   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0354 AM CDT FRI JUL 20 2007

   VALID 201200Z - 211200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MUCH OF NV...WRN UT...CNTRL AND
   SRN ID...ERN OREGON...SWRN MT...FAR NWRN WY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL REMAIN OVER THE PACIFIC NW TODAY BUT WILL BEGIN
TO LIFT OUT AS UPPER RIDGE BUILDS. THIS TROUGH WILL ENHANCE WINDS
ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN AND PACIFIC NW CREATING CRITICAL CONDITIONS
FROM NV TO MT. RIDGE AXIS WILL EXTEND FROM THE NRN HIGH PLAINS INTO
THE FOUR CORNERS STATES WITH AN EXPANSIVE AREA OF HOT AN DRY
WEATHER. ELY FLOW AROUND SRN EDGE OF UPPER RIDGE WILL ALLOW FOR
SHOWERS AND STORMS ACROSS NM/AZ WITH LOCALLY STRONG WIND GUSTS.

TO THE E...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD SWD THROUGH THE MIDWEST AND
EVENTUALLY INTO THE DEEP SOUTH BEHIND A COLD FRONT WITH LOWERING RH
VALUES BEHIND THE FRONT AND LIGHT N WINDS. VERY STRONG SLY WINDS
WILL OCCUR OVER THE NRN PLAINS IN RESPONSE TO LOWERING PRESSURE OVER
ERN MT AND THE GREAT LAKES HIGH.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MUCH OF NV...WRN UT...CNTRL AND SRN
   ID...ERN OREGON...SWRN MT...FAR NWRN WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WIND GUSTS...LOW RH...MDT TO HIGH HAINES

A VERY WARM AND DRY AIR MASS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE ACROSS THE GREAT
BASIN...AND WILL SHIFT FARTHER NWD INTO ID AND SWRN MT THIS
AFTERNOON WITH GUSTY SWLY WINDS. SUSTAINED WINDS WILL AVERAGE 15-20
MPH OVER MOST OF THE AREA WITH GUSTS OF 20-30 MPH COMMON. THE STRONG
HEATING AND DRY AIR MASS WILL RESULT IN A MDT TO HIGH HAINES INDEX
FAVORING GROWTH OF EXISTING FIRES. PRESENCE OF INCREASING WINDS WITH
HEIGHT WILL ALSO PROVIDE STRONG VENTILATION AND MASSIVE DOWNWIND
SMOKE PLUMES. INCREASED SURFACE WINDS AND LOWERED RH MAY RESULT IN
GROWTH OF LIGHTNING CAUSED FIRES FROM ERN OREGON INTO ID.

   ...SRN CA...
GUSTY WINDS WILL PREVAIL ONCE AGAIN OVER THE ANTELOPE VALLEY AND
INTO THE MOJAVE DESERT WITH SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 15-20 MPH AND GUSTS
   OVER 30 MPH.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0420 AM CDT FRI JUL 20 2007

   VALID 211200Z - 221200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD OVER THE CNTRL AND WRN U.S. WHICH
WILL MAINTAIN VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS FROM CA INTO THE NRN
PLAINS. WINDS WILL GENERALLY DECREASE OVER THE GREAT BASIN AS UPPER
TROUGH OVER THE PACIFIC NW LIFTS NWD. A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL
EXTEND FROM ERN MT SWD ALONG THE HIGH PLAINS WITH VERY HOT AND WINDY
CONDITIONS OVER THE NRN PLAINS. UPPER TROUGH OVER THE APPALACHIANS
WILL HELP PUSH A COLD FRONT SWD ALONG THE GULF COAST AND OFF THE
ATLANTIC COAST...WITH MUCH DRIER AIR WITH HIGH PRESSURE INTO THE
   DEEP SOUTH.

...GREAT BASIN INTO THE NRN ROCKIES...
VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL OVER A LARGE AREA UNDER THE
RIDGE. RH FROM THE SINGLE DIGITS TO TEENS WILL STRETCH FROM CA NEWD
ACROSS NV...UT...ID...WY AND MT. WINDS WILL BE LESS THAN ON FRIDAY
BUT WILL STILL EXCEED 15 MPH IN MANY AREAS WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THE
VERY HOT AND DRY WEATHER WILL RESULT IN FAVORABLE FIRE GROWTH
CONDITIONS FOR PLUME DOMINATED FIRES BY LATE AFTERNOON.

   ...AL INTO CAROLINAS...
IT WILL BE MUCH DRIER IN A POST FRONTAL REGIME WITH NLY WINDS NEAR
10 MPH AND MIN RH OF 30-35 PERCENT. SOME RECENT PRECIPITATION WILL
MITIGATE THE FIRE THREAT...BUT GIVEN EXTREME DROUGHT CONDITIONS IN
PLACE...FIRE THREAT WILL BE ELEVATED EVEN WITH LIGHT WINDS AND
   MARGINALLY LOW RH.

   ...NRN PLAINS...
IT WILL BE VERY WINDY AND HOT WITH STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN
HIGH TO THE E AND LEE TROUGH OVER THE HIGH PLAINS. SUSTAINED SLY
WINDS OF 20-25 MPH ARE LIKELY WITH HIGHER GUSTS. IT WILL BE VERY HOT
WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR 100 F...BUT RH IS NOT EXPECTED TO DIP TO
   CRITICAL LEVELS...AVERAGING ONLY 20-30 PERCENT.
