   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0359 AM CDT FRI AUG 10 2007

   VALID 101200Z - 111200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR WESTERN/CENTRAL MT...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR EASTERN WY/FAR SOUTHEAST
   MT/WESTERN SD/NEB PANHANDLE...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR EASTERN ID/FAR NORTHERN UT AND
   WESTERN/CENTRAL WY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
HOT/MAINLY DRY CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN PREVALENT ACROSS A LARGE
PORTION OF THE SOUTHERN U.S. AS EXPANSIVE UPPER RIDGE CONTINUES TO
BE CENTERED OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. WITHIN A MODERATELY STRONG
BELT OF WESTERLIES ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER OF STATES...A SHORTWAVE
TROUGH WILL SPREAD EASTWARD FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ACROSS THE
NORTHERN ROCKIES. ALONG WITH WARM TEMPERATURES...GUSTY WINDS IN
ASSOCIATION WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL LEAD TO A HEIGHTENED FIRE WEATHER
DANGER ACROSS A LARGE PORTION OF THE NORTHERN ROCKIES AND NORTHERN
   HIGH PLAINS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - WESTERN/CENTRAL MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WESTERLY WINDS AND COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE

WITH A SHORTWAVE TROUGH AND ATTENDANT COLD FRONT CROSSING THE
NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN REGION THIS AFTERNOON...AN INCREASE IN
WESTERLY WINDS IS EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF WESTERN/CENTRAL MT. WHILE
RH VALUES MAY TEND TO BE MARGINAL...THE STRONG/GUSTY WINDS AND
POTENTIAL WIND SHIFT ARE SUGGESTIVE OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS. SUSTAINED WESTERLY WINDS MAY REACH 20-25
MPH...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE EAST SLOPES OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE
FROM NORTHWEST INTO NORTH CENTRAL MT. IN ADDITION...ISOLATED TO
SCATTERED MAINLY DRY THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THIS
   AFTERNOON/EVENING...ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTHWEST/CENTRAL MT. THESE
STORMS COULD YIELD SOME NEW FIRE STARTS...ALONG WITH POTENTIALLY
   ERRATIC WINDS VIA THUNDERSTORM DOWNDRAFTS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - EASTERN WY/FAR SOUTHEAST MT/WESTERN
   SD/NEB PANHANDLE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS AND VERY HOT/DRY CONDITIONS

WITH THE APPROACHING UPSTREAM SHORTWAVE TROUGH...LOW PRESSURE/LEE
TROUGH IS FORECAST TO DEEPEN ACROSS THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS ON
TODAY. WEST OF THE SURFACE TROUGH...A HOT/DEEPLY MIXED BOUNDARY
LAYER WILL EXIST ACROSS MUCH OF EASTERN WY/SOUTHEAST MT/WESTERN SD
AND NEB PANHANDLE. HIGH TEMPERATURES SHOULD GENERALLY REACH THE
UPPER 90S OR LOWER 100S. AN INCREASING PRESSURE GRADIENT AND
MODERATELY STRONG WINDS ATOP A DEEPLY MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER WILL
RESULT IN SUSTAINED WINDS AS HIGH AS 20 MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - EASTERN ID/FAR NORTHERN UT AND
   WESTERN/CENTRAL WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG/GUSTY WINDS AND WARM TEMPERATURES/LOW RH

AMPLE HEATING/MIXING AND MODERATELY STRONG WEST-SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT
WILL LEAD TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS MUCH OF EASTERN
ID/FAR NORTHERN UT AND WESTERN/CENTRAL WY THIS AFTERNOON. CRITICALLY
LOW RH VALUES AND BROAD SCALE WINDS OF 20-25 MPH /WITH HIGHER GUSTS/
   ARE EXPECTED.

   ...EASTERN NV/WESTERN UT...
SIMILAR TO THURSDAY...GUSTY WINDS ARE AGAIN EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON
ACROSS THE EASTERN GREAT BASIN. SUSTAINED WINDS MAY AGAIN REACH 20
MPH...WITH SOME HIGHER GUSTS. HOT/DRY CONDITIONS WILL
CONTINUE...WITH AFTERNOON RH VALUES AS LOW AS 8-12 PERCENT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0508 AM CDT FRI AUG 10 2007

   VALID 111200Z - 121200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
PROMINENT/BROAD UPPER RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO PREVAIL ACROSS MUCH OF
THE SOUTHERN STATES ON SATURDAY. AMPLIFICATION OF THE RIDGE IS
LIKELY ACROSS THE NORTHERN ROCKIES IN THE WAKE OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH
SKIRTING EASTWARD ACROSS ND/MANITOBA INTO NORTHERN MN/ONTARIO.
ALTHOUGH EXPECTED TO BE SOMEWHAT SUBDUED FROM DAY 1...GUSTY WINDS
WILL REMAIN ACROSS MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN/NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN
   WEST ON SATURDAY.

...SOUTHERN ID/WESTERN WY AND MUCH OF NV/UT...
IN THE WAKE OF THE SHORTWAVE TROUGH CROSSING THE NORTHERN
INTERMOUNTAIN WEST ON DAY 1/FRIDAY...WIND SPEEDS SHOULD BE SOMEWHAT
LIGHTER ACROSS PORTIONS OF ID/WY/NV/UT. NEVERTHELESS...LOCALLY GUSTY
WINDS AND HOT/DRY CONDITIONS WILL STILL YIELD AN ELEVATED FIRE
DANGER. IN ADDITION...A WESTWARD PUSH OF MONSOONAL MOISTURE MAY
ALLOW FOR SOME DRY THUNDERSTORMS INTO PORTIONS OF UT AND SOUTHERN
NV...HOWEVER STORM COVERAGE SHOULD REMAIN RATHER LIMITED.

   ...ND...
WEST-NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE ACROSS ND SATURDAY AFTERNOON
WITHIN THE POST-COLD FRONTAL REGIME, SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS WILL
GENERALLY BE IN THE 15-20 MPH RANGE. HOWEVER...NEGATING FACTORS FOR
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE MARGINAL RH VALUES AND RECENT
   PRECIPITATION.
