   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0344 AM CDT THU SEP 13 2007

   VALID 131200Z - 141200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CA SIERRA/CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN NV
   INTO WESTERN/SOUTHERN UT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER TROUGH WILL DECELERATE/AMPLIFY OVER THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND
CENTRAL CANADIAN PROVINCES TODAY. A PERSISTENT UPPER LOW WILL MOVE
SLOWLY TOWARD THE NORTHERN CA/ORE COAST...LEADING TO GUSTY WINDS
ACROSS MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN/SIERRA...IN ADDITION TO SOME
THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTHERN CA/SOUTHWEST ORE CASCADES. HOT
TEMPERATURES/LOW RH VALUES WILL PERSIST ACROSS SOUTHERN CA. FARTHER
NORTH/EAST...IN THE WAKE OF YESTERDAYS COLD FRONT...HIGH PRESSURE
WILL USHER A MUCH COOLER AIRMASS SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE NORTHERN
ROCKIES AND NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS. THE EAST-SOUTHEAST ADVANCING COLD
FRONT WILL BE THE PRIMARY FOCUS FOR SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE
UPPER MIDWEST/CENTRAL PLAINS...WITH RAIN ALSO COMMON ACROSS MUCH OF
   THE GULF COAST STATES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CA SIERRA/CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN NV
   INTO WESTERN/SOUTHERN UT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS AND WARM TEMPERATURES/LOW RH

UPPER LOW WILL GRADUALLY NEAR THE NORTHERN CA/ORE COAST TODAY. ON
THE SOUTHERN PERIPHERY OF THIS FEATURE...A MODERATE BELT OF
SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT WILL OVERSPREAD THE SIERRA MOUNTAINS AND
MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN. ALONG WITH WARM TEMPERATURES/DEEP BOUNDARY
LAYER MIXING AND CRITICALLY LOW AFTERNOON RH VALUES...SUSTAINED
SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS OF 15-25 MPH /WITH HIGHER GUSTS/ WILL LEAD TO A
HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER FROM THE CA SIERRA INTO WESTERN/SOUTHERN UT.

   ...NORTHERN CA/SOUTHWEST ORE CASCADES...
AS THE UPPER LOW NEARS THE COAST...IT APPEARS SUFFICIENT LIFT/MID
LEVEL MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY WILL BE IN PLACE FOR ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING ACROSS NORTHERN CA/SOUTHWEST
ORE CASCADES VICINITY. THESE STORMS SHOULD BE MAINLY DRY...AND
ALTHOUGH A FEW NEW FIRE STARTS ARE POSSIBLE...EXPECTED LIMITED
COVERAGE PRECLUDES A SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORM RISK.

   ...SOUTHERN WY/NORTHERN UT/WESTERN CO...
A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL STALL ACROSS ID/WY TODAY...WITH THE
POTENTIAL FOR STRONG WIND GUSTS REMAINING ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHERN
WY INTO NORTHERN UT/WESTERN CO AS THE TRAILING PORTION OF A POTENT
UPPER JET REMAINS OVERHEAD. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF 20-25 MPH /WITH
SOME HIGHER GUSTS/ ARE POSSIBLE. IN SPITE OF THE STRONG/GUSTY
WINDS...MARGINAL RH VALUES/FUELS SHOULD TEMPER THE FIRE WEATHER
   POTENTIAL.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0347 AM CDT THU SEP 13 2007

   VALID 141200Z - 151200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA/CENTRAL AND
   SOUTHERN NV INTO WESTERN/SOUTHERN UT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
EMBEDDED WITH A LONGWAVE UPPER TROUGH OVER EASTERN NORTH
AMERICA...UPPER TROUGH WILL SWEEP EASTWARD OVER THE GREAT LAKES
REGION ON FRIDAY...DRIVING A COLD FRONT EAST-SOUTHEASTWARD OVER THE
GREAT LAKES/OHIO VALLEY. IN THE WEST...UPPER LOW WILL REMAIN
QUASI-STATIONARY OVER THE NORTHERN CA/ORE COAST. ISOLATED MAINLY DRY
THUNDERSTORMS WILL AGAIN BE POSSIBLE ACROSS NORTHERN CA/ORE CASCADES
FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...AS WELL AS THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE
VICINITY FROM CENTRAL ID/SOUTHWEST MT INTO WESTERN WY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA/CENTRAL AND
   SOUTHERN NV INTO WESTERN/SOUTHERN UT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG/GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RH/WARM TEMPERATURES

WITH UPPER LOW FORECAST TO REMAIN CENTERED ALONG THE NORTHERN CA/ORE
COAST...A RELATIVELY SIMILAR SCENARIO FROM DAY 1 WILL CONTINUE INTO
FRIDAY FROM NEAR THE SOUTHERN CA SIERRA/INTERIOR DESERTS INTO MUCH
OF THE SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN. OF NOTE...LATEST FORECAST GUIDANCE
SUGGESTS A STRONGER MID LEVEL JET /50+ KT/ WILL OVERSPREAD THE
REGION DURING THE DAY...WHICH WOULD LEAD TO A MODEST INCREASE IN
WIND SPEEDS FRIDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING AS COMPARED TO DAY 1/THURSDAY.
SUSTAINED SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH APPEAR LIKELY...WITH
GUSTS TO 40-45 MPH POSSIBLE IN SOME LOCALES. OTHERWISE...WARM
TEMPERATURES/CRITICALLY LOW RH VALUES ARE EXPECTED AHEAD OF A COLD
FRONT SLOWLY MOVING EASTWARD ACROSS NV.

   ...ORE CASCADES/NORTHERN CA...
SIMILAR TO DAY 1...POTENTIAL WILL AGAIN EXIST FOR ISOLATED MAINLY
DRY THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE ORE CASCADES/NORTHERN CA. REGION MAY
WARRANT A DRY THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK IF A GREATER COVERAGE BECOMES
APPARENT...ALTHOUGH SOME NEW FIRE STARTS WILL BE POSSIBLE
   REGARDLESS.
