   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0358 AM CDT WED JUL 04 2007

   VALID 041200Z - 051200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR COASTAL RANGE/INTERIOR SOUTHERN
   CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
WHILE A BROAD LONGWAVE TROUGH PREVAILS OVER EASTERN CANADA AND THE
NORTHEAST STATES...UPPER RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD OVER THE
WESTERN STATES...WITH VERY LOW RH VALUES AND RECORD WARMTH IN A
NUMBER OF LOCALES IN THE SOUTHWEST. HIGH PRESSURE DEVELOPING
SOUTHWARD ACROSS CO/NORTHERN NM WILL SUPPORT A WESTWARD SURGE OF
MOISTURE ACROSS THE FOUR CORNERS VICINITY...INCREASING THE CHANCES
FOR ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORMS. ELSEWHERE...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE
WILL KEEP VERY WARM/DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE CAROLINAS/GA TODAY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - COASTAL RANGE/INTERIOR SOUTHERN
   CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY HOT TEMPERATURES/LOW RH AND GUSTY WINDS

BENEATH THE UPPER RIDGE...AN EXTREMELY HOT/DRY AIRMASS WILL PERSIST
ACROSS THE COASTAL RANGE/ANTELOPE VALLEY AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA TODAY.
HIGH TEMPERATURES WELL INTO THE 90S/LOWER 100S WILL BE COMMON IN THE
LOWER ELEVATIONS...WITH TEMPERATURES POSSIBLY REACHING 110-115 IN
THE ANTELOPE VALLEY. VERY LOW SINGLE DIGIT HUMIDITIES ARE
LIKELY...WITH VERY POOR RH RECOVERY OVERNIGHT. PRESSURE
GRADIENT/TERRAIN DRIVEN REGIMES WILL SUPPORT WIND SPEEDS OF 15-25
MPH THROUGH CANYONS AND PASSES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER GUSTS POSSIBLE.

...FAR EASTERN AZ/FAR EASTERN UT AND WESTERN NM/WESTERN CO...
EASTERLY LOW LEVEL WINDS WILL BRING MOISTURE WESTWARD OUT OF NM INTO
EASTERN AZ TODAY...RESULTING IN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS AS FAR WEST
AS EASTERN AZ AND PERHAPS FAR EASTERN UT. THESE STORMS WILL LIKELY
BE DRY...AND ALL WILL PRODUCE GUSTY WINDS. OTHERWISE...IT WILL
REMAIN VERY HOT AND DRY WITH SINGLE DIGIT RH VALUES...ALONG WITH
LOCALLY GUSTY TERRAIN DRIVEN WINDS OF 10-20 MPH.

   VALID 051200Z - 061200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR EASTERN AZ/EASTERN UT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
PRONOUNCED UPPER RIDGE WILL KEEP HOT/DRY CONDITIONS IN MOST AREAS
WEST OF THE ROCKIES ON THURSDAY...WITH RECORD OR NEAR RECORD HIGH
TEMPERATURES AND VERY LOW RH FROM THE SOUTHWEST STATES INTO THE
NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN REGION. HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN CENTERED
OVER CO/NORTHERN NM...ALLOWING MID LEVEL MOISTURE TO INCREASE WITH
WEST EXTENT ACROSS THE FOUR CORNERS VICINITY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - EASTERN AZ/EASTERN UT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: DRY THUNDERSTORMS AND HOT/DRY CONDITIONS

A WESTWARD PUSH OF MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL LIKELY LEAD TO AN
INCREASED COVERAGE OF DRY THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS EASTERN AZ AND
EASTERN UT THURSDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING. MODEL FORECAST SOUNDINGS
ACROSS EASTERN AZ/EASTERN UT DEPICT AMPLE INSTABILITY ATOP A DEEPLY
MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER...FAVORABLE FOR ISOLATED TO SCATTERED DRY
THUNDERSTORMS WITH LITTLE RAINFALL. NEW LIGHTNING IGNITIONS WILL BE
POSSIBLE AMIDST HOT/DRY CONDITIONS AND ANTECEDENT DROUGHT...IN
ADDITION TO GUSTY/ERRATIC WINDS WITH THUNDERSTORM DOWNDRAFTS.

   ...SOUTHERN CA...
EXTREMELY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS INTERIOR/COASTAL
RANGE AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA...WITH TEMPERATURES WARMING INTO THE
95-110 F RANGE AND SINGLE DIGIT AFTERNOON RH VALUES IN MANY LOCALES.
A SLIGHTLY RELAXED PRESSURE GRADIENT MAY LEAD TO A MODEST DECREASE
IN WIND SPEEDS ON THURSDAY...BUT LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS WILL
   NEVERTHELESS BE POSSIBLE.

...SIERRA AND WESTERN NV INTO CENTRAL ORE...
   AMIDST VERY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS...A FEW/ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORMS
MAY BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE SIERRAS OF CA AND WESTERN NV INTO CENTRAL
ORE THURSDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING. ALTHOUGH THIS ACTIVITY SHOULD BE
RATHER ISOLATED IN NATURE...A FEW LIGHTNING IGNITIONS ARE POSSIBLE.
