...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA...

SCENARIO OF GUSTY SANTA ANA WINDS/LOW RH VALUES IS ONGOING ACROSS
THE COASTAL VALLEYS OF SOUTHERN CA THIS MORNING...LEADING TO A
CONTINUANCE OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TO BEGIN THE DAY.
HOWEVER...OWING TO HIGH PRESSURE WEAKENING OVER THE INTERMOUNTAIN
WEST AND THE UPSTREAM PACIFIC NORTHWEST/BRITISH COLUMBIA UPPER
TROUGH...THE OFFSHORE/SANTA ANA EVENT WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH TODAY

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0347 AM CST TUE JAN 09 2007

   VALID 101200Z - 111200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
PRIMARY LARGE SCALE FEATURE OF NOTE WEDNESDAY WILL BE THE UPPER
TROUGH CARVING SOUTHEASTWARD OVER THE WESTERN STATES. ACROSS
SOUTHERN CA...THE CRITICAL SANTA ANA WIND SCENARIO FROM EARLY THIS
WEEK WILL HAVE COME TO END BEFORE DAY 2/WEDNESDAY...WITH COOLER
TEMPERATURES/HIGHER RH VALUES ON WEDNESDAY VIA ENSUING ONSHORE FLOW
ASSOCIATED WITH THE WESTERN STATES TROUGH.

IN THE EAST...ZONAL UPPER FLOW/MODEST UPPER RIDGING WILL BE
PREVALENT ACROSS THE EASTERN HALF OF THE CONUS. SURFACE HIGH
PRESSURE WILL BE DOMINANT ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST/MID ATLANTIC
   STATES...WITH DRY CONDITIONS PREVALENT.

   ...SOUTHERN PLAINS...
INITIAL STAGES OF LEE CYCLOGENESIS AND A SHARPENING LEE TROUGH WILL
LEAD TO AN INCREASING PRESSURE GRADIENT/MILDER TEMPERATURES ACROSS
THE SOUTH CENTRAL PLAINS ON WEDNESDAY. THE STRONGEST SOUTHERLY WINDS
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ARE LIKELY TO MATERIALIZE FROM WEST
CENTRAL/NORTH CENTRAL TX TO EASTERN KS/SOUTHWEST MO...WITH SUSTAINED
WIND SPEEDS REACHING 20-30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS /40 MPH/. THESE
STRONG/GUSTY WINDS AND MILD TEMPERATURES/MODESTLY LOW RH VALUES WILL
LEAD TO A HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER.

   ...FL/SOUTHEAST STATES...
A DRY AIRMASS WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE REGION IN PRESENCE OF EASTWARD
SHIFTING SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE. IN ADDITION TO THE EXPECTATION OF
SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES ON WEDNESDAY...WINDS SPEEDS SHOULD BE
COMPARATIVELY LIGHTER THAN ON TUESDAY /GENERALLY 10 MPH/ GIVEN THE
PROXIMITY OF THE HIGH PRESSURE AND MORE MODEST PRESSURE
GRADIENT/VERTICAL MIXING. THESE FACTORS SHOULD TEND TO TEMPER THE
   CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
