   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0225 AM CST SAT JAN 06 2007

   VALID 061200Z - 071200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL OVER MUCH OF THE SRN AND CNTRL STATES
DUE TO HIGH PRESSURE. THE HIGH WILL BE CENTERED OVER THE GREAT
BASIN...AND WILL PRODUCE STRONG NLY WINDS WITH RELATIVELY COOL
TEMPERATURES AND LOW RH. ALOFT...AN UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE
ACROSS NM/W TX...AND WILL PHASE WITH A LARGER NRN ROCKIES/PLAINS
TROUGH BY SUN MORNING. THIS WILL CAUSE HIGH PRESSURE TO BUILD INTO
THE SRN PLAINS AND A SHIELD OF RAIN TO MATERIALIZE ACROSS THE WRN
   GULF COAST STATES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: OFFSHORE WINDS AND LOW RH

STRONG/GUSTY NELY WINDS WILL BE ONGOING THIS MORNING BUT WILL
LIGHTEN DURING THE DAY ESPECIALLY ALONG THE COAST WITH DECREASING
PRESSURE GRADIENT. LOCALIZED AREAS OF GUSTY WINDS WILL REMAIN MAINLY
IN THE HILLS/CANYONS. A VERY DRY AIR MASS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE WITH
MIN RH VALUES OF 10-15 PERCENT DESPITE RELATIVELY COOL TEMPERATURES
   IN THE 50S AND 60S.

OVERNIGHT...PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL INCREASE AND SO WILL
WINDS...MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. SPEEDS OF 15-25 MPH WILL OCCUR NEAR
THE COAST WITH 30-50 MPH LIKELY IN PASSES/CANYONS WITH POCKETS OF RH
   IN THE TEENS.

   ...LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY REGION...
IT WILL BE RELATIVELY COOL...DRY...AND LOCALLY WINDY TODAY WITH
WEAKENING PRESSURE GRADIENT. MIN RH VALUES IN THE TEENS ARE LIKELY
AS TEMPERATURES RISE INTO THE LOWER 60S...ALONG WITH SUSTAINED WINDS
OF 15-20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO NEAR 30 MPH. COMBINATION OF GUSTY WINDS
AND LOW RH WILL CAUSE INCREASED FIRE DANGER DURING THE AFTERNOON
   HOURS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA EWD INTO LOWER CO RIVER
   VALLEY OF AZ...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
LARGE UPPER TROUGH WILL AMPLIFY ACROSS THE CNTRL U.S...WITH STRONG
HIGH PRESSURE EXTENDING FROM THE GREAT BASIN INTO THE SRN PLAINS.
MEANWHILE...A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL EXIST ALONG THE SRN CA COAST.
THIS WILL PRODUCE STRONG OFFSHORE FLOW ACROSS MUCH OF SRN
CA...INCLUDING THE LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY AREA. FARTHER E...THE
SURGING HIGH PRESSURE WILL PRODUCE GUSTY N WINDS AND LOW RH OVER
MUCH OF CNTRL/NWRN TX WHERE DROUGHT PERSISTS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA EWD INTO LOWER CO RIVER
   VALLEY OF AZ...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG NLY/OFFSHORE FLOW AND LOW RH

STRONG NLY WINDS WILL BE ONGOING SUN MORNING AND WILL PERSIST
THROUGH THE PERIOD. WINDS OVER 50 MPH ARE LIKELY THROUGH PASSES AND
CANYONS OF SRN CA...WITH 15-25 MPH TO THE COASTAL AREAS.
MEANWHILE...NLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH ARE LIKELY THROUGH THE LOWER CO
RIVER VALLEY WITH STRONG N-S PRESSURE GRADIENT IN PLACE. RH VALUES
SHOULD BE IN THE TEENS INLAND WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S AND
   70S.

   ...NWRN/W-CNTRL TX...
EARLY MORNING COLD FRONT PASSAGE WILL BRING IN A DRY AIRMASS ON NLY
WINDS. SPEEDS OF 15-25 MPH WILL BE COMMON WITH HIGHER GUSTS...WHILE
