   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0337 AM CST SAT JAN 20 2007

   VALID 211200Z - 221200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA COASTAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN AMPLIFYING SHORTWAVE TROUGH IS FORECAST TO BE OVER THE CNTRL
INTERMOUNTAIN WEST ON 12Z SUN. THIS TROUGH WILL DIG SWD ACROSS THE
FOUR CORNERS INTO SRN AZ/NM BY 12Z MON. AS THIS OCCURS...UPSTREAM
RIDGING WILL BUILD FROM OFF THE CA COAST NEWD ACROSS THE PACIFIC NW.
AT THE SURFACE...HIGH PRESSURE WILL STRENGTHEN OVER THE GREAT
BASIN...WITH A SURFACE TROUGH MOVING OFFSHORE FROM CA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA COASTAL AREAS...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS / LOW RH / MODERATE DROUGHT

OFFSHORE FLOW WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE LATE SUNDAY MORNING AS A
SURFACE TROUGH MOVES OFF THE CA COAST. HOWEVER...STRONGER GUSTY
WINDS SHOULD HOLD OFF UNTIL AROUND SUNSET. THROUGH THE
DAY...MODERATE TO STRONG MID/UPPER-LEVEL FLOW WILL BECOME
UNIDIRECTIONALLY-ALIGNED FROM THE N...AS THE FOUR CORNERS TROUGH
AMPLIFIES SWD. THIS WILL COMBINE WITH AN INTENSIFYING SURFACE
PRESSURE GRADIENT TO LEAD TO STRONG OFFSHORE WINDS SUNDAY EVENING
THROUGH EARLY MONDAY. SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WILL BE
LIKELY WITH HIGHER GUSTS OVER 45 MPH. RH VALUES WILL
DECREASE...FALLING TO AROUND 15 PERCENT BY EARLY EVENING. VERY
LITTLE OVERNIGHT RH RECOVERY CAN BE EXPECTED GIVEN THE STRENGTH OF
   THE OFFSHORE FLOW.

   ...LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY...
A SURGE OF COOL NLY WINDS IS EXPECTED SUNDAY AFTERNOON COMMENCING
RAPID DRYING FROM THE SRN GREAT BASIN DOWN THE LOWER CO RIVER
VALLEY. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WILL BE LIKELY. THE NLY FLOW
WILL CONTRIBUTE TO WEAK CAA AND TEMPERATURES MAINLY IN THE MID 50S
TO LOWER 60S. ATTM...RH VALUES APPEAR TO BE ONLY MARGINALLY LOW FOR
   A BRIEF PERIOD IN THE LATE AFTERNOON /FROM 15 TO 20 PERCENT/.
