   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0353 AM CDT THU JUL 05 2007

   VALID 051200Z - 061200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA INCLUDING THE
   ANTELOPE VALLEY AND COASTAL RANGE...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR EASTERN AZ AND CENTRAL/EASTERN
   UT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
PRONOUNCED UPPER RIDGE WILL KEEP VERY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS IN MOST
AREAS WEST OF THE ROCKIES TODAY...WITH RECORD OR NEAR RECORD HIGH
TEMPERATURES AND VERY LOW RH FROM THE SOUTHWEST STATES INTO THE
NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN REGION AND PORTIONS OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST.
HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN CENTERED OVER CO/NORTHERN NM...ALLOWING
MID LEVEL MOISTURE TO INCREASE WITH WEST EXTENT ACROSS THE FOUR
   CORNERS VICINITY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA INCLUDING THE
   ANTELOPE VALLEY AND COASTAL RANGE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS WITH LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS

EXTREMELY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS INTERIOR/COASTAL
RANGE AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA...WITH TEMPERATURES WARMING INTO THE
95-110 F RANGE AND SINGLE DIGIT AFTERNOON RH VALUES IN MANY LOCALES.
IN ADDITION TO LONG TERM DROUGHT AND RECORD HEAT/VERY LOW
RH...MAINLY OFFSHORE GRADIENTS WILL CONTINUE TO PROMOTE LOCALLY
   GUSTY WINDS THROUGH THE PERIOD.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - EASTERN AZ AND CENTRAL/EASTERN UT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: DRY THUNDERSTORMS AND HOT/DRY CONDITIONS

A WESTWARD PUSH OF MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL LEAD TO AN INCREASED
COVERAGE OF DRY THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS EASTERN AZ AND MUCH OF
CENTRAL/EASTERN UT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. MODEL FORECAST
SOUNDINGS ACROSS THIS REGION PORTRAY AMPLE INSTABILITY ATOP A DEEPLY
MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER...FAVORABLE FOR ISOLATED TO SCATTERED DRY
THUNDERSTORMS WITH LITTLE RAINFALL. NEW FIRE STARTS APPEAR TO BE A
DISTINCT POSSIBILITY AMIDST HOT/DRY CONDITIONS AND ANTECEDENT
DROUGHT WITH HIGH LIGHTNING IGNITION EFFICIENCIES. IN ADDITION...DRY
SUB-CLOUD LAYERS/EVAPORATIVE COOLING WILL LEAD TO VERY GUSTY/ERRATIC
   WINDS WITH ANY THUNDERSTORM DOWNDRAFTS.

...CA SIERRAS/MUCH OF NV INTO SOUTHERN ID AND CENTRAL/EASTERN
   PORTIONS OF ORE AND WA...
BENEATH UPPER RIDGE...AND IN VICINITY OF THERMALLY ENHANCED LOW
PRESSURE TROUGH...VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL EXIST FROM THE
GREAT BASIN/CA SIERRAS INTO ID AND AREAS EAST OF THE CASCADES IN
ORE/WA. RECORD OR NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE POSSIBLE IN MANY
LOCALES...WITH CRITICALLY LOW RH VALUES. WITH LARGE SCALE WINDS
GENERALLY REMAINING LIGHT...TERRAIN-DRIVEN CIRCULATIONS WILL BE
DOMINANT...WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR PLUME DOMINATED FIRES.

