   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0358 AM CST FRI MAR 02 2007

   VALID 021200Z - 031200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A BROAD UPPER TROUGH WILL STRETCH FROM THE ROCKIES TO THE E COAST
WITH LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED OVER THE WRN GREAT LAKES FRI
AFTERNOON. A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL EXTEND SWD ALONG THE ATLANTIC
COAST AND WILL QUICKLY MOVE OFFSHORE. BEHIND THIS FRONT...A DRIER
AIR MASS WILL ARRIVE WITH HIGH PRESSURE EXTENDING WWD ACROSS THE SRN
PLAINS INTO THE GREAT BASIN. AN AMPLIFYING UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH
WILL SINK SWD INTO THE CNTRL ROCKIES LATE IN THE PERIOD...HELPING TO
TIGHTEN PRESSURE GRADIENTS ACROSS THE SRN ROCKIES AND SWRN CONUS.

...SRN PLAINS AND LOWER MS VALLEY...
STRONG LOW TO THE N AND HIGH PRESSURE TO THE SOUTH WILL CREATE A
STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT TO PRODUCE GUSTY NWLY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH
FROM OK INTO AR...WITH SPEEDS OF 20-25 MPH INTO THE SERN MO/WRN KY
AREA. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 60 DEGREES WITH MIN RH DIPPING
INTO THE 15-25 PERCENT RANGE. THIS WILL CREATE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE
CONDITIONS ESPECIALLY IN AREAS THAT RECEIVED LITTLE PRECIPITATION
   RECENTLY.

FOR CNTRL TX INTO SERN NM...IT WILL REMAIN VERY DRY WITH HIGH
PRESSURE IN PLACE. RH LEVELS WILL ONCE AGAIN DROP INTO THE SINGLE
DIGITS AND TEENS. WINDS WILL BE MUCH LIGHTER THOUGH...WITH SPEEDS
OVER CNTRL TX LESS THAN 10 MPH...AND BETWEEN 15-20 MPH OVER FAR W TX
INTO SRN NM WHERE IT WILL BE COOL.

   ...SERN STATES MINUS FL PENINSULA...
IT WILL BE DRY OVER ALL OF THE SERN CONUS TODAY AS WLY WINDS BRING
IN DRIER AIR. SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION FELL THE PREVIOUS DAY OVER
THESE AREAS...THUS FIRE THREAT WILL BE TEMPERED. HOWEVER...MARGINAL
THREAT MAY EXIST GIVEN WLY WINDS OF 10-15 MPH ALONG WITH LOW RH
   LARGELY IN THE 20S.

   ...SRN CA...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL SINK SWD THROUGH THE CNTRL/SRN ROCKIES LATE
TONIGHT...WITH HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE ERN GREAT BASIN.
MEANWHILE...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL BUILD ALONG THE W COAST. THIS WILL
RESULT IN A MODERATELY STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT BY SAT MORNING
PRODUCING OFFSHORE WINDS. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BEGIN LATE
FRIDAY/EARLY SAT. THREAT IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE CRITICAL THIS PERIOD
AS RH LEVELS WILL NOT BE PARTICULARLY LOW.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0434 AM CST FRI MAR 02 2007

   VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CNTRL AND SRN TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A SHORTWAVE TROUGH AXIS WILL DIVE SEWD INTO THE SRN PLAINS WITHIN
BROADER UPPER TROUGH AS LOW SHIFTS NEWD OUT OF GREAT LAKES. A STRONG
AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL EXTEND FROM THE GREAT BASIN INTO THE
PLAINS...SPREADING SEWD ACROSS THE LOWER MS VALLEY AND DEEP SOUTH.
THIS WILL RESULT IN CRITICAL COMBINATION OF WIND AND LOW RH OVER SRN
TX...WITH INCREASING OFFSHORE FLOW/SANTA ANA WINDS OVER SRN CA LATE.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CNTRL AND SRN TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH

A COLD FRONT WILL SURGE SWD THROUGH TX EARLY ON THE DAY SAT...WITH
VERY DRY AIR BEHIND THE FRONT. SOME HEATING WITH HIGHS INTO THE 60S
CNTRL TX TO THE 70S DEEP S TX WILL ALLOW RH TO DROP TO CRITICAL
LEVELS. SUSTAINED NLY WINDS OF 20-25 MPH WILL BE LIKELY WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. THE PRIMARY THREAT WILL BE DURING THE AFTERNOON WHEN
   TEMPERATURES ARE WARMEST.

   ...SRN CA/SRN AZ...
WINDS WILL INCREASE THROUGH THE DAY OVER SRN CA WITH LOCALLY STRONG
WINDS OF 20-30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS THROUGH PASSES/CANYONS. RH WILL
GRADUALLY DROP WELL INTO THE 10-20 PERCENT RANGE WITH TEMPERATURES
IN THE 70S. THIS WILL CREATE LOCALIZED CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS IN
AREAS THAT HAVE RECEIVED RELATIVELY LITTLE PRECIPITATION.

FARTHER E...NLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15-20 MPH FROM THE CO RIVER
VALLEY INTO SRN AZ...WHERE IT WILL BE EXCEPTIONALLY DRY WITH RH IN
THE SINGLE DIGITS. THIS TOO WILL PRODUCE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE
   CONDITIONS WITH DROUGHT PERSISTING.

...GULF COAST STATES AND MID ATLANTIC...
DRY WLY FLOW WILL PERSIST OVER THE SERN CONUS ON SAT AS HIGH
PRESSURE MOVES IN FROM THE W. WIDESPREAD RH VALUES IN THE 20 PERCENT
RANGE WILL BE COMMON...ALONG WITH WINDS OF 10-15 MPH OVER MS/AL/GA.
HIGHER WINDS IN EXCESS OF 20 MPH WILL OCCUR OVER THE CAROLINAS.
OVERALL FIRE THREAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE MITIGATED BY RECENT
   PRECIPITATION EVENT.
