   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0401 AM CDT SAT OCT 06 2007

   VALID 061200Z - 071200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR EASTERN PLAINS OF COLORADO...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INTERIOR VALLEYS AND MOUNTAINS
   SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD FROM THE GREAT BASIN INTO THE
ROCKIES TODAY. SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL THEN BUILD INTO THE GREAT
BASIN...CAUSING OFFSHORE FLOW TO DEVELOP AND STRENGTHEN ACROSS SRN
CA LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. FARTHER EAST...SWLY WINDS WILL
INCREASE OVER THE SRN/CNTRL ROCKIES AND WRN HIGH PLAINS. THIS WILL
RESULT IN WINDY AND DRY CONDITIONS OVER PORTIONS OF ERN NM/ERN CO
THIS AFTERNOON. ELSEWHERE AROUND THE NATION...A STRONG UPPER RIDGE
OVER THE ERN HALF OF THE CONUS WILL MAINTAIN WARM TEMPERATURES AND
   MODERATE RH.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ERN PLAINS OF CO...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY WINDY WITH LOW RH

AS THE AFOREMENTIONED UPPER TROUGH APPROACHES THE ROCKIES THIS
AFTERNOON...A SURFACE LEE CYCLONE WILL ORGANIZE OVER WRN NE/NERN CO.
THIS WILL BRING STRONG AND GUSTY SLY/SWLY SURFACE WINDS OF 30 TO 40
MPH TO NERN NM AND ERN CO DURING THE AFTERNOON. RH OVER ERN CO WILL
FALL TO ABOUT 15 PERCENT...LEADING TO A PERIOD OF CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS. RH WILL RECOVER RAPIDLY AFTER SUNSET AS A
STRONG COLD FRONT ADVANCES EWD THROUGH THE AREA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INTERIOR VALLEYS/MTNS OF SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: BREEZY OFFSHORE FLOW AND LOW RH

SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD INTO THE GREAT BASIN TODAY...
TURNING THE FLOW TO OFFSHORE THIS AFTERNOON. BY THIS EVENING...VERY
DRY AIR WILL ADVECT WESTWARD TOWARD THE COASTAL BELT OF SRN CA.
OFFSHORE WINDS WILL INTENSIFY OVERNIGHT AS THE PRESSURE/THERMAL
GRADIENTS CONTINUE TO INCREASE. THE COMBINATION OF LONG TERM
DROUGHT...LOW RH READINGS/POOR RH RECOVERY AND STRONG WINDS WILL
SUPPORT A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT FROM LATE THIS AFTERNOON
   THROUGH TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INTERIOR VALLEYS AND MOUNTAINS
   SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER TROUGH OVER THE WRN U.S. WILL OPEN UP AND MOVE INTO THE
PLAINS ON SUNDAY. AHEAD OF THIS TROUGH...MODERATE SWLY SURFACE WINDS
AND LOW RH WILL LIKELY LEAD TO ANOTHER DAY OF NEAR CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE SRN HIGH PLAINS. FARTHER WEST...SURFACE
HIGH PRESSURE BECOMES WELL ESTABLISHED OVER THE GREAT BASIN KEEPING
OFFSHORE FLOW AND A VERY DRY AIRMASS OVER SRN CA. ELSEWHERE AROUND
THE NATION...HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE AND ALOFT WILL KEEP LIGHT
WINDS AND MODERATE RH OVER MOST OF THE ERN CONUS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INTERIOR VALLEYS/MTNS OF SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: BREEZY OFFSHORE FLOW AND LOW RH

MODERATE OFFSHORE WINDS AND LOW RH /WITH POOR NOCTURNAL RECOVERY/
WILL CONTINUE OVER SRN CA SUNDAY. NELY SURFACE WINDS WILL BE
STRONGEST SUNDAY MORNING /15 TO 30 MPH/...GUSTING TO 40 MPH IN THE
TERRAIN FAVORABLE LOCATIONS. THE AIRMASS WILL BE VERY DRY WITH
MINIMUM RH FALLING TO 5 TO 10 PERCENT. THE OFFSHORE FLOW WILL
GRADUALLY WEAKEN DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING...BUT LIGHT
OFFSHORE FLOW WILL CONTINUE SUNDAY NIGHT AS THE SURFACE HIGH SHIFTS
   TOWARD THE ROCKIES.

   ...NERN NM...
AN UPPER LEVEL SHORTWAVE MOVES OVER THE FOUR CORNERS REGION SUNDAY
AFTERNOON...LEADING TO ANOTHER ROUND OF GUSTY WINDS AND MODERATELY
LOW RH OVER THE ERN PLAINS OF NM. A SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL MOVE
THROUGH NM SUNDAY. LOCATIONS NEAR/EAST OF THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL
NEAR CRITICAL THRESHOLDS...AS SLY/SWLY SURFACE WINDS APPROACH 20 MPH
