   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0455 AM CDT WED JUL 11 2007

   VALID 111200Z - 121200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN ORE/NE CA THROUGH THE SRN
   SIERRA/NV/NW AZ/WRN AND CNTRL UT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS WILL REMAIN FOCUSED ON THE WEST
TODAY...SPECIFICALLY ACROSS PORTIONS OF ORE THROUGH THE GREAT BASIN
AND INTO PARTS OF UT AND AZ. UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN IN PLACE ACROSS
THE WEST...WITH WELL ABOVE AVERAGE AND RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES
EXPECTED. EARLY MORNING WATER VAPOR LOOPS SHOW AT LEAST A COUPLE
UPPER IMPULSES MOVING ACROSS CA...ONE OF WHICH IS SUPPORTING
OVERNIGHT TSTMS ACROSS SW ORE. LARGE SCALE SUPPORT FOR TSTMS
COMBINED WITH INCREASING MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL ENHANCE POTENTIAL
FOR AFTN/EVE TSTMS ACROSS THE OUTLOOK AREA...AND SOME OF THESE
STORMS WILL CONTAIN DRY LIGHTNING. GIVEN EXTREMELY DRY FUEL
CONDITIONS...THERE WILL BE AN INCREASED POTENTIAL FOR NEW IGNITIONS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN ORE/NE CA THROUGH THE SRN
   SIERRA/NV/NW AZ/WRN AND CNTRL UT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: ISOLD TO SCATTERED DRY TSTMS/RECORD HIGH
TEMPERATURES/MIN RH VALUES BELOW 15-25 PERCENT/EXTREMELY DRY FUELS

FORECAST SOUNDINGS FROM NRN CA/SWRN ORE INDICATE INCREASING PW
VALUES /ABOVE 1 INCH/ THROUGH THE AFTN AND SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE 50S.
THIS WOULD SUGGEST THAT WHILE THERE MAY BE SCATTERED TSTM
COVERAGE...POTENTIAL FOR DRY LIGHTNING WILL BE GREATER EAST OF THE
MOISTURE AXIS...ACROSS SCNTRL THROUGH SERN ORE AND THE GREAT BASIN.
MEANWHILE...FORECAST SOUNDINGS ARE SUPPORTIVE OF DRY LIGHTNING
STRIKES ACROSS MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN/NW AZ AND PARTS OF UT. IN
THIS REGION...JUST ENOUGH MID LEVEL MOISTURE EXISTS TO SUPPORT
STORMS BUT PW VALUES ARE SUFFICIENTLY LOW WITH DRY SUB-CLOUD LAYERS
INDICATED ON SOUNDINGS TO SUPPORT DRY LIGHTNING. HIGH TEMPS IN THE
90S/100S ARE FORECAST AND RESULTING HUMIDITY VALUES WILL FALL BELOW
   15-25 PERCENT.

REGARDLESS OF WHETHER STORMS CONTAIN WETTING RAINS...STORMS ARE
FORECAST ACROSS MUCH OF THE WEST...AND ALL WILL CONTAIN CLOUD TO
GROUND LIGHTNING AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS...WHICH WILL INCREASE
HAZARDS FOR ONGOING FIRE FIGHTING OPERATIONS.

   ...ERN UT/WRN CO...
ISOLD DRY TSTMS ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTN ACROSS ERN UT AND WRN CO DUE
TO INCREASING MID LEVEL MOISTURE FROM THE SOUTH. GIVEN LARGE
TEMP/DEWPOINT SPREADS AT THE SFC...SOME OF THESE STORMS WILL PRODUCE
DRY LIGHTNING STRIKES. HOWEVER...COVERAGE IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE AS
   WIDESPREAD AS FARTHER WEST.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0457 AM CDT WED JUL 11 2007

   VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN NV/NRN AZ/UT/WRN CO/SW WY/SRN
   ID/SERN ORE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL AMPLIFY ON THURSDAY AS ERN PACIFIC TROUGH
APPROACHES AND MID LEVEL JET BEGINS TO MOVE ONSHORE. SUFFICIENT MID
LEVEL MOISTURE WILL AGAIN BE IN PLACE TO SUPPORT SCATTERED
AFTN/EVENING TSTMS...SOME OF WHICH WILL CONTAIN DRY LIGHTNING
STRIKES. ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH LOW HUMIDITY AND
THE POTENTIAL FOR LIGHTNING WILL RESULT IN CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS
ON THURSDAY FOR MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN THROUGH THE NRN ROCKIES.

   ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN NV/NRN AZ/UT/WRN CO/SW WY/SRN
   ID/SERN ORE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: DRY TSTMS WITH GUSTY/ERRATIC WINDS/EXTREMELY DRY
FUELS/MIN RH VALUES BELOW 15 PERCENT

BY 13/00Z...MODEL FORECASTS SUGGEST THAT STRONGEST FORCING FOR
STORMS WILL EXIST FROM ID/NERN NV THROUGH WRN WY AND THE FOUR
CORNERS REGION. FORECAST SOUNDINGS LOOK FAVORABLE FOR DRY TSTMS AS
FAR SOUTH AS EXTREME NRN AZ THROUGH THE GREAT BASIN. EXPERIMENTAL
GUIDANCE FROM THE NCEP SREF FOR A DRY TSTM INDICATES THE HIGHER
POTENTIAL ACROSS NRN NV/UT INTO SW WY. FIRE DANGER CLASS VALUES ARE
VERY HIGH OR EXTREME...SO THE POTENTIAL FOR AN IGNITION DUE TO
   LIGHTNING IS HIGH.
