   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0345 AM CDT WED MAY 02 2007

   VALID 021200Z - 031200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SERN CA/SRN NV/SW UT/NW AZ...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ERN MT/WRN DAKOTAS/NERN WY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
MORNING WATER VAPOR LOOPS SHOW NEXT JET MAX APPROACHING CNTRL CA.
MID LEVEL WINDS ARE FORECAST TO INCREASE TO 70-80 KT BY AFTN ACROSS
CA AND THE SRN GREAT BASIN AS LONG WAVE TROUGH MOVES ONSHORE. SFC
LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN AS IT MOVES NE TOWARD SLC BY THIS AFTN.
ANOTHER AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN IN THE LEE OF THE ROCKIES
ACROSS CNTRL MT TODAY...WITH TIGHTENING PRESSURE GRADIENT ASSOCIATED
WITH BOTH SYSTEMS. CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY ACROSS
PORTIONS OF THE SRN GREAT BASIN/LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY THROUGH SRN UT
WITH LOW HUMIDITY VALUES AND STRONG WINDS FORECAST THIS AFTN. HOT
AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SERN CA/SRN NV/SW UT/NW AZ...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WINDS 20-30 MPH/RH VALUES BELOW 15
   PERCENT/EXTREME LONG TERM DROUGHT

STRONG SFC WINDS WILL DEVELOP BY LATE THIS MORNING INTO AFTN ACROSS
SERN CA THROUGH THE SRN GREAT BASIN AND SRN UT. SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF
20-30 MPH ARE LIKELY WITH OCNL HIGHER GUSTS ABOVE 40 MPH. MINIMUM RH
VALUES WILL FALL BELOW 10 PERCENT WITH TEMP/DEWPOINT SPREADS OF
AROUND 60-70 DEGREES. THIS AREA CONTINUES TO SUFFER FROM EXTREME
LONG TERM DROUGHT AND HIGH TO EXTREME OBSERVED FIRE DANGER INDEX
VALUES. THE COMBINATION OF WIND AND HUMIDITY WILL INCREASE THE RISK
OF WILDFIRE SPREAD IF NEW IGNITIONS OCCUR.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ERN MT/WRN DAKOTAS/NERN WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WINDS 20-35 MPH/RH VALUES BELOW 25-30
PERCENT/HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER VALUES

STRONG SELY WINDS WILL DEVELOP BY EARLY AFTN WITH SPEEDS OF 20-35
MPH LIKELY. MAX TEMPS WILL CLIMB INTO THE LOW TO MID 70S...WHICH IS
MORE THAN 10-15 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL IN SOME LOCATIONS. THESE
TEMPERATURES WILL ALLOW MINIMUM RH VALUES TO FALL TO AROUND 25
PERCENT OR SLIGHTLY BELOW. COMBINED WITH HIGH/VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER
CLASS VALUES...CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS
AFTN...ENHANCING THE THREAT FOR WIND DRIVEN WILDFIRE. IN
ADDITION...HIGH BASED TSTMS ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE HIGH
PLAINS OF NERN WY/ERN MT. THESE STORMS MAY POSE A RISK OF LIGHTNING
IGNITIONS DEPENDING ON COVERAGE OF STORMS AND STRONG CONVECTIVE
   GUSTS.

   ...SOUTHEAST...
TEMPERATURES WILL AGAIN BE A FEW DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...RANGING FROM
THE MID 80S TO LOWER 90S...WITH MINIMUM RH VALUES DROPPING BELOW
25-30 PERCENT FOR SEVERAL HOURS TODAY. SFC WINDS WILL GENERALLY BE
LIGHT...BUT THE FUELS REMAIN VERY DRY GIVEN HIGH KBDI VALUES ABOVE
500 IN MANY LOCATIONS AND ONGOING LARGE WILDFIRES.

   VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NRN AND CNTRL AZ/SRN UT/SW CO/NW
   NM...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ND/NRN SD/NW MN...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
BY THURSDAY...UPPER LEVEL TROUGH AXIS WILL BE LOCATED FROM THE
PACIFIC NORTHWEST THROUGH THE NRN GREAT BASIN...WITH DIGGING JET
STREAK EXTENDING FROM THE FOUR CORNERS THROUGH SRN AND CNTRL CA.
THIS STORM SYSTEM WILL SLOWLY SHIFT EWD THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY...WITH
MID LEVEL RIDGE PERSISTING ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST. IN THE
NORTHEAST...MID LEVEL WINDS WILL INCREASE TO AROUND 70-80 KT IN
RESPONSE TO AMPLIFYING RIDGE UPSTREAM. CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS ARE
EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHWEST AND NRN PLAINS/UPPER
   MIDWEST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN AND CNTRL AZ/SRN UT/SW CO/NW
   NM...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WINDS 20-25 MPH/MINIMUM RH VALUES
BELOW 15 PERCENT/EXTREME LONG TERM DROUGHT

NOSE OF MID LEVEL JET WILL REACH THE FOUR CORNERS BY MID AFTN ON
THU...WITH SFC LOW DEVELOPING AND DEEPENING INVOF OF NW NM.
SUSTAINED W/SW WINDS WILL INCREASE TO AROUND 20-30 MPH WITH HIGHER
GUSTS POSSIBLE BY AFTN. MEANWHILE...RH VALUES WILL AGAIN DIP BELOW
10-15 PERCENT. WITH TEMPS IN THE 60S/70S TO LOWER 80S AND INCREASED
WIND...POTENTIAL FOR CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS WILL BE ENHANCED FROM
THE LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY THROUGH PORTIONS OF SRN UT. NO SIGNIFICANT
   PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED THROUGH THURSDAY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ND/NRN SD/NW MN...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WINDS 20-35 MPH/MINIMUM RH VALUES
   BELOW 30 PERCENT/DRY FUELS

LEE TROUGH AXIS WILL REMAIN ACROSS ERN MT/ERN WY THROUGH MUCH OF THE
DAY...BUT VERY STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE DAKOTAS/NEB AND
WRN MN. SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 25-35 MPH ARE LIKELY WITH HIGHER GUSTS
NEAR 40 MPH POSSIBLE. ANY PRECIPITATION THROUGH THU AFTN SHOULD BE
CONFINED TO THE HIGH PLAINS...WITH A WARM FRONT EXTENDING ACROSS THE
WRN DAKOTAS. HIGH TEMPS WILL AGAIN CLIMB WELL INTO THE 70S WITH MIN
RH VALUES FALLING BELOW 30 PERCENT. GIVEN NUMEROUS LARGE FIRES
ONGOING IN NW MN AND THE POTENTIAL FOR RAPID FIRE SPREAD ON THU...A
   CRITICAL AREA HAS BEEN ISSUED.

   ...NRN AND ERN NY/VT/NH/SRN ME/MA...
MID LEVEL JET STREAK ASSOCIATED WITH DEPARTING UPPER LOW WILL
PROVIDE LARGE SCALE SUPPORT FOR STRONG SFC WINDS ACROSS PORTIONS OF
THE NORTHEAST ON THU. IN GENERAL...SUSTAINED SFC WINDS ARE EXPECTED
TO RANGE FROM 15-20 MPH WITH MIN RH VALUES BETWEEN 25-35 PERCENT.
NEAR CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE THU AFTN...WITH DRY
CONDITIONS CONTINUING THROUGH THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK.
