   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0423 AM CDT FRI JUN 22 2007

   VALID 221200Z - 231200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NWRN GREAT BASIN/ERN SLOPES OF
   SIERRA NEVADA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRENGTHENING UPPER TROUGH OFF THE PAC NW COAST WILL MOVE INLAND
THROUGH TONIGHT. AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM...SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE
OVER THE NWRN GREAT BASIN/SIERRA NEVADA AND INTERIOR WA/ORE. WHERE
WARM TEMPERATURES/LOW RH READINGS CO-EXIST...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS WILL BE PRESENT OVER NERN CA/NWRN NV AND SERN ORE. VERY
WARM AIR/LOW RH READINGS WILL EXIST OVER MUCH OF THE REMAINDER OF
THE SOUTHWEST/CENTRAL/SRN ROCKIES. ISOLATED DRY TSTMS WILL BE
POSSIBLE ALONG THE WRN EDGE OF ELEVATED MOISTURE OVER THE SRN
ROCKIES. FURTHER EAST...A BROAD AREA OF SFC HIGH PRESSURE WILL EXIST
OVER THE SERN STATES...SUPPORTING DRY AIR/LIGHT WINDS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN CA/NWRN NV AND SERN ORE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS AROUND 20 MPH...MIN RH
   READINGS FROM 5-10 PERCENT

INCREASING MID LEVEL WIND FIELDS WILL DEVELOP INTO THE AREA THROUGH
TONIGHT. ASSOCIATED WITH A STRONG UPPER TROUGH...THE SFC PRESSURE
GRADIENT WILL INCREASE OVER THE WEST COAST. THE COMBINATION OF THESE
FACTORS WILL LEAD TO MODERATE SFC WINDS OVER THE ERN SLOPES OF THE
SIERRA NEVADA AND NWRN GREAT BASIN. COMBINED WITH THE WINDS...LOW
DEWPTS AND ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL SUPPORT VERY LOW RH
READINGS FROM 5-10 PERCENT. WINDS WILL DIMINISH SLOWLY THIS
EVENING...LEADING TO POOR RH RECOVERY IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS
   OVERNIGHT.

   ...SRN ROCKIES...
ISOLATED TSTMS WILL BE POSSIBLE TODAY ALONG THE WRN EDGE OF MID
LEVEL MOISTURE. AS IN RECENT DAYS...VERY WARM/DRY LOW LEVELS WILL
   SUPPORT MAINLY DRY TSTMS.

   ...SERN STATES...
ANOTHER DAY OF LOW RH READINGS /20-30 PERCENT/ WILL EXIST TODAY
ASSOCIATED WITH A BROAD AREA OF SFC HIGH PRESSURE. SUSTAINED WINDS
LESS THAN 10 MPH WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL OUTLOOK AREA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN AND
   PORTION OF THE CENTRAL ROCKIES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE INTO THE PAC NW THROUGH THE PERIOD.
A BROAD AREA OF MODERATE SWLY WINDS WILL DEVELOP OVER A LARGE
PORTION OF THE WEST. WHERE MIN RH READINGS WILL BE LESS THAN 15
PERCENT...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL BE PRESENT. FURTHER
EAST...ANOTHER DAY OF LOW RH READINGS WILL OCCUR OVER THE SE.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MUCH OF NV...SERN CA...UT...SERN

READINGS FROM 5-15 PERCENT...LONG TERM DROUGHT

AHEAD OF A STRONG UPPER TROUGH...AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN
OVER THE NRN ROCKIES. INCREASING SFC PRESSURE GRADIENT AND
INCREASING MID LEVEL WINDS COMBINED WITH STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES
AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT WILL SUPPORT MODERATE SWLY SFC WINDS /AOA 20
MPH/. DURING THE DAYTIME...MIN RH READINGS WILL AVERAGE AROUND 10
PERCENT. GIVEN THE STRENGTH OF THE SFC GRADIENT...AREAS AHEAD OF THE
FRONT WILL SEE POOR RH RECOVERIES OVERNIGHT.

   ...SRN ROCKIES...
DRY TSTMS WILL AGAIN DEVELOP TOMORROW AFTERNOON...BUT COVERAGE OF
   TSTMS WILL REMAIN LIMITED.

   ...SOUTHEAST...
