   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0407 AM CDT SUN MAR 11 2007

   VALID 111200Z - 121200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA COASTAL AREA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
MID-LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGH OVER THE SRN ROCKIES WILL EVOLVE INTO A
CLOSED LOW AS IT CUTS OFF FROM THE BELT OF STRONGER WLYS ALONG THE
U.S./CANADIAN BORDER. THIS LOW WILL AID IN THE PRODUCTION OF
NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND TSTMS THROUGH THE PERIOD OVER MOST OF THE SRN
PLAINS. SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN ANCHORED ACROSS THE ERN
GREAT BASIN WITH A VERY WARM AND DRY AIR MASS IN THE SWRN CONUS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA COASTAL AREA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS / VERY LOW RH / MUCH ABOVE
   NORMAL TEMPERATURES

A MODERATE SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT HAS AIDED IN GUSTY OFFSHORE
WINDS IN EXCESS OF 35 MPH EARLY THIS MORNING ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE
SAN GABRIEL AND SANTA ANA MTNS. THIS SHOULD CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT
SEVERAL HOURS...BEFORE THE GRADIENT RELAXES DURING THE AFTERNOON. RH
VALUES OF 10 TO 15 PERCENT WERE ALREADY COMMON IN THE MTN
AREAS...AND CRITICALLY LOW RH WILL EXPAND ACROSS THE ADJACENT
COASTAL AREA BY EARLY AFTERNOON. AS TEMPERATURES WARM TO NEAR-RECORD
LEVELS...IN THE UPPER 70S TO MIDDLE 90S...RH VALUES WILL FALL TO 3
TO 8 PERCENT. WITH LITTLE CHANGE IN THE SYNOPTIC-SCALE
PATTERN...WINDS WILL LIKELY STRENGTHEN ONCE AGAIN ACROSS
CANYONS/PASSES BY LATE EVENING LEADING TO VERY POOR RH RECOVERY
   OVERNIGHT.

   ...WRN/SRN AZ...
WARM TEMPERATURES AND LOW RH WILL CONTINUE FROM THE LOWER CO RIVER
VALLEY TO SERN AZ. AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL MAINLY REACH THE
UPPER 70S TO LOWER 90S WITH MIN RH AROUND 6 TO 12 PERCENT.
HOWEVER...SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS SHOULD BE RATHER MARGINAL /MAINLY
FROM 10 TO 15 MPH/. LOCALLY GUSTY NLY WINDS SHOULD OCCUR DOWNWIND OF
THE MOGOLLON RIM WHERE MID-LEVEL FLOW WILL BE ENHANCED INVOF OF
EVOLVING CLOSED LOW OVER ERN NM.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0413 AM CDT SUN MAR 11 2007

   VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA COASTAL RANGE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
CLOSED UPPER LOW WILL REMAIN QUASI-STATIONARY OVER THE SRN HIGH
PLAINS. NEARLY ZONAL MID-LEVEL FLOW WILL EXIST ACROSS THE NRN CONUS
WHILE AN ALBERTA CLIPPER RACES EWD ACROSS S-CNTRL CANADA. AN
ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL PUSH SEWD INTO THE NRN PLAINS WHILE A LEE
TROUGH DEVELOPS SWD ACROSS THE CNTRL HIGH PLAINS. WITH THE APPROACH
OF THESE FEATURES...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE ERN GREAT BASIN
   WILL WEAKEN THROUGH THE PERIOD.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA COASTAL RANGE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: LONG DURATION OF LOW RH / LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS /
   WARM TEMPERATURES

LOCALLY GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS AROUND 30 MPH WITH VERY POOR RH
RECOVERY WILL LIKELY BE ONGOING EARLY MON MORNING ALONG FAVORED
CANYONS/PASSES OF THE COASTAL MTNS. ALTHOUGH THE WINDS WILL DIMINISH
THROUGH THE DAY...RH VALUES AOB 15 PERCENT SHOULD OCCUR FOR SEVERAL
HOURS WITH NEAR-RECORD WARM TEMPERATURES DURING THE AFTERNOON. THE
SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT IS EXPECTED TO BE MUCH WEAKER MON NIGHT
COMPARED TO DAY 1 AS HIGH PRESSURE WEAKENS OVER THE ERN GREAT BASIN.
AS A RESULT...WEAK TO NEUTRAL OFFSHORE FLOW IS EXPECTED INTO EARLY
TUE MORNING WITH IMPROVED RH RECOVERY.
