   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0348 AM CDT SUN AUG 05 2007

   VALID 051200Z - 061200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NWRN NV...SERN OREGON...NERN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A VERY WARM AIR MASS WILL RESIDE ACROSS MUCH OF THE COUNTRY UNDER
BROAD UPPER RIDGE. AN UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS NRN CA
INTO THE WRN GREAT BASIN...INCREASING WINDS WITH A FEW DRY
THUNDERSTORMS. TO THE E...IT WILL BE VERY DRY ACROSS NEW ENGLAND AS
HIGH PRESSURE MOVES OUT OF THE AREA...BUT MOISTURE WILL INCREASE
OVERNIGHT WITH AN APPROACHING TROUGH. IT WILL ALSO BE VERY HOT AND
DRY OVER THE CAROLINAS AND GA...BUT WINDS WILL BE LIGHT.
ELSEWHERE...IT WILL BE HOT AND WINDY OVER THE CNTRL PLAINS UNDER
UPPER RIDGE CENTER BUT RH WILL NOT BE VERY LOW.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NWRN NV...SERN OREGON...NERN CA...

   PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY/SHIFTING WINDS...LOW RH...ISOLATED DRY
   THUNDERSTORMS

A COMPACT UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD ACROSS NRN CA INTO NWRN NV.
WINDS WILL INCREASE WITH TIME WITH SPEEDS OF 20-30 MPH LIKELY. WINDS
WILL GRADUALLY TURN SHIFT FROM SWLY TO A WLY DIRECTION WITH FRONTAL
SURGE. RH WILL REMAIN LOW WITH VALUES INTO THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS
AND LOWER TEENS. IN ADDITION...MOISTENING MID LEVELS AND COOLING
ALOFT WILL LIKELY RESULT IN A FEW DRY THUNDERSTORMS. COVERAGE IS NOT
EXPECTED TO BE MORE THAN ISOLATED...BUT ANY STRIKES WOULD HAVE A
HIGH LIKELIHOOD OF STARTING NEW FIRES.

   ...SRN CA INTO SRN NV...
UPPER TROUGH WILL PASS N OF THE AREA BUT WINDS WILL INCREASE A BIT
WHILE IT REMAINS HOT AND DRY. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE ACROSS THE
SRN CA DESERTS...WITH SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS OF 20-25 MPH. SUSTAINED
SPEEDS OF 15-20 MPH WILL BE COMMON ACROSS SRN NV INTO SWRN UT WITH
HIGHER GUSTS AS WELL. RH LEVELS WILL BE MARGINALLY LOW AT 15-20
PERCENT FROM SERN NV INTO UT...WITH VALUES OF 10-15 PERCENT SRN CA
   DESERTS.

   ...CNTRL ID INTO WRN MT...
SWLY FLOW ALOFT AND PRESENCE OF STEEP LAPSE RATES WILL AGAIN RESULT
IN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY FROM THE BITTERROOTS INTO WRN MT.
THE WRN MOST STORMS WILL LIKELY BE DRY...WITH INCREASING CHANCES OF
RAIN WITH EWD EXTENT. MIN RH WILL BE MARGINALLY LOW FROM 15-20
PERCENT. SURFACE WINDS ARE ONLY EXPECTED TO AVERAGE 10-15 MPH
   SUSTAINED...BUT HIGHER GUSTS...ESPECIALLY NEAR RIDGE TOPS...WILL
OCCUR MAINLY LATE AFTERNOON WHEN MIXING IS COMPLETE. INCREASING
WINDS AND SHEAR WITH HEIGHT SHOULD AGAIN RESULT IN EXTENSIVE SMOKE
   PLUMES.

   ...ERN GA INTO THE CAROLINAS...
IT WILL BE VERY HOT AND DRY TODAY UNDER UPPER RIDGE. HIGH
TEMPERATURES WILL BREAK 100 F IN AREAS...WITH MIN RH FROM 25-35
PERCENT. WINDS WILL BE LIGHT...BUT LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL BE
VERY STEEP...WITH MIXING HEIGHTS FORECAST TO BE 8000-9000 FT AGL.
THESE CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR STRONG VERTICAL CONVECTIVE PLUMES
   WITH ANY ONGOING FIRES.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0407 AM CDT SUN AUG 05 2007

   VALID 061200Z - 071200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL SWING EWD ACROSS ERN CANADA INTO THE NERN U.S.
BRINGING RAIN AND STORMS...WHILE HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS PERSIST FOR
MOST OF THE REST OF THE CONUS. THE EXCEPTION WILL BE OVER THE
PACIFIC NW WHERE RELATIVELY MILD CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL UNDER AN
UPPER TROUGH. LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS WILL OCCUR OVER THE GREAT BASIN
AND ALSO OVER THE PLAINS WHERE A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL DEEPEN
   DURING THE DAY.

   ...SRN CA/NV INTO SRN ID...
BROAD ZONE OF MARGINAL WINDS AND RH WILL EXIST AROUND WRN EDGE OF
UPPER RIDGE. SUSTAINED WINDS SHOULD NOT AVERAGE MORE THAN ABOUT 15
MPH...BUT GUSTS WILL BE HIGHER. RH LEVELS WILL RANGE FROM THE SINGLE
DIGITS MOJAVE DESERT TO THE MID TEENS ELSEWHERE. ALSO...ISOLATED
AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS WILL OCCUR OVER THE BITTERROOTS AND WRN MT
MAINLY OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN WITH WLY UPSLOPE FLOW.

   ...OK/TX PANHANDLES INTO SW KS...
LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN DURING THE DAY OVER THE CNTRL HIGH
PLAINS...AND WILL INDUCE STRONG SLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH FROM NW TX
ACROSS WRN OK INTO SWRN KS. OVERALL MOISTURE LEVELS REMAIN
HIGH...THUS MIN RH WILL NOT GET ANY LOWER THAN ABOUT 20-25 PERCENT.
STILL...COMBINATION OF WINDS AND HOT TEMPERATURES MAY RESULT IN A
MARGINAL FIRE THREAT IN AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN RELATIVELY DRY...NAMELY
FAR SWRN KS INTO THE NRN TX PANHANDLE.
