   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0352 AM CDT WED MAY 09 2007

   VALID 091200Z - 101200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
NRN STREAM JET WILL REMAIN ALONG THE U.S./CANADIAN BORDER WITH QUICK
MOVING UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH ACROSS CNTRL CANADA. A SURFACE TROUGH
WILL EXTEND SWD INTO THE NRN PLAINS WITH WARM AND WINDY CONDITIONS
FROM MT INTO NRN MN. TO THE S...VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL
PERSIST UNDER UPPER RIDGE ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN AND SWRN STATES.

A STACKED SFC/UPPER LOW WILL DRIFT SLOWLY WWD TOWARD THE GA COAST
WITH SOME WEAKENING EXPECTED. NONETHELESS...NWLY WINDS AROUND THIS
SYSTEM WILL KEEP FIRE DANGER ELEVATED ALTHOUGH HUMIDITY WILL
INCREASE FROM SERN GA INTO ERN FL. ELSEWHERE...A HIGH AMPLITUDE BUT
WEAK UPPER TROUGH WILL DRIFT EWD ACROSS THE SRN PLAINS...WITH AREAS
   OF RAIN FROM KS/MO SWD.

   ...FL/SRN GA/SERN AL...
PRESENCE OF LOW TO THE E WILL KEEP NLY FLOW ACROSS THE REGION.
SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15-20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL OCCUR FROM SERN
GA INTO NRN FL AND THE ERN FL PENINSULA. THESE AREAS WILL ALSO SEE
AN INCREASE IN HUMIDITY...WHICH WILL TEND TO MITIGATE FIRE THREAT.
THE LOWEST HUMIDITY WILL BE FARTHER W INTO SWRN GA...THE FL
PANHANDLE...AND AL WITH VALUES OF 25-35 PERCENT THIS AFTERNOON.
WINDS IN THIS AREA WILL BE LIGHTER FROM 10-15 MPH.

...SRN CA AND NV INTO WRN AZ/SRN UT...
UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER THE AREA TODAY AND WILL LEAD TO VERY
HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS. DESPITE WEAK WIND GENERALLY LESS THAN 10
MPH...FIRE THREAT WILL BE HIGH DUE TO LONG DURATIONS OF VERY LOW RH
IN THE SINGLE DIGITS. THE STRONG HEATING AND LOW RH WILL ALSO RESULT
IN HIGH INSTABILITY AND A HIGH HAINES INDEX. THIS WILL RESULT IN
FAVORABLE GROWTH CONDITIONS DURING THE AFTERNOON IN THE VICINITY OF
   ONGOING FIRES.

   ...ERN MT INTO NWRN MN...
A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL EXTEND FROM ERN MT INTO WRN ND THIS
AFTERNOON...TRAILING FROM A SURFACE LOW OVER MANITOBA. BEHIND THIS
TROUGH OVER ERN MT...WINDS WILL SHIFT TO W AT 15-20 MPH WHILE
TEMPERATURES RISE INTO THE LOWER 80S WITH RH NEAR 20 PERCENT.
FARTHER E AND AHEAD OF THE TROUGH/WIND SHIFT...SWLY WINDS OF 15-20
MPH WILL EXIST OVER NRN MN WHERE DROUGHT PERSISTS. THE COMBINATION
OF WINDS AND MARGINALLY LOW RH WILL RESULT IN INCREASED FIRE DANGER
   THIS AFTERNOON.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0353 AM CDT WED MAY 09 2007

   VALID 101200Z - 111200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN AND FOUR
CORNERS STATES WITH VERY LOW RH AND HOT TEMPERATURES. INCREASED FLOW
AROUND WRN EDGE OF UPPER RIDGE WILL ENHANCE WINDS ACROSS THE WRN/SRN
GREAT BASIN. TO THE NE...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD INTO THE NRN
PLAINS WITH DRY AIR AND ONLY SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES...WITH
ELEVATED FIRE THREAT. UPPER LOW WILL MOVE TO NEAR THE GA/FL COAST
WITH INCREASED HUMIDITY AND LESSENING FIRE THREAT...EXCEPT FOR
PATCHES OF LOW RH INTERIOR SRN FL.

   ...GREAT BASIN AND SWRN STATES...
STRONG UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN IN PLACE WITH AN EXTREMELY DRY
CONDITIONS. MIN RH OF 5-10 PERCENT WILL BE COMMON WITH HOT
TEMPERATURES. A HIGH HAINES INDEX WILL RESULT WITH THREAT OF PLUME
   DOMINATED FIRES DURING THE AFTERNOON.

MODELS INDICATE SOME INCREASE IN WINDS WILL OCCUR MAINLY OVER CNTRL
NV...AHEAD OF A WEAK SURFACE LOW. SWLY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH ARE
LIKELY. THE COMBINATION OF WINDS AND VERY LOW RH...ALONG WITH HIGH
HAINES INDEX MAY RESULT IN LOCALLY CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS.
UNCERTAINTY IN WIND FORECAST WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL OUTLOOK AT
   THIS TIME.

   ...UPPER MS VALLEY REGION...
GUSTY NLY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH ARE LIKELY AS COOLER AIR FILTERS INTO
THE REGION. GIVEN LOW DEWPOINTS...MIN RH WILL MANAGE TO DIP INTO THE
25-30 PERCENT RANGE THU AFTERNOON OVER NRN MN. WINDS WILL BE WEAKER
OVER WI...WITH 10 MPH EXPECTED ALONG WITH LOW RH AND WARMER
   TEMPERATURES.

   ...INTERIOR SOUTH FL...
WLY FLOW AROUND THE WEAKENING LOW AND SOME HEATING WILL ALLOW FOR
POCKETS OF LOW RH NEAR 35 PERCENT AWAY FROM THE COAST. WLY WINDS
NEAR 15 MPH WILL COMBINE WITH LOCAL DRY CONDITIONS RESULTING IN
ELEVATED FIRE THREAT...WITH WINDS AGGRAVATING ANY ONGOING FIRES.
