   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0323 AM CST MON JAN 15 2007

   VALID 151200Z - 161200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE AND VERY COLD SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO
BUILD OVER MUCH OF THE WESTERN AND CENTRAL U.S. IN THE UPPER LEVELS
OF THE ATMOSPHERE...A LARGE STORM SYSTEM OVER THE CENTRAL U.S. WILL
CONTINUE TO LIFT OUT TOWARDS THE NORTHEAST AND GRADUALLY WEAKEN
   DURING THE PERIOD.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY STRONG AND GUSTY NORTHEASTERLY WINDS WITH
VERY LOW HUMIDITY AND HIGH FIRE DANGER READINGS

BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE PATTERN ASSOCIATED WITH THE VERY STRONG
SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE INTER-MOUNTAIN WEST...VERY
STRONG AND GUSTY NORTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL PRODUCE A STRONG OFFSHORE
WIND EVENT OVER THE AREA. NORTHEAST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH
GUSTS OVER 40 MPH WILL BE COMMON WITH GUSTS IN AND BELOW THE
MOUNTAIN PASSES OVER 60 MPH. SINCE THE AIRMASS IS VERY COLD
...TEMPERATURES WILL BE ONLY ABLE TO WARM INTO THE 50S AND
60S..HOWEVER THE AIR IS EXTREMELY DRY THE ALREADY LOW HUMIDITIES
WILL CONTINUE TO DROP INTO THE 5 TO 15 PERCENT RANGE THIS AFTERNOON
AND REMAIN LOW THROUGH TUESDAY. THE FIRE DANGER READINGS ACROSS
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REMAIN VERY HIGH TO EXTREME. RECENT FREEZING
TEMPERATURES ACROSS PARTS OF THE AREA MAY HAVE KILLED SOME
VEGETATION...ADDING TO THE ALREADY HIGH FIRE DANGER.
