   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0341 AM CDT FRI AUG 03 2007

   VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ERN WA/NRN ID PANHANDLE/FAR NWRN
   MT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LOW-AMPLITUDE MID-LEVEL IMPULSE /CURRENTLY OVER SERN ID PER WATER
VAPOR IMAGERY/...WILL TRACK EWD TOWARDS THE NRN PLAINS IMPINGING ON
THE PERSISTENT ROCKIES RIDGE AXIS. A HIGHER-AMPLITUDE
MID/UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH OFF THE BRITISH COLUMBIA/PACIFIC NW COAST
WILL BEGIN TO SPLIT WITH A SHORT WAVE IMPULSE GRADUALLY CROSSING
SWRN CANADA...WHILE A SECONDARY SPEED MAX DIGS SWD TOWARDS THE BASE
OF THE TROUGH OFF THE ORE COAST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ERN WA/NRN ID PANHANDLE/FAR NWRN
   MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: MODERATE WINDS / LOW RH / LONG-TERM DRYNESS

SUSTAINED WLY WINDS AROUND 20 TO 25 MPH HAVE BEEN ONGOING EARLY THIS
MORNING IMMEDIATELY E OF THE CASCADES IN S-CNTRL WA/FAR N-CNTRL ORE.
AS A LARGE-SCALE TROUGH OFF THE BRITISH COLUMBIA COAST SLOWLY
APPROACHES...EXPECT THIS TO EXPAND E/NEWD BENEATH 500 MB WINDS OF 50
TO 60 MPH THIS AFTERNOON. ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES SHOULD GENERALLY BE
SOMEWHAT COOLER THAN IN RECENT DAYS...RH VALUES SHOULD STILL DROP TO
AROUND 15 TO 20 PERCENT. GUSTY WINDS SHOULD CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF
THE EVENING/OVERNIGHT OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF NWRN MT...LIKELY
LIMITING MORE SUBSTANTIAL RH RECOVERY IN THIS REGION.

   ...NERN CA/FAR NWRN NV...
SWLY MID-LEVEL FLOW WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE TODAY AHEAD OF A
LARGE-SCALE TROUGH EVOLVING ACROSS THE PACIFIC NW. ALTHOUGH MODEL
GUIDANCE CONTINUE TO DIFFER SOMEWHAT WITH ACTUAL SPEEDS...A
MODERATELY DEEP-MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR
SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 20 MPH TOWARDS 04/00Z. DOWNSLOPE WARMING/DRYING
ADJACENT TO THE NRN SIERRAS/FAR SRN CASCADES WILL LIKELY PRODUCE LOW
RH OF 10 TO 15 PERCENT. THIS MAY RESULT IN A BRIEF DURATION OF
   CRITICAL CONDITIONS.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0457 AM CDT FRI AUG 03 2007

   VALID 041200Z - 051200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR N-CNTRL MT...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN CA / NWRN NV / EXTREME
   S-CNTRL ORE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A MID/UPPER-LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGH IS EXPECTED TO EVOLVE OUT OF A
LARGER-SCALE TROUGH OVER SWRN CANADA/NWRN CONUS. THIS FEATURE SHOULD
TRACK EWD FROM ALBERTA TO MANITOBA BY EARLY SUN. ATTENDANT MID-LEVEL
SPEED MAX WILL OVERSPREAD MUCH OF MT THROUGH SAT AFTERNOON. AT THE
SURFACE...A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE E ACROSS THE NRN ROCKIES ONTO THE
HIGH PLAINS BY SAT EVENING. FARTHER WEST...AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH
OVER THE PACIFIC NW/NRN CA WILL CONTINUE TO SLOWLY AMPLIFY SWD WITH
A BELT OF MODERATE SWLY MID-LEVEL FLOW ACROSS THE SIERRAS INTO THE
   WRN GREAT BASIN.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - N-CNTRL MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS / LOW RH / RECENT DRYNESS

AS A SURFACE COLD FRONT PASSES E OF THE AREA ON SAT MORNING...WLY
WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN BEHIND THE BOUNDARY. MODEL FORECAST SOUNDINGS
DEPICT LARGELY UNIDIRECTIONAL AND STRONG WIND PROFILES DURING THE
AFTERNOON IN THE SUBSIDENCE REGION OF A SHORT WAVE TROUGH EJECTING
ACROSS THE CANADIAN PRAIRIES. DESPITE REMNANT MONSOONAL MOISTURE
JUST SOUTH OF THE CRITICAL AREA AND EXPECTED COOLING BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT...DOWNSLOPE DRYING/WARMING OFF THE NRN ROCKIES SHOULD BE
SUFFICIENT FOR A CRITICAL THREAT. SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS WILL
LIKELY REACH 20 TO 25 MPH WITH FREQUENT GUSTS AROUND 35 MPH. WITH
TEMPERATURES INTO THE 80S...RH VALUES SHOULD DROP TO 10 TO 15
PERCENT. MODEL GUIDANCE FORECAST A SECONDARY WIND SHIFT/FRONTAL
SURGE TO OCCUR SAT EVENING. THIS SHOULD RESULT IN A RAPID WIND SHIFT
TO THE N AND SIGNIFICANT RH RECOVERY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN CA / NWRN NV / EXTREME S-CNTRL
   ORE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: MODERATE WINDS / LOW RH / SEVERE TO EXTREME
   DROUGHT

UNIDIRECTIONAL SWLY FLOW THROUGH THE ATMOSPHERIC COLUMN WILL
MAINTAIN DOWNSLOPE WARMING/DRYING ADJACENT TO THE NRN SIERRAS/FAR
SRN CASCADES. AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES SHOULD GENERALLY REACH THE
MIDDLE 80S TO MIDDLE 90S SUPPORTING WIDESPREAD MIN RH VALUES OF 10
TO 15 PERCENT. ALTHOUGH MID-LEVEL FLOW SHOULD ONLY INCREASE SLIGHTLY
FROM DAY 1...A LONGER DURATION OF SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS AROUND 20
MPH WILL SUPPORT A CRITICAL THREAT.
