   0354 AM CDT THU AUG 09 2007

   VALID 091200Z - 101200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY RETROGRADE WESTWARD TOWARD
THE SOUTHERN PLAINS TODAY...WITH HOT AND MAINLY DRY CONDITIONS IN
ASSOCIATION WITH THE RIDGE. FARTHER NORTH...A MODERATELY STRONG BELT
OF WESTERLIES WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER OF STATES THROUGH
THE PERIOD...EXTENDING FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST INTO THE NORTHEAST
STATES. A SHARPENING UPPER TROUGH OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST...AND A
LOW AMPLITUDE MID LEVEL IMPULSE CROSSING THE GREAT BASIN...WILL
LIKELY LEAD TO A MODEST INCREASE IN WIND SPEEDS ACROSS PORTIONS OF
THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST/GREAT BASIN VICINITY THIS AFTERNOON.

...CENTRAL/EASTERN ID AND SOUTHWEST MT/WESTERN WY...
IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE DEVELOPING UPPER TROUGH OVER THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST...STRENGTHENING FLOW ALOFT WILL LEAD TO GUSTY WINDS ACROSS
ID AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF MT/WY THIS AFTERNOON. MINIMUM RH VALUES
WILL LIKELY BE IN THE 15-20 PERCENT RANGE. IN ADDITION...SOME MAINLY
DRY THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING OVER THE
HIGHER TERRAIN OF CENTRAL ID/WESTERN MT. ALTHOUGH THESE STORMS
SHOULD REMAIN FAIRLY ISOLATED IN NATURE...GUSTY/ERRATIC WINDS WILL
   BE POSSIBLE WITH ANY STORM.

...SOUTHERN/EASTERN NV AND WESTERN UT/INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA...
   AS HOT/DRY CONDITIONS CONTINUE...TIGHTENING PRESSURE
GRADIENT/STRONGER FLOW ALOFT SHOULD RESULT IN INCREASINGLY GUSTY
WINDS THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN/EASTERN NV AND
WESTERN UT/INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA. SUSTAINED SOUTH/SOUTHWEST WINDS MAY
REACH 15-20 MPH...HOWEVER WIDESPREAD CRITICAL CONDITIONS ARE NOT
   CURRENTLY EXPECTED.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0525 AM CDT THU AUG 09 2007

   VALID 101200Z - 111200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR WESTERN/CENTRAL MT...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR EASTERN WY/FAR SOUTHEAST
   MT/WESTERN SD...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
PROMINENT UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS ON
FRIDAY...WITH HOT/MAINLY DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS A LARGE PART OF THE
SOUTHERN CONUS. AN ACTIVE BELT OF WESTERLIES WILL PREVAIL ACROSS THE
NORTHERN TIER OF STATES...WITH PRIMARY FEATURE OF NOTE BEING A
SHORTWAVE TROUGH THAT IS FORECAST TO CROSS THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST/NORTHERN ROCKIES. THIS SYSTEM WILL LEAD TO GUSTY WINDS AND
AN ELEVATED FIRE DANGER ACROSS A LARGE PORTION OF THE NORTHERN
   ROCKIES/NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - WESTERN/CENTRAL MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WESTERLY WINDS AND COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE

PRONOUNCED SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL CROSS THE NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN
REGION ON FRIDAY...WITH AN INCREASE IN WESTERLY WINDS ACROSS MUCH OF
WESTERN/CENTRAL MT AS A COLD FRONT ADVANCES EASTWARD. IN ADDITION TO
THE STRONG/GUSTY WINDS...ISOLATED TO SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS ARE
   POSSIBLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING...ESPECIALLY ACROSS
SOUTHWEST/CENTRAL MT. THESE STORMS COULD YIELD SOME NEW FIRE
STARTS...ALONG WITH POTENTIALLY ERRATIC WINDS VIA THUNDERSTORM
   DOWNDRAFTS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - EASTERN WY/FAR SOUTHEAST MT/WESTERN
   SD...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS AND VERY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS

WITH APPROACHING UPSTREAM SHORTWAVE TROUGH...LOW PRESSURE/LEE TROUGH
IS FORECAST TO DEEPEN ACROSS THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS ON FRIDAY. A
HOT/DEEPLY MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER WILL EXIST WEST OF THE LEE TROUGH
ACROSS MUCH OF EASTERN WY/FAR SOUTHEAST MT AND THE BLACK HILLS
VICINITY OF WESTERN SD...WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER
90S/LOWER 100S. FAVORABLE MIXING AND MODERATELY STRONG WIND FIELDS
ATOP THE BOUNDARY LAYER MAY YIELD SUSTAINED WINDS AS HIGH AS 20
   MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.

   ...EASTERN ID/WESTERN WY...
AMPLE MIXING AND MODERATELY STRONG WEST-SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WILL
LEAD TO NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS MUCH OF EASTERN
ID AND WESTERN WY FRIDAY AFTERNOON. ALTHOUGH RH VALUES MAY TEND TO
BE MARGINAL...BROAD SCALE WINDS OF 15-25 MPH /WITH HIGHER GUSTS/
WILL RESULT IN A HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER.

   ...NV/WESTERN UT...
SIMILAR TO THURSDAY...GUSTY WINDS ARE AGAIN EXPECTED FRIDAY
AFTERNOON ACROSS THE EASTERN GREAT BASIN...ALTHOUGH WITH HOT/DRY
CONDITIONS AND RH VALUES AS LOW AS 8-12 PERCENT. SUSTAINED WINDS MAY
AGAIN REACH 15-20 MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
