNAL A
TRANSITION TO LOWER RH VALUES/MILDER TEMPERATURES DURING THE LATTER
PART OF THE WEEK. IN SPITE OF THE STRONG WINDS...IT APPEARS THAT
SUFFICIENTLY HIGH RH VALUES AND DAY 1 RAINFALL WILL PRECLUDE A
CRITICAL RISK FOR THE COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA ON THURSDAY.

   ...SOUTHEAST NM/FAR WEST TX...
IN WAKE OF EASTWARD TRANSITIONING SURFACE LOW/COLD FRONT...GUSTY
SOUTHWEST WINDS ARE ANTICIPATED ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS OF
SOUTHEAST NM/FAR WEST TX ON THURSDAY. ALTHOUGH CLOUD COVER MAY
SOMEWHAT INHIBIT MIXING...SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS WILL LIKELY REACH
   20-25 MPH /WITH HIGHER GUSTS/ THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