IN ADDITION...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE THIS
AFTERNOON/EVENING ACROSS THE SIERRA MOUNTAINS OF CA/FAR WESTERN NV.
ALTHOUGH THIS ACTIVITY SHOULD BE RATHER ISOLATED IN NATURE...A FEW
LIGHTNING IGNITIONS ARE POSSIBLE...WITH THE CONDITIONAL POSSIBILITY
OF FAST FIRE GROWTH GIVEN THE HOT/DRY CONDITIONS.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0516 AM CDT THU JUL 05 2007

   VALID 061200Z - 071200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CA SIERRAS INTO CENTRAL/EASTERN
   ORE AND NV/FAR WESTERN ID...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA INTO SOUTHERN
   NV...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
POTENTIALLY ACTIVE FIRE WEATHER DAY ANTICIPATED ON FRIDAY ACROSS A
LARGE PORTION OF THE WESTERN STATES. PROMINENT UPPER RIDGE OVER THE
WESTERN STATES WILL BEGIN TO WEAKEN ON FRIDAY...LARGELY OWING TO A
SHORTWAVE TROUGH CROSSING THE WESTERN CANADIAN PROVINCES. AN UPPER
LOW NEARING NORTHERN CA IS EXPECTED TO INDUCE DRY THUNDERSTORMS
ACROSS THE ORE/CA CASCADES AND SIERRAS INTO NV AND PERHAPS WESTERN
   ID.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CA SIERRAS INTO CENTRAL/EASTERN ORE
   AND NV/FAR WESTERN ID...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: DRY THUNDERSTORMS AND HOT/DRY CONDITIONS

WITH SUFFICIENT MID LEVEL MOISTURE AND LARGE SCALE FORCING FOR
ASCENT...AN UPPER LOW NEARING NORTHERN CA IS EXPECTED TO LEAD TO
ISOLATED TO SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING
FROM THE CA SIERRAS INTO CENTRAL/EASTERN ORE AND WESTERN NV...AND
PERHAPS FAR WESTERN ID. AMIDST HOT/DRY CONDITIONS...NEW FIRE STARTS
ARE PROBABLE GIVEN THE HIGH LIGHTNING IGNITION EFFICIENCIES. A
HOT/DEEPLY MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER WILL PROMOTE GUSTY DOWNDRAFTS NEAR
   ANY THUNDERSTORMS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA INTO SOUTHERN
   NV...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS AND GUSTY WINDS

ON THE SOUTHEAST/EASTERN PERIPHERY OF THE UPPER LOW ACROSS NORTHERN
CA...AN ENHANCED BELT OF MID LEVEL FLOW AND AMPLE PRESSURE GRADIENT
WILL SUPPORT BROAD SCALE GUSTY SOUTH/SOUTHWEST WINDS FROM INTERIOR
CA INTO SOUTHERN NV ON FRIDAY. ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES MAY BE SLIGHTLY
COOLER GIVEN THE ONSHORE FLOW WITH THE UPPER LOW...TEMPERATURES WILL
NEVERTHELESS BE QUITE HOT...IN ADDITION TO VERY LOW RH VALUES.

...EASTERN ORE/EASTERN WA/MUCH OF ID INTO WESTERN MT...
AS UPPER RIDGE BREAKS DOWN...MODERATELY STRONG/GUSTY WINDS ARE
LIKELY EAST OF THE ORE/WA CASCADES AND ACROSS THE NORTHERN
INTERMOUNTAIN REGION. ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES MAY BE SLIGHTLY COOLER
FROM THE RECORD/NEAR RECORD HEAT OF THURSDAY...HOT/DRY CONDITIONS
WILL NEVERTHELESS CONTINUE ON FRIDAY. PORTIONS OF THIS REGION MAY BE
UPGRADED TO A CRITICAL RISK IN THE SUBSEQUENT DAY 1 FIRE OUTLOOK.

   ...UT/AZ...
AS MID LEVEL MOISTURE CONTINUES TO GRADUALLY DEVELOP WESTWARD...A
MIX OF DRY/WET THUNDERSTORMS ARE AGAIN LIKELY ACROSS UT/AZ ON
FRIDAY...WITH THE DRIEST STORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF WESTERN/CENTRAL
UT AND NORTHERN AZ. NEW LIGHTNING IGNITIONS ARE POSSIBLE...IN
ADDITION TO GUSTY WINDS IN ASSOCIATION WITH THUNDERSTORM DOWNDRAFTS.
