   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0338 AM CDT TUE AUG 14 2007

   VALID 141200Z - 151200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN IN CONTROL OF THE UPPER LEVEL PATTERN
ACROSS THE NATION TODAY. WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL BE
PREVALENT FROM THE SOUTHWEST THROUGH THE SRN/CENTRAL PLAINS INTO THE
SE STATES AS A RESULT OF THE UPPER RIDGE. MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL
BEGIN TO MOVE NWWD AROUND THE UPPER RIDGE AS IT WEAKENS AND MOVES
EAST AWAY FROM THE GREAT BASIN. THE RESULT WILL BE ISOLATED DRY
TSTMS OVER THE HIGH DESERT REGION OF SERN CA AND THE SRN GREAT
BASIN. ALTHOUGH AFTERNOON WINDS WILL BE BREEZY AT TIMES ACROSS THE
WRN AND NRN GREAT BASIN/NRN ROCKIES...WIND SPEEDS SHOULD REMAIN
BELOW CRITICAL LEVELS. MODERATE SLY WINDS/LOW RH READINGS IN THE
CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS TODAY WILL SUPPORT NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
   CONDITIONS.

...SRN/ERN GREAT BASIN/HIGH DESERT OF SERN CA...
ISOLATED TO WIDELY SCT TSTMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP TODAY AS MID
LEVEL MOISTURE MOVES N-NWWD INTO THE AREA FROM AZ SUPPORTED BY A EWD
MOVEMENT OF THE UPPER RIDGE AXIS AWAY FROM THE REGION. VERY DRY
BOUNDARY LAYER AND MINIMAL MOISTENING OF THE LOW LEVELS WILL SUPPORT
AT LEAST SOME DRY TSTM POTENTIAL. LACK OF A ORGANIZED FORCING
MECHANISM SHOULD PRECLUDE GREATER DRY TSTM COVERAGE AND A CRITICAL
   FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   ...SRN/CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS...
ANOTHER DAY OF ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FROM 100-105 F WILL OCCUR
TODAY. LOW DEWPTS IN THE 40S WILL SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS AROUND 15
PERCENT. MODEST SLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WILL OCCUR DURING THE
AFTERNOON IN RESPONSE TO A MODERATE PRESSURE GRADIENT SOUTH OF AN
AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OVER ERN NEB.

...TN VALLEY EWD INTO THE CAROLINAS...
AN AXIS OF LOW DEWPTS IN THE 50S COMBINED WITH WELL ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES IN THE 100-105 F RANGE WILL PRODUCE MIN RH READINGS
FROM 20-25 PERCENT. SUSTAINED WINDS SHOULD AVERAGE FROM 5-10 MPH
PRECLUDING A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0341 AM CDT TUE AUG 14 2007

   VALID 151200Z - 161200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MODERATE WINDS/LOW RH READINGS
OVER NRN CA/SRN ORE AND NWRN NV...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SCT DRY TSTMS OVER PORTIONS OF THE
   NRN GREAT BASIN/INTERIOR PAC NW...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE CENTRAL STATES WILL CONTINUE TO SLOWLY
WEAKEN TOMORROW. AN UPPER TROUGH OFF THE PAC NW COAST WILL BEGIN TO
MOVE EWD...SUPPORTING INCREASING SWLY WINDS OVER NRN CA/SRN ORE AND
NWRN NV. ALONG WITH LOW RH READINGS...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT
WILL EXIST IN THIS AREA. IN ADDITION TO THE INCREASING WINDS...MID
LEVEL MOISTURE WILL MOVE INTO THE NRN GREAT BASIN AND INTERIOR PAC
NW AHEAD OF THE UPPER TROUGH SUPPORTING A CRITICAL DRY TSTMS THREAT.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE NATION...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES/LOW RH
READINGS WILL CONTINUE FROM THE CENTRAL/SRN PLAINS EWD INTO THE SERN
   STATES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN CA...NWRN NV AND SRN ORE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS FROM 15-25 MPH...MIN RH
READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT...LONG TERM DROUGHT

AHEAD OF AN UPPER TROUGH PROGRESSING TOWARDS THE PAC NW COAST...MID
LEVEL WIND FIELDS WILL STRENGTHEN OVER THE AREA TOMORROW. COMBINED
WITH A DEEPENING AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OVER ERN ORE...SFC WINDS WILL
INCREASE TO ABOVE 20 MPH BY THE AFTERNOON OVER THE NRN SACRAMENTO
VALLEY NEWD INTO THE NWRN GREAT BASIN. THE STRONGEST WIND GUSTS OVER
25 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR OVER THE NRN SIERRA NEVADA FRONT RANGE
AND HIGH DESERT REGION OF FAR NERN CA/NWRN NV AND SERN ORE WHERE THE
STEEPEST LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES SHOULD EXIST. LOW RH READINGS FROM
10-15 PERCENT ALONG WITH THESE WINDS WILL SUPPORT A CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER THREAT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - FOR DRY TSTMS FAR NERN CA...ERN
   ORE...WRN ID AND NRN NV...

   PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SCT DRY TSTMS

ASSOCIATED WITH THE APPROACH OF THE AFOREMENTIONED UPPER
TROUGH...SUFFICIENT MID LEVEL MOISTURE ADVECTION FROM THE SRN GREAT
BASIN COUPLED WITH INCREASING VERTICAL MOTION AND MID LEVEL COOLING
SHOULD SUPPORT SCT TSTMS FROM THE NRN SIERRA NEVADA NEWD INTO THE
NRN GREAT BASIN. VERY WARM/DRY BOUNDARY LAYERS AND MINIMAL PW
/AROUND 0.60 INCH/ SHOULD FAVOR MAINLY DRY TSTMS CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING FIRE STARTS AND GUSTY/ERRATIC WINDS.

   ...ERN/SRN GREAT BASIN...
ISOLATED DRY TSTMS WILL BE POSSIBLE AGAIN TOMORROW AFTERNOON..BUT
LACK OF ANY FORCING MECHANISM WILL PRECLUDE GREATER TSTM COVERAGE
AND A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   ...SRN/CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS...
SOUTH OF A COLD FRONT...GUSTY SLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH COMBINED WITH
HOT TEMPERATURES FROM 100-105 F AND MIN RH READINGS AROUND 15
PERCENT WILL SUPPORT NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

   ...SERN STATES...
ANOTHER DAY OF HOT TEMPERATURES FROM 100-105 F WILL OCCUR OVER MUCH
OF THE TN VALLEY EWD INTO THE CAROLINAS. RELATIVELY LOW DEWPTS WILL
AGAIN SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS FROM 20-25 PERCENT. LACK OF STRONGER
SFC WINDS WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
