   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0403 AM CDT SUN SEP 02 2007

   VALID 021200Z - 031200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CNTRL IDAHO AND SWRN MONTANA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER PATTERN AMPLIFIES TODAY AS THE WRN U.S. UPPER RIDGE SHIFTS
NWD TOWARD CNTRL UT AND A TROUGH DEEPENS OVER THE ERN PACIFIC. SWLY
FLOW WILL INCREASE FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THROUGH THE NRN
ROCKIES...RESULTING IN BREEZY AND DRY CONDITIONS FROM NRN CA TO THE
NRN ROCKIES. FARTHER EAST...THE WESTERLIES ARE CONFINED TO THE NRN
TIER WITH A BROAD AREA OF SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE FROM THE CNTRL U.S.
TO NEW ENGLAND. MOISTURE CONTINUES TO CIRCULATE AROUND THE WESTERN
RIDGE...WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED FROM THE SOUTHWEST
THROUGH THE CNTRL ROCKIES. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL ALSO OCCUR
IN THE SOUTHEAST THROUGH ERN TX...WHILE MOST OF THE CNTRL AND
   NORTHEAST REMAINS DRY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CNTRL ID/SWRN MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY

AS THE PATTERN AMPLIFIES TODAY MID/UPPER LEVEL SOUTHWEST WINDS
INCREASE FROM NRN CA TO MT. TEMPERATURES WILL BE WARM UNDER
CLEAR/SUNNY SKIES. THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DEEP AND WELL MIXED
AFTERNOON BOUNDARY LAYER WILL PRODUCE GUSTY SOUTHWEST SURFACE WINDS
/15 TO 25 MPH/ AND MINIMUM RH AROUND 15%. THE COMBINATION OF RH IN
THE TEENS AND SURFACE WINDS GUSTING ABOVE 25 MPH IS SUFFICIENT FOR
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON UNTIL EARLY THIS
   EVENING.

   ...NERN CA/SERN ORE...
A SIMILAR SCENARIO IS EXPECTED SOUTHWEST OF THE CRITICAL AREA
EXTENDING FROM SERN ORE TO NERN CA. THE AIRMASS WILL BE WARM AND
VERY DRY /MINIMUM RH 10 TO 15%/...AS GUSTY AFTERNOON WINDS /10 TO 20
   MPH/ APPROACH CRITICAL THRESHOLDS.

   ...UTAH...
SUBSTANTIAL MOISTURE REMAINS TRAPPED BENEATH THE UPPER RIDGE
BUILDING NWD INTO CNTRL UT TODAY. DIURNAL THUNDERSTORMS WILL AGAIN
OCCUR THROUGHOUT MUCH OF THE SOUTHWEST...WITH ISOLATED DRY
THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE IN THE ERN GREAT BASIN AND UT. THUNDERSTORMS
WILL PREDOMINANTLY OCCUR NEAR THE ELEVATED TERRAIN...AND COMBINED
WITH MARGINAL MOISTURE PROFILES FOR DRY LIGHTNING...AN
ORGANIZED/WIDESPREAD AREA OF DRY THUNDERSTORMS IS NOT EXPECTED.

   VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN CALIFORNIA TO SWRN MONTANA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER PATTERN OVER THE WRN U.S. CONTINUES TO AMPLIFY MONDAY...AS
A TROUGH OVER THE ERN PACIFIC DEEPENS AND AN UPPER RIDGE OVER UT
BUILDS NEWD TOWARD THE NRN ROCKIES. SHOWERS BEGIN TO SPREAD INLAND
ALONG THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST...WHILE BREEZY/WINDY AND DRY
CONDITIONS DEVELOP FROM NERN CA TO SWRN MT. IN THE EAST...AN UPPER
TROUGH MOVES INTO QUEBEC AS A SURFACE COLD FRONT APPROACHES NEW
ENGLAND. DRY AND BREEZY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED PRIOR TO THE ARRIVAL
OF THE COLD FRONT. MOISTURE CIRCULATING BENEATH THE WRN U.S. RIDGE
WILL KEEP SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST AND
SOUTHWEST...AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO EXPECTED ALONG THE GULF COAST
   AND SOUTHEAST.

   ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN CA/NWRN NV/SERN OR/CNTRL
   ID/EXTREME SWRN MT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY

A FALL-LIKE UPPER TROUGH WILL APPROACH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST
LATE MONDAY...BRINGING STRONG SWLY FLOW FROM NRN CA THROUGH WRN MT.
A ZONE OF WARM TEMPERATURES...MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES...AND GUSTY WINDS
IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP MONDAY AFTERNOON...EXCEEDING CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER THRESHOLDS FROM NERN MT THROUGH FAR SWRN MT. A PERIOD OF
MINIMUM RH IN THE 10 TO 15% RANGE AND WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH /GUSTING
TO 30 MPH/ IS LIKELY IN THE CRITICAL AREA.

   ...UTAH...
DIURNAL THUNDERSTORMS ARE AGAIN EXPECTED AS MOISTURE REMAINS TRAPPED
BENEATH THE UPPER RIDGE. ONCE AGAIN...A FEW DRY THUNDERSTORMS ARE
POSSIBLE OVER PORTIONS OF THE ERN GREAT BASIN AND UT.

   ...PA TO NEW ENGLAND...
AS A COLD FRONT APPROACHES THE AREA...BREEZY SWLY SFC WINDS /15 TO
20 MPH/ AND MARGINALLY LOW RH /30 TO 35%/ ALLOW CONDITIONS TO
APPROACH CRITICAL THRESHOLDS FOR A SHORT PERIOD MONDAY AFTERNOON.
