   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0419 AM CDT FRI MAY 18 2007

   VALID 181200Z - 191200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A PORTION OF THE SERN STATES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL DIG SEWD THROUGH THE ERN CONUS THROUGH
THE PERIOD. AHEAD OF THIS UPPER TROUGH A SFC COLD FRONT WILL MOVE
SEWD...EXTENDING FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO INTO SRN FL BY THE END OF
THE PERIOD. IN THE WAKE OF THE COLD FRONT...DRY AIR AND BREEZY
CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP OVER PORTIONS OF THE SERN STATES...LEADING
TO A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT. FURTHER WEST...A BROAD UPPER
RIDGE WILL EXTEND ACROSS THE ROCKIES. A NRN STREAM SYSTEM WILL TOP
THE RIDGE AND SUPPORT SFC PRESSURE FALLS OVER THE NRN PLAINS. AS A
RESULT...BREEZY SLY WINDS WILL DEVELOP OVER THE CENTRAL/NRN PLAINS
AND UPPER MIDWEST. SCT CONVECTION WILL CONTINUE OVER MUCH OF THE
INTERMTN WEST. WHERE LOW LEVELS WILL BE DRY...ISOLATED DRY TSTMS ARE
EXPECTED OVER THE NRN GREAT BASIN/NRN ROCKIES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF CENTRAL/SRN
AL...SC...MUCH OF GA AND NRN FL...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED NLY WINDS FROM 10-15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP
TO 20 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 20-30 PERCENT...LONG TERM DROUGHT

BEHIND A COLD FRONT...DRIER AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA. DEWPTS ARE
EXPECTED TO BE IN THE 30S/40S IN MOST OF THE AREA BY MID AFTERNOON.
WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 75-85 DEG F RANGE...MIN RH READINGS WILL
AVERAGE AROUND 25 PERCENT. MODERATE NLY WINDS ALOFT /20 MPH/ WILL
MIX DOWN TO THE SURFACE BY LATE MORNING SUPPORT SUSTAINED SFC WINDS
FROM 10-15 MPH. CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO END
   AROUND SUNSET WITH DIMINISHING WINDS.

   ...NRN ROCKIES/NRN GREAT BASIN...
ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE MID LEVEL MOISTURE...TSTMS ARE EXPECTED
TO DEVELOP AGAIN OVER THE AREA TODAY. DESPITE RELATIVELY DRY SFC
CONDITIONS...PRECIP WATER VALUES WILL BE HIGH ENOUGH /0.50 TO 0.60
INCHES/ SUCH THAT A MIX OF WET/DRY TSTMS IS EXPECTED. IN
ADDITION...INCREASING MID LEVEL FLOW WILL SUPPORT MODERATE SWLY
WINDS IN THE NRN GREAT BASIN /15-20 MPH/ SUPPORTING NEAR CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS AS MIN RH READINGS RANGE FROM 10-15 PERCENT.

   ...UPPER MIDWEST....
AS THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE NRN ROCKIES FLATTENS...THE SFC PRESSURE
GRADIENT WILL INTENSIFY OVER THE NRN PLAINS AND UPPER MIDWEST. AS A
RESULT...SLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO BETWEEN 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS
OVER 30 MPH OVER THE PLAINS. WHERE THE LOWEST RH READINGS EXIST
/20-25 PERCENT/ OVER PORTIONS OF THE UPPER MIDWEST /MN...NRN WI AND
THE U.P. OF MI/ SFC WINDS WILL REMAIN BELOW 20 MPH PRECLUDING A
   CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0421 AM CDT FRI MAY 18 2007

   VALID 191200Z - 201200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MUCH OF NRN/CENTRAL FLA...FAR SRN
   GA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER PATTERN OVER THE CONUS WILL BE CHARACTERIZED BY AN UPPER
RIDGE OVER THE CENTRAL CONUS...AND UPPER TROUGHS ON THE WEST/EAST
COASTS. ASSOCIATED WITH THE ERN TROUGH...A COLD FRONT WILL PUSH SWD
THROUGH SOUTH FLA EARLY IN THE PERIOD. IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT...AN
AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL MOVE INTO THE SERN STATES. A MODERATE
PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL EXIST OVER NRN/CENTRAL FLA SUPPORTING MODEST
ENELY WINDS. AHEAD OF THE WRN TROUGH...AND AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL
DEEPEN OVER THE NRN HIGH PLAINS. COMBINED WITH INCREASING FLOW
ALOFT...THIS WILL SUPPORT MODERATE SWLY WINDS OVER THE NRN/CENTRAL
   GREAT BASIN AND NRN ROCKIES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN/CENTRAL FLA...FAR SRN GA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED ENELY WINDS AROUND 15 MPH WITH GUSTS
UP TO 20 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 25-35 PERCENT...LONG TERM
   DROUGHT

AS HIGH PRESSURE SETTLES SWD INTO THE SERN STATES...AND LOW PRESSURE
EXISTS OVER THE FLA STRAITS...A MODERATE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL
DEVELOP OVER MUCH OF FLA. THIS WILL GENERATE SUSTAINED ENELY WINDS
FROM 15-20 MPH /STRONGEST OVER CENTRAL FLA/. ONSHORE FLOW WILL
SUPPORT HIGHER RH READINGS OVER THE EAST COAST OF NRN/CENTRAL
FLA...BUT INLAND AREAS WILL SEE LOW RH READINGS /AROUND 30 PERCENT/
LEADING TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

   ...REST OF THE SERN STATES...
LIGHT WINDS WILL EXIST OVER MUCH OF THE SERN STATES AS REGION WILL
RESIDE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO A BROAD AREA OF SFC HIGH PRESSURE. LOW
DEWPTS WILL SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS FROM 20-30 PERCENT...BUT
SUSTAINED WINDS AVERAGING LESS THAN 10 MPH WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL
   OUTLOOK AREA.

....NRN/CENTRAL GREAT BASIN AND NRN ROCKIES...
AHEAD OF A DEEPENING UPPER TROUGH OVER THE NERN PACIFIC...MID LEVEL
FLOW WILL INTENSIFY OVER THE PAC NW AND NRN ROCKIES. AN AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AND DEEPEN OVER CENTRAL MT AS A
RESULT OF THE INCREASED MID LEVEL FLOW. IN RESPONSE...SWLY WINDS
WILL INCREASE OVER THE NRN/CENTRAL GREAT BASIN AND PORTIONS OF THE
NRN ROCKIES. ATTM...SUSTAINED WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN BELOW 20
MPH OVER MOST OF THE REGION SUCH THAT A CRITICAL OUTLOOK AREA WILL
NOT BE ISSUED. BUT AREA WILL BE MONITORED FOR POSSIBLE UPGRADE.
