   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0414 AM CDT MON APR 23 2007

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SERN AZ INTO SRN NM AND FAR WRN
   TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS THE SRN ROCKIES INTO THE PLAINS
PRODUCING STRONG WINDS AND CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS OVER AZ/NM/TX.
HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN OVER THE SERN STATES...AND SLY FLOW OUT OF
THIS HIGH WILL PRODUCE INCREASED FIRE THREAT FROM MID ATLANTIC NWD
TO NEW ENGLAND. AREAS FROM GA INTO FL WILL CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE
VERY DRY CONDITIONS WITH LIGHT WIND.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SERN AZ INTO SRN NM AND FAR WRN
   TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH

A STRONG UPPER TROUGH/JET WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA TODAY AND WILL
RESULT IN STRONG SURFACE WINDS OF 25-35 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. RH
SHOULD REMAIN BELOW 15 PERCENT DURING THE AFTERNOON WITH SUNNY
SKIES. THE STRONG HEATING WILL RESULT IN DEEP MIXED LAYERS FAVORING
   FIRE GROWTH.

   ...PA INTO NEW ENGLAND...
A SURFACE LOW AND PRESSURE TROUGH WILL MOVE QUICKLY EWD OUT OF THE
GREAT LAKES AND INTO SERN CANADA AND NEW ENGLAND. SWLY WINDS WILL
FLOW OUT OF THE HIGH TO THE SOUTH...AND WILL RESULT IN VERY WARM AND
DRY CONDITIONS. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15-20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL
OCCUR. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RISE INTO THE 80S WITH MIN RH
GENERALLY IN THE 20 PERCENT RANGE. THIS WILL RESULT IN AN INCREASED
FIRE THREAT. HOWEVER...HEAVY PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS OVER THE PAST FEW
WEEKS...SOME NEAR RECORD LEVELS...SHOULD HELP MITIGATE FIRE THREAT.

   ...MID ATLANTIC REGION...
NEAR CRITICAL CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR TODAY WITH AREAS OF MODERATE
WINDS AND LOW RH. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE OVER THE CAROLINAS
WITH SPEEDS NEAR 15 MPH BUT WITH HIGHER GUSTS. WARM TEMPERATURES IN
THE 80S WILL REDUCE RH TO 20-25 PERCENT BY AFTERNOON. EFFECTS OF
RECENT PRECIPITATION ESPECIALLY OVER THE ERN CAROLINAS WILL MITIGATE
   FIRE THREAT.

   ...SRN GA INTO NRN FL...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE VERY WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS
TODAY. RECENT DROUGHT CONDITIONS COMBINED WITH LOW RH IN THE 20S AND
STRONG HEATING WILL PRODUCE AN ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE FOR FIRE
GROWTH. RELATIVELY LIGHT WINDS WILL MITIGATE THE THREAT.
