   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0415 AM CDT THU APR 12 2007

   VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHWEST/SRN
   ROCKIES...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHEAST...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A PROGRESSIVE UPPER PATTERN WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE NATION THROUGH
TODAY. TWO PRIMARY UPPER SYSTEMS WILL PROGRESS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN
THIS REGIME. THE ERN OF THE TWO SYSTEMS WILL MOVE THROUGH THE GREAT
LAKES AND NEW ENGLAND. IN THE WAKE OF THIS SYSTEM...MILD/DRY AND
BREEZY CONDITIONS WILL SPREAD SWD THROUGH THE SERN STATES PRODUCING
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER AREAS THAT DID NOT SEE
APPRECIABLE RAINFALL DURING THE LAST 24-36 HRS...NAMELY SRN AL/GA
AND NRN FL. MEANWHILE...THE WRN UPPER SYSTEM WILL DIG SEWD INTO THE
SOUTHWEST THROUGH THE PERIOD. AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM...MODERATE TO
STRONG WIND FIELDS COMBINED WITH LOW RH READINGS WILL LEAD TO
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FROM THE SERN CA EWD INTO FAR WRN
   TX.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SERN CA EWD INTO FAR WRN TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WSWLY WINDS FROM 20-30 MPH WITH GUSTS
   OVER 40 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT...ISOLATED DRY
   TSTMS

AHEAD OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH DIGGING SWD THROUGH CA AND IN THE WAKE
OF A LEAD VORT MAX MOVING THROUGH AZ EARLY THIS MORNING...MODERATE
TO STRONG MID LEVEL WIND FIELDS COMBINED WITH STEEP LOW-MID LEVEL
LAPSE RATES WILL PRODUCE A LARGE AREA OF SUSTAINED WINDS GREATER
THAN 20 MPH OVER THE SOUTHWEST. CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
HOWEVER WILL BE CONFINED TO SWRN AZ/SERN CA EWD INTO FAR WRN
TX...WHERE WARMER TEMPERATURES WILL LEAD TO CRITICALLY LOW RH
READINGS LESS THAN 15 PERCENT. AS SFC COLD FRONT/UPPER TROUGH PASS
THROUGH AZ DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS...LIGHT PRECIPITATION AND
HIGHER RH READINGS WILL OCCUR LEADING TO A CESSATION OF CRITICAL
CONDITIONS OVER THIS AREA. HOWEVER FURTHER EAST...GIVEN THE STRENGTH
OF THE UPPER SYSTEM...SFC WINDS WILL NOT LIKELY DIMINISH MUCH
OVERNIGHT IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SRN NM/FAR WRN TX. THUS CRITICAL
CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY TO LAST UNTIL AT LEAST MIDNIGHT IN THESE
   AREAS.

IN ADDITION TO THE WINDS/RH THREAT...STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND
MID LEVEL MOISTURE/LIFT WILL LEAD TO ISOLATED HIGH BASED/DRY TSTMS
OVER PORTIONS OF THE SRN ROCKIES /MAINLY CENTRAL NM EWD INTO WRN
TX/. THE COVERAGE OF DRY TSTMS IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE GREAT ENOUGH TO
   WARRANT A SEPARATE CRITICAL AREA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN AL...SRN GA AND NRN FL...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED NWLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH...RH
   READINGS 20-30 PERCENT...LONG TERM DROUGHT

IN THE WAKE OF THE STRONG UPPER TROUGH MOVING THROUGH THE GREAT
LAKES AND NEW ENGLAND...A COLD FRONT WILL PUSH SWD THROUGH THE
REMAINDER OF AL/GA AND INTO NRN FLA THIS MORNING. MODERATE NWLY
WINDS WILL DEVELOP IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT DURING THE LATE MORNING
HOURS AS THE LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES STEEPEN AND ALLOW FOR MIXING OF
STRONGER WINDS ALOFT TO THE SURFACE. SUSTAINED NWLY WINDS FROM 15-20
WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH ARE ANTICIPATED TO OCCUR THROUGH MOST OF THE
AFTERNOON. IN ADDITION TO THE WINDS...DRY AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE
REGION WITH DWPTS IN THE 30S/40S. THESE READINGS COMBINED WITH
TEMPERATURES NEAR 80 WILL SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS FROM 20-30
PERCENT. CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO DIMINISH
QUICKLY AS WINDS DECREASE AROUND SUNSET.

