   WESTERN TWO-THIRDS OF THE COUNTRY...WITH VERY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS
   EXPECTED FROM THE SOUTHWEST STATES INTO THE NORTHERN PLAINS.
   FLANKING THIS RIDGE...SEVERAL LOW AMPLITUDE SHORTWAVE TROUGHS WILL
   CROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST/NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN WEST
   TODAY...WHILE EASTERN STATES UPPER TROUGH REMAINS ALONG THE
   APPALACHIANS.
   
   ...MUCH OF NV/WESTERN UT/SOUTHERN ID/WESTERN MT/WESTERN WY...
   VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL OVER A LARGE PORTION OF THE
   GREAT BASIN/NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN WEST BENEATH THE UPPER RIDGE.
   AFTERNOON RH VALUES WILL BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TO MIDDLE TEENS
   FROM CA/MUCH OF NV INTO WESTERN UT/SOUTHERN ID/WESTERN WY/WESTERN
   MT. WINDS WILL BE LESS THAN YESTERDAY...BUT WILL STILL EXCEED 15 MPH
   IN MANY AREAS WITH SOME HIGHER GUSTS. ALTHOUGH BROAD SCALE WINDS
   WILL BE LIGHTER...THE VERY HOT/DRY WEATHER WILL RESULT IN FAVORABLE
   FIRE GROWTH CONDITIONS FOR PLUME DOMINATED FIRES THIS AFTERNOON.
   
   ...DAKOTAS/NEB...
   HOT/BREEZY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS THE
   NORTHERN PLAINS TODAY IN VICINITY OF A LEE TROUGH. EAST OF THE LEE
   TROUGH...SUSTAINED SOUTHERLY WINDS OF 15-25 MPH ARE LIKELY WITH SOME
   HIGHER GUSTS. ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE WESTERN DAKOTAS...HOT
   TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB WELL THROUGH THE 90S/LOWER 100S F...WITH
   MINIMUM RH VALUES OF 20-30 PERCENT.
   
   ...NORTHERN AL/TN VALLEY INTO THE CAROLINAS...
   IN A POST FRONTAL REGIME...IT WILL BE MUCH DRIER TODAY FROM THE TN
   VALLEY INTO THE CAROLINAS AS HIGH PRESSURE SAGS SOUTHWARD TOWARD THE
   REGION. NORTHERLY WINDS WILL GENERALLY BE NEAR 10 MPH...WITH MINIMUM
   RH VALUES AS LOW AS 35 PERCENT. ALTHOUGH EXTREME DROUGHT CONDITIONS
   ARE IN PLACE IN MANY AREAS...SOME RECENT PRECIPITATION WILL MITIGATE
   THE FIRE THREAT.

   EAST...CLOSED/CUT-OFF UPPER LOW IS FORECAST TO DRIFT SOUTHWARD ALONG
   THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS.
   
   ...NV/WESTERN UT/SOUTHERN ID INTO MT/WY...
   BENEATH THE UPPER RIDGE...HOT/DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO
   PREVAIL ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN AND ADJACENT PORTIONS OF THE
   INTERMOUNTAIN REGION/NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS. GIVEN WEAK WINDS
   ALOFT...BROAD SCALE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN LIGHT...WITH
   LOCAL/TERRAIN-DRIVEN REGIMES DOMINANT. THE HOT/DRY NATURE OF THE
   AIRMASS WILL FAVOR PLUME DOMINATED FIRES...WITH POTENTIAL FOR FAST
   FIRE GROWTH OF EXISTING FIRES DURING THE AFTERNOON.
