   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0351 AM CDT MON AUG 06 2007

   VALID 061200Z - 071200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN OREGON...CNTRL ID...SWRN
   MT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A VERY WARM AIR MASS WILL REMAIN OVER A LARGE PORTION OF THE CONUS
UNDER A BROAD UPPER RIDGE. A NEARLY STATIONARY LOW AMPLITUDE UPPER
TROUGH WILL STAY ACROSS THE PACIFIC NW...AND WILL RESULT IN LOCALLY
GUSTY WINDS IN THIS REGION AS WELL AS INTO THE GREAT BASIN. IN
ADDITION...THUNDERSTORMS...SOME DRY...WILL OCCUR FROM OREGON INTO
   MT.

ELSEWHERE...A LEE LOW WILL DEEPEN OVER WRN KS WHICH WILL INDUCE
STRONG SLY WINDS ACROSS THE SRN HIGH PLAINS WHERE IT WILL BE HOT AND
   DRY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN OREGON...CNTRL ID...SWRN MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: ISOLATED TO SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS

DAYTIME HEATING WILL COMBINE WITH COOL AIR ALOFT WITH UPPER TROUGH
TO PRODUCE SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS BY LATE AFTERNOON. AVERAGE SUB
CLOUD RH NEAR 30 PERCENT AND WEAK INSTABILITY WILL RESULT IN MAINLY
DRY THUNDERSTORMS IN A NARROW BAND FROM ERN OREGON INTO SWRN MT.
STORMS WILL CONTAIN GUSTY WINDS AS WELL. JUST SOUTH OF THE DRY
THUNDER AREA...WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL WITH RH OF 10-15
PERCENT AND LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH. THIS MAY FAN NEW FIRES
POSSIBLY STARTED FROM YESTERDAYS LIGHTNING STRIKES.

...SRN ID INTO THE GREAT BASIN AND SRN CA...
MODERATE SWLY FLOW REGIME ALOFT COUPLED WITH DEEP MIXING AND HEATING
WILL RESULT IN LOCALLY STRONG WIND GUSTS THIS AFTERNOON. SUSTAINED
WINDS SHOULD REMAIN AT OR BELOW 20 MPH...BUT GUSTS WILL EXCEED 30
MPH IN AREAS. THE WINDIEST LOCATIONS WILL BE ACROSS THE SRN CA
DESERTS INTO SRN NV/SWRN UT. RH WILL REMAIN LOW AND AVERAGE NEAR 10
   PERCENT.

...SWRN KS INTO THE OK AND NRN TX PANHANDLES...
SWLY FLOW ALOFT AND A WEAK DISTURBANCE MOVING INTO THE CNTRL PLAINS
WILL HELP PRODUCE SURFACE LOW OVER WRN KS...AND WILL TIGHTEN THE
PRESSURE GRADIENT AND RESULT IN STRONG SLY WINDS. SUSTAINED SPEEDS
OF 20-25 MPH ARE LIKELY WITH HIGHER GUSTS...WHILE TEMPERATURES RISE
TO NEAR 100 F. GIVEN HIGH LEVELS OF MOISTURE ACROSS THE SRN
PLAINS...RH LEVELS WILL ONLY DROP TO MODERATELY LOW LEVELS FROM
   20-25 PERCENT AT THE MINIMUM.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0418 AM CDT MON AUG 06 2007

   VALID 071200Z - 081200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER TROUGH OVER THE NWRN U.S. WILL BEGIN TO WEAKEN BUT STRONG
HEATING AND MIXING WILL LEAD TO A VERY LARGE AREA OF GUSTY WINDS AND
LOW HUMIDITY...FROM SRN CA ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN INTO THE NRN
ROCKIES. COOL AIR ALOFT WITH THIS TROUGH AND SWLY FLOW WILL ALSO
RESULT IN A MIXTURE OF DRY AND WET STORMS FROM N CNTRL ID INTO SWRN
MT. FARTHER N...A MORE POWERFUL TROUGH WILL BE SPREADING SEWD ACROSS
WRN CANADA...AND WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE WINDS ACROSS NWRN MT.
MEANWHILE...WARM AND WINDY WEATHER WILL PERSIST OVER THE SRN
PLAINS...WITH HOT TEMPERATURES AND ISOLATED AFTERNOON STORMS OVER
   THE SERN STATES.

   ...NWRN MT...
WLY FLOW WILL INCREASE AHEAD OF A DEVELOPING UPPER TROUGH THAT WILL
BE MOVING INTO BRITISH COLUMBIA LATE IN THE DAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN
STRONG DOWNSLOPE WINDS IN AREAS SUCH AS CUT BANK WITH SPEEDS OF
15-30 MPH. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS RH LEVELS WILL ONLY AVERAGE NEAR
20 PERCENT. HOWEVER...AREA COULD BE UPGRADED TO CRITICAL IF RH
   TRENDS LOWER.

   ...CNTRL ID INTO SWRN MT...
UPPER TROUGH WILL SHIFT ACROSS ID INTO WRN MT WITH VERY COOL
TEMPERATURES ALOFT CREATING AN UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT. SWLY UPSLOPE
FLOW AND HEATING WILL RESULT IN SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. THESE
STORMS WILL BE A MIXTURE OF DRY AND WET WITH RELATIVELY COOL SURFACE
TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S AND LOWER 80S.

   ...GREAT BASIN...
STRONG HEATING AND A VERY DRY AIR MASS...AS WELL AS A WEAK TROUGH
ALOFT WILL RESULT IN AFTERNOON GUSTY WINDS AND MARGINAL FIRE WEATHER
THREAT. SUSTAINED WINDS SHOULD AVERAGE AROUND 15 MPH WITH GUSTS TO
AROUND 30 MPH AND RH IN THE 10-15 PERCENT RANGE.

   ...SRN HIGH PLAINS...
SIMILAR CONDITIONS WILL EXIST ON TUE AS ON MON...WITH STRONG SOUTH
WINDS AND HOT WEATHER. WINDS NEAR 20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL
OCCUR BUT RH LEVELS WILL BE MARGINAL AND IN THE 20 PERCENT RANGE AT
   PEAK HEATING.