   ...NRN/CENTRAL GA AND THE CAROLINAS...
MOST OF THIS AREA HAS RECEIVED OVER 0.25 INCH /WITH SOME LOCATIONS
RECEIVING MUCH MORE/ OF RAINFALL IN THE LAST 1-2 DAYS. THUS DESPITE
WARM/DRY AND BREEZY CONDITIONS...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT OVER
THE AREA IS NOT EXPECTED TODAY.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0418 AM CDT THU APR 12 2007

   VALID 131200Z - 141200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A PORTION OF SRN NM AND WRN TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AS A STRONG UPPER TROUGH MOVES THROUGH THE SRN ROCKIES DURING THE
PERIOD...MODERATE TO STRONG WLY SFC WINDS WILL AGAIN OCCUR OVER
PORTIONS OF SRN NM AND WRN TX...WITH CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS SPREADING FURTHER EAST THAN DAY ONE BEHIND AN ADVANCING
DRYLINE. IN THE WAKE OF THIS SYSTEM...DRY AIR WITH RH READINGS FROM
5-10 PERCENT AND SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 10-20 MPH WILL OCCUR OVER THE
LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY/SRN AZ. FURTHER EAST...VERY DRY AIR WILL BE IN
PLACE OVER A LARGE PORTION OF THE SERN STATES WITH RH READINGS FROM
20-30 PERCENT. LIGHT WINDS /LESS THAN 10 MPH/ WILL LEAD TO NO
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK ISSUANCE FOR THIS AREA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN NM AND WRN TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WLY WINDS FROM 25-35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP
TO 50 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT

CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS MAY BE ONGOING OVER THE GUADALUPE
MTNS AND ADJACENT AREAS OF FAR WRN TX/SRN NM AT THE START OF THE
PERIOD. THESE CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP EWD INTO THE DAVIS MTNS AND
LOWER ELEVATIONS OF WRN TX/SERN NM THROUGH THE AFTERNOON IN THE WAKE
   OF A DRYLINE. AS A STRONG MID/UPPER LEVEL SPEED MAX /70-100 KTS/
ROTATES ACROSS THE REGION DURING THE AFTERNOON...MOMENTUM TRANSFER
OF STRONG WINDS ALOFT SHOULD LEAD TO SUSTAINED WINDS OVER 35 MPH AND
WIND GUSTS OCCASIONALLY IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH. GIVEN THE POTENTIAL FOR
THESE CONDITIONS...PORTIONS OF THE AREA MAY BE UPGRADED TO EXTREMELY
CRITICAL IN TOMORROW/S OUTLOOK. CRITICAL CONDITIONS WILL DIMINISH
OVERNIGHT AS A STRONG COLD FRONT PUSHES SWD THROUGH THE AREA.

   ...SERN STATES...
VERY DRY AIR /RH READINGS FROM 20-30 PERCENT/ WILL BE LOCATED OVER A
MAJORITY OF THE SERN STATES TOMORROW AFTERNOON...EXCEPT FOR THE
IMMEDIATE COASTAL AREAS. GIVEN THE LACK OF UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT AND
SFC HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER THE REGION...SUSTAINED WINDS LESS
THAN 10 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   ...LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY/SRN AZ...
IN THE WAKE OF THE SRN ROCKIES UPPER TROUGH...MODEST N-NWLY WINDS
FROM 10-20 MPH ARE EXPECTED TOMORROW AFTERNOON OVER THE LOWER CO
RIVER VALLEY AND SRN AZ. DESPITE TEMPERATURES 5-10 DEG F COOLER THAN
DAY 1...VERY DRY AIR WITH DWPTS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS WILL SUPPORT
MIN RH READINGS FROM 5-10 PERCENT.
