   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0331 AM CDT FRI SEP 14 2007

   VALID 141200Z - 151200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA/CENTRAL AND
SOUTHERN NV INTO WESTERN/CENTRAL UT AND NORTHWEST AZ...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AS A LONGWAVE UPPER TROUGH PERSISTS OVER MUCH OF CANADA AND THE
NORTHEAST STATES...AN EMBEDDED UPPER TROUGH WILL SWEEP EASTWARD OVER
THE GREAT LAKES REGION TODAY...DRIVING A COLD FRONT
EAST-SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES/OHIO VALLEY. IN THE
WEST...UPPER LOW WILL REMAIN QUASI-STATIONARY OVER THE NORTHERN
CA/ORE COAST. WARM TEMPERATURES/VERY LOW RH VALUES WILL CONTINUE
ACROSS SOUTHERN CA. ISOLATED MAINLY DRY THUNDERSTORMS WILL AGAIN BE
POSSIBLE ACROSS NORTHERN CA/ORE CASCADES THIS AFTERNOON/EARLY
   EVENING.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INTERIOR SOUTHERN CA/CENTRAL AND
SOUTHERN NV INTO WESTERN/CENTRAL UT AND NORTHWEST AZ...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG/GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RH/WARM TEMPERATURES

A RELATIVELY SIMILAR SCENARIO FROM THURSDAY WILL CONTINUE TODAY FROM
THE LEE OF THE SOUTHERN CA SIERRA MOUNTAINS/INTERIOR DESERTS INTO
MUCH OF THE SOUTHERN/EASTERN GREAT BASIN. AS COMPARED TO
YESTERDAY...A SOMEWHAT STRONGER MID LEVEL JET /50+ KT/ WILL
OVERSPREAD THE REGION DURING THE DAY. SUSTAINED SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS
OF 20-30 MPH ARE LIKELY THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING...WITH GUSTS TO 40-45
MPH POSSIBLE IN SOME LOCALES. AIDED BY DOWNSLOPE OFF OF THE SIERRA
MOUNTAINS...WARM TEMPERATURES/CRITICALLY LOW RH VALUES CAN BE
EXPECTED. IN ADDITION...SUFFICIENT MID LEVEL MOISTURE/INSTABILITY
WILL BE IN PLACE FOR ISOLATED MAINLY DRY THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS
PORTIONS OF UT...WHICH COULD LEAD TO SOME NEW FIRE STARTS.

   ...ORE CASCADES/NORTHERN CA...
GIVEN THE PROXIMITY OF THE UPPER LOW...THE POTENTIAL WILL AGAIN
EXIST FOR ISOLATED MAINLY DRY THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON/EARLY
EVENING ACROSS THE ORE CASCADES/NORTHERN CA. ALTHOUGH COVERAGE
SHOULD REMAIN LIMITED...SOME NEW FIRE STARTS WILL BE POSSIBLE
   REGARDLESS.
