   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0324 AM CDT SAT SEP 22 2007

   VALID 221200Z - 231200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF CNTRL/ERN WY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
CLOSED UPPER-LEVEL LOW OFF THE SRN CA COAST WILL BEGIN TO ACCELERATE
NEWD AS AN OPEN WAVE THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT AS A SHORT WAVE
TROUGH OVER BRITISH COLUMBIA DIGS SEWD. THIS PROCESS WILL RESULT IN
AN EXPANSIVE TROUGH ENCOMPASSING THE WRN CONUS BY SUNDAY
MORNING...WITH DOWNSTREAM RIDGING BUILDING NWD ACROSS THE UPPER MS
RIVER VALLEY/GREAT LAKES. WARM/DRY CONDITIONS SHOULD BE CONFINED TO
THE NRN HIGH PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF CNTRL/ERN WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / LONG-TERM DRYNESS

A RELATIVELY SMALL AREA OF CRITICAL CONDITIONS SHOULD DEVELOP BY
LATE AFTERNOON AS SWLY LOW/MID-LEVEL FLOW STRENGTHENS IN CONJUCTION
WITH AN ANTECEDENT DRY AIR MASS ALONG THE LEE OF THE NRN ROCKIES.
22/00Z RAOBS FROM RIW AND RAP INDICATED PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES
AROUND 0.20 TO 0.30 INCHES. GPS PRECIPITABLE WATER ESTIMATES HAVE
DEPICTED A SLOW UPWARD TREND OVER THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS AND THIS
OUGHT TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE REST OF THE PERIOD.
NEVERTHELESS...MODERATE TO STRONG SWLY FLOW THROUGHOUT THE
ATMOSPHERIC COLUMN WILL CONTRIBUTE TO SUBSTANTIALLY WARMER
TEMPERATURES COMPARED TO FRIDAY...MITIGATING EFFECTS OF MOISTURE
INFLUX. AT PEAK HEATING...RH VALUES SHOULD DROP TO AROUND 10 PERCENT
   IN NERN WY...WITH MORE MARGINAL VALUES /NEAR 15 PERCENT/ IN S-CNTRL
WY. SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS SHOULD REACH 20 MPH IN NERN WY...WHILE
25 TO 30 MPH WILL BE MORE COMMON ACROSS THE S-CNTRL MTNS/RED DESERT
OWING TO CLOSER PROXIMITY TO THE MID-LEVEL JET AXIS.

   ...WRN SD/NEB PANHANDLE/FAR ERN WY...
MARGINAL AFTERNOON WIND SPEEDS MAY LEAD TO BRIEF/LOCALIZED CRITICAL
CONDITIONS. LATEST DIAGNOSTIC DATA INDICATE A LLJ CENTERED ACROSS
THE REGION ATTM. MODEL GUIDANCE FORECASTS ARE INSISTENT ON SHIFTING
THIS JET AXIS EWD OVER THE ERN DAKOTAS/CNTRL NEB BY THIS AFTERNOON.
AS A RESULT...SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS SHOULD GENERALLY AVERAGE
AROUND 15 TO 20 MPH TO THE W/NW OF RICHER LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE. WITH
SWLY MID-LEVEL WINDS...MIXING OF WARMING TEMPERATURES ALOFT WILL
LEAD TO SURFACE TEMPERATURES INTO THE UPPER 80S TO MIDDLE 90S. RH
VALUES WILL DROP TO AROUND 15 PERCENT...PRIOR TO MUCH MORE
   SUBSTANTIAL MOIST ADVECTION OVERNIGHT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0331 AM CDT SAT SEP 22 2007

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE WRN CONUS WILL GRADUALLY SHIFT
EWD...BECOMING CENTERED ACROSS THE ROCKIES BY EARLY MON. DOWNSTREAM
RIDGE AXIS WILL EXPAND E/NEWD ENCOMPASSING THE OH RIVER VALLEY/ERN
GREAT LAKES REGION INTO ERN ONTARIO/WRN QUEBEC. A SURFACE TROUGH
WILL MOVE EWD INTO THE CNTRL DAKOTAS ARCING SWWD INTO ERN CO. A
BROAD AND STRONG LLJ WILL MAINTAIN WINDY BUT MOIST CONDITIONS TO THE
E OF THE SURFACE TROUGH. STRONG WINDS SHOULD ALSO OCCUR ALONG THE
LEE OF THE NRN/CNTRL ROCKIES BENEATH AN INTENSE MID-LEVEL JET.
WIDESPREAD CLOUDINESS/POSSIBLE RAINFALL WILL LIMIT SURFACE HEATING
AND PREVENT CRITICALLY LOW RH VALUES FROM BEING APPROACHED.
