   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0445 AM CDT SUN APR 15 2007

   VALID 151200Z - 161200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN AZ/SWRN NM...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
VERY WINDY CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST TODAY ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE
SOUTHWEST...AS A STRONG UPPER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM APPROACHES FROM
SRN CA. UPPER LOW WILL BE LOCATED ACROSS THE LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY
BY LATE AFTN...ACCOMPANIED BY A 75KT MID LEVEL JET MAX. SFC LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DEEPEN WITH COLD FRONT MOVING INTO SERN AZ THIS
AFTN. AHEAD OF THIS FRONT...SELY SFC WINDS WILL VEER TO SWLY THROUGH
THE DAY WITH GUSTS ABOVE 35-40 MPH POSSIBLE. ELSEWHERE...MID LEVEL
RIDGE WILL BUILD ACROSS THE MIDDLE OF THE CONUS WITH A LARGE UPPER
TROUGH MOVING THROUGH THE OH VALLEY AND SOUTHEAST. STRONG
POST-FRONTAL WINDS ARE LIKELY ACROSS THE FL PANHANDLE BUT MARGINAL
RH VALUES AND RECENT RAIN /AT LEAST FOR SOME LOCATIONS/ WILL LOWER
POTENTIAL FOR CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS TODAY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN AZ/SWRN NM...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SFC WINDS 25-35 MPH WITH HIGHER
GUSTS/MIN RH VALUES BELOW 15 PERCENT/LONG TERM DROUGHT

ALTHOUGH MAX TEMPS ARE FORECAST TO BE NEAR NORMAL...SUSTAINED WINDS
WILL INCREASE TO 25-35 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS POSSIBLE...INCREASING
THE THREAT FOR WIND DRIVEN FIRES. LATEST FIRE DANGER CLASS VALUES
RANGE FROM HIGH TO EXTREME ACROSS PORTIONS OF SRN AZ. MIN HUMIDITY
VALUES ARE AGAIN FORECAST TO DROP BELOW 10-15 PERCENT...WITH SINGLE
DIGIT VALUES IN SOME LOCATIONS. FARTHER EAST ACROSS SERN NM AND FAR
W TX...WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED THOUGH WINDS WILL NOT BE
   QUITE AS STRONG.

   ...NRN AZ/REST OF NM/FAR W TX...
VERY WINDY CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY TODAY...WITH LOW HUMIDITY
ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS. HOWEVER...DROUGHT CONDITIONS
ARE NOT AS SEVERE ACROSS NRN/CNTRL NM AS FARTHER WEST...AND IT
APPEARS THAT THE GREATEST FIRE THREAT WILL BE ACROSS THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS OF SERN NM/FAR W TX WHERE A PERIOD OF NEAR CRITICAL FIRE
CONDITIONS IS POSSIBLE. COOLER TEMPERATURES WILL LOWER FIRE THREAT
ACROSS NRN AZ DESPITE THE GUSTY WINDS.
