   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0335 AM CDT THU AUG 23 2007

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ERN NV...CNTRL AND SRN UT...SWRN
   CO...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A BROAD LOW AMPLITUDE UPPER TROUGH WILL EXTEND FROM THE GREAT BASIN
EWD INTO THE NRN PLAINS WHILE UPPER RIDGE CENTER HOLDS ACROSS THE
LOWER MS VALLEY AND ANOTHER RIDGE BEGINS TO BUILD ALONG THE W COAST.
VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE SW...WITH
SCATTERED STORMS...SOME DRY...ALONG A WEAK SURFACE FRONT FROM ERN NV
ACROSS UT AND INTO SRN CO. VERY WARM AND WINDY CONDITIONS WILL
DEVELOP OVER THE SRN HIGH PLAINS AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS ACROSS WRN
   KS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ERN NV...CNTRL AND SRN UT...SWRN
   CO...

   PRIMARY CONDITIONS: DRY THUNDERSTORMS

LIFT ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER DISTURBANCE WILL HELP PRODUCE
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE ERN GREAT BASIN. THE STORMS WILL BE FOCUSED
ALONG A WEAK COLD FRONT WHICH WILL LIE FROM E CNTRL NV ACROSS CNTRL
UT. RH LEVELS WILL BE LOWEST MAINLY SOUTH OF THE FRONT WITH VALUES
NEAR 15 PERCENT. THUS...DRY STORMS ARE EXPECTED WITH THREAT OF NEW
FIRE STARTS. IN ADDITION...SWLY WINDS NEAR 15 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH
   HIGHER GUSTS.

...LOWER MS VALLEY REGION AND GULF COAST STATES...
PRESENCE OF UPPER RIDGE WILL RESULT IN VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS
WITH TEMPERATURES OVER 100 F AND MIN RH FALLING INTO THE 20-30
PERCENT RANGE. WINDS WILL BE LIGHT...BUT A VERY DEEP AND UNSTABLE
BOUNDARY LAYER WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR FIRE GROWTH.

   ...SRN CA...SRN NV...WRN AZ...
WINDS WILL INCREASE A BIT TODAY WITH UPPER TROUGH NEARING. SUSTAINED
SWLY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH WILL BE COMMON WITH GUSTS AROUND 30 MPH. RH
VALUES WILL ONLY BE MARGINALLY LOW OVER MOST OF AZ...FROM 15-25
PERCENT DUE TO MOISTURE AND STORMS. THE DRIEST AREAS WILL BE FROM
SRN NV INTO SRN CA WITH 10-15 PERCENT RH AND NO STORMS.

   ...SWRN KS...OK PANHANDLE...NRN TX PANHANDLE...
IT WILL BECOME VERY WINDY TODAY AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER WRN KS
WITH SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS NEAR 3O MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. GIVEN
AMBIENT MOIST CONDITIONS...RH WILL ONLY DROP TO NEAR 30 PERCENT AT
PEAK HEATING. STILL...THESE AREAS HAVE BEEN RELATIVELY DRY AND A
MARGINAL FIRE THREAT WILL EXIST THIS AFTERNOON.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0348 AM CDT THU AUG 23 2007

   VALID 241200Z - 251200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER RIDGE WILL BUILD ACROSS THE WRN STATES AS UPPER TROUGH AXIS
MOVES E INTO THE CNTRL/NRN PLAINS. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR A RETURN OF
WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER INTO THE PACIFIC NW. VERY WARM AND DRY
CONDITIONS WILL ALSO EXIST ACROSS THE MID AND LOWER MS VALLEY SOUTH
OF A COLD FRONT EXTENDING FROM NRN IL INTO KS.

   ...SRN IL...SERN MO...WRN KY/TN...AR...
SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT WILL EXTEND
ACROSS NRN IL INTO NRN MO AND KS. SPEEDS AROUND 15 MPH WILL BE
COMMON WITH HIGHER GUSTS. IT WILL BE HOT WITH RIDGE ALOFT...AND RH
WILL DROP INTO THE 25-30 PERCENT RANGE AT PEAK HEATING. THIS WILL
RESULT IN INCREASED FIRE DANGER GIVEN DROUGHT CONDITIONS IN PLACE.

...SRN OR/ID ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN INTO CA...
BUILDING UPPER RIDGE WILL BRING WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER TO THE AREA
WITH WIDESPREAD MDT HAINES INDEX AND LOCALLY GUSTY AFTERNOON WINDS.
