   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0444 AM CDT THU OCT 04 2007

   VALID 041200Z - 051200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A PORTION OF THE SRN GREAT
   BASIN...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL DIG SWD ALONG THE WEST COAST THROUGH
TONIGHT. AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM...STRENGTHENING MID LEVEL WINDS WILL
SUPPORT INCREASING SFC WINDS OVER MUCH OF THE INTERMTN WEST. A
STRENGTHENING SFC PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN A DEEPENING SFC LOW
PRESSURE OVER CENTER WY AND A BROAD AREA OF SFC HIGH PRESSURE EAST
OF THE MS RIVER WILL RESULT IN INCREASING SLY WINDS OVER THE PLAINS
STATES. MEANWHILE...A BROAD UPPER RIDGE OVER THE ERN STATES WILL
CONTINUE TO SUPPORT WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN THIS REGION.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN GREAT BASIN...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH...MIN RH
   READINGS AROUND 15 PERCENT

AHEAD OF A STRONG UPPER TROUGH...AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN
OVER THE NRN GREAT BASIN ASSOCIATED WITH STRENGTHENING MID LVL FLOW
OVER THE SIERRA NEVADA. AS A RESULT...SUSTAINED SSWLY WINDS FROM
20-25 MPH WILL DEVELOP BY LATE MORNING. LOW RH READINGS AROUND 15
PERCENT WILL COMBINE WITH THESE WINDS TO SUPPORT A CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER THREAT.

   ...FRONT RANGE OF CO/ERN WY...
AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL STRENGTHEN OVER THE HIGH PLAINS OF ERN
WY TODAY. AS A RESULT...SUSTAINED SLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WILL
DEVELOP ACROSS THE FRONT RANGE OF ERN CO. MILD TEMPERATURES IN THE
80S COMBINED WITH DEWPTS IN 20S WILL PRODUCE MIN RH READINGS AROUND
   15 PERCENT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0444 AM CDT THU OCT 04 2007

   VALID 051200Z - 061200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR THE SRN GREAT BASIN/LOWER CO RIVER
   VALLEY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL DIG SEWD INTO THE GREAT BASIN TOMORROW.
STRONG WSWLY SFC WINDS WILL DEVELOP AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT ACROSS THE
FAR SRN GREAT BASIN AND LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY. THESE WINDS WILL
COMBINE WITH LOW RH READINGS TO PRODUCE ANOTHER DAY OF CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS. MODERATE SLY WINDS WILL ALSO CONTINUE OVER THE
PLAINS STATES ASSOCIATED WITH A STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN A
LEE TROUGH/SFC LOW ALONG THE FRONT RANGE AND SFC HIGH PRESSURE OVER
THE ERN STATES. MOST OF THE PLAINS WILL SEE MODERATE RH READINGS...
EXCEPT FOR THE FRONT RANGE...WHERE RH READINGS LESS THAN 20 PERCENT
ARE EXPECTED. A BROAD UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER THE ERN STATES
CONTINUING THE MAINLY DRY/WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURE REGIME.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - THE SRN GREAT BASIN/LOWER CO RIVER
   VALLEY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WSWLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH...MIN RH
   READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT

STRONG MID LEVEL WINDS WILL COMBINE WITH MID LEVEL COLD ADVECTION TO
PRODUCE MODERATE SFC WINDS ACROSS THE AREA TOMORROW AS A STRONG
UPPER LOW/TROUGH MOVES INTO THE GREAT BASIN. DESPITE COOLER
TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S/80S...STRONG SUBSIDENCE/DEEP MIXING LAYER
WILL SUPPORT LOW DEWPTS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS/TEENS AND MIN RH
   READINGS LESS THAN 15 PERCENT.

   ...CO FRONT RANGE...
SLY WINDS WILL INCREASE OVER THE AREA TOMORROW AS STRONGER UPPER
LEVEL WINDS OVER THE CENTRAL ROCKIES SUPPORT A DEEPENING AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE OVER WY. LIMITED MOISTURE RETURN /DEWPTS IN THE 30S/ AND
WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS AROUND
20 PERCENT. THIS AREA WILL BE MONITORED FOR A POTENTIAL UPGRADE TO A
   CRITICAL OUTLOOK.
