   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0349 AM CDT WED APR 11 2007

   VALID 111200Z - 121200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHWEST...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRENGTHENING UPPER TROUGH ALONG THE PACIFIC COAST WILL DIG SEWD
INTO THE SOUTHWESTERN STATES BY THE END OF THE PERIOD. AHEAD OF THIS
TROUGH...BREEZY CONDITIONS COMBINED WITH LOW RH READINGS WILL
SUPPORT A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT OVER MUCH OF THE SOUTHWEST.
DOWNSTREAM OF THIS TROUGH/CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT...ANOTHER
UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD THROUGH THE SERN STATES GENERATING SCT
MODERATE/HVY RAINFALL. LOW RH READINGS AND BREEZY CONDITIONS WILL
DEVELOP IN THE WAKE OF THIS TROUGH ACROSS THE SRN PLAINS...BUT
DECREASING WINDS DURING THE AFTERNOON WILL LIMIT ANY CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER CONCERNS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - FAR SRN NV...FAR SERN CA...MUCH OF
   NRN/CENTRAL AZ AND WRN NM...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS
OVER 30 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT...LONG TERM DROUGHT

AHEAD OF AN AMPLIFYING UPPER TROUGH...LOW-MID LEVEL WIND FIELDS WILL
INCREASE OVER THE AREA TODAY. THE RESULT WILL BE THE DEVELOPMENT OF
MODERATE SWLY SFC WINDS DURING THE AFTERNOON. DRY LOW LEVELS
CHARACTERIZED BY DWPTS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS/TEENS COMBINED WITH
SEASONABLE TEMPERATURES WILL PRODUCE LOW RH READINGS FROM 10-15
PERCENT. THE COMBINATION OF THESE PARAMETERS WILL LEAD TO CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER THREAT. WITH A DRY AIRMASS...TEMPERATURES SHOULD DROP
SUFFICIENTLY THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL END SHORTLY
   AFTER SUNSET.

   ...SRN PLAINS...
IN THE WAKE OF THE SERN CONUS UPPER TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED COLD
FRONT...MODERATE NWLY WINDS WILL OCCUR OVER THE AREA THIS MORNING.
ALTHOUGH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY RESULT...WITH
TEMPERATURES MAINLY IN THE 60S/LOWER 70S...LOW DWPTS IN THE
TEENS/20S WILL SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS FROM 15-20 PERCENT. IN AREAS
THAT HAVE SEEN SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES RECENTLY...DIMINISHING
UPPER SUPPORT AND DECREASING PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL LEAD TO
WEAKENING WINDS DURING THE AFTERNOON. THUS CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
   CONDITIONS ARE NOT EXPECTED.
