   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0335 AM CDT SAT NOV 03 2007

   VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NORTHERN AL/NORTHERN GA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
LONGWAVE TROUGH WILL INFLUENCE MUCH OF THE EASTERN HALF OF THE
COUNTRY...WHILE UPPER RIDGE DOMINATES MOST OF THE WESTERN STATES. AT
THE SURFACE...EXPANSIVE HIGH PRESSURE WILL ENCOMPASS MUCH OF THE
COUNTRY FROM THE GREAT BASIN TO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS/SOUTHEAST
STATES. DRY/GUSTY OFFSHORE FLOW WILL CONTINUE TO HEIGHTEN THE FIRE
DANGER ACROSS SOUTHERN CA...WHILE LOW RH VALUES/MODERATE WINDS OCCUR
ACROSS THE DROUGHT-STRICKEN SOUTHEAST STATES. OTHERWISE...A WINDY
PATTERN WILL EXIST OVER THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS AMIDST RELATIVELY
   COOL CONDITIONS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: MODERATELY STRONG OFFSHORE WINDS AND VERY LOW RH

MODERATELY STRONG/GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS WILL BE ONGOING THIS
MORNING...WITH A GRADUAL DIMINISHING TREND EXPECTED THROUGH THE
AFTERNOON. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20-30 MPH APPEAR LIKELY...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS ABOVE 40 MPH POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY THROUGH FAVORED
CANYONS/PASSES. EAST-NORTHEASTERLY WINDS AND LOW RH WILL LIKELY BE
STRONGEST ACROSS LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES. THE WINDS WILL
COMBINE WITH VERY WARM TEMPERATURES WELL INTO THE 70S/80S AND RH IN
THE SINGLE DIGITS/LOWER TEENS TO CREATE HAZARDOUS FIRE CONDITIONS.
THE GUSTY WINDS WILL CONTINUE TONIGHT...ALTHOUGH THEY SHOULD BE
SOMEWHAT WEAKER AND MORE LOCALIZED. RH RECOVERY WILL REMAIN POOR
   OVERNIGHT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NORTHERN AL/NORTHERN GA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY LOW RH/GUSTY WINDS AND EXTREME DROUGHT

A REINFORCING SURGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL RESULT IN SLIGHTLY
INCREASED WIND SPEEDS AND VERY DRY CONDITIONS/LOW RH THIS AFTERNOON
ACROSS MUCH OF THE SOUTHEAST STATES. THE MOST CRITICAL COMBINATION
OF LOW RH OF 20-25 PERCENT...AND WINDS OF 10-15 MPH...IS MOST LIKELY
TO OCCUR ACROSS THE NORTHERN PORTIONS OF AL AND GA. ALTHOUGH WINDS
WILL ONLY BE MARGINAL...THE EXTREME-EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT CONDITIONS
COMBINED WITH VERY LOW RH WILL RESULT IN CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS.

...SC/NORTHERN FL AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF GA AND AL...
SURROUNDING THE CRITICAL FIRE AREA...VERY LOW RH IN THE 25-35
PERCENT RANGE WILL BE LIKELY FOR SEVERAL HOURS THIS AFTERNOON...BUT
SLIGHTLY WEAKER WINDS ARE EXPECTED AT AROUND 10 MPH OR LESS.

...WESTERN DAKOTAS/WESTERN NEB AND ERN WY...
WEST-NORTHWESTERLY WINDS WILL INCREASE BEHIND A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH
WITH SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 20-30 MPH AND HIGHER GUSTS. HIGH
TEMPERATURES WILL REACH THE UPPER 50S/LOWER 60S. IN SPITE OF THE
   STRONG/GUSTY WINDS...MARGINAL RH VALUES/CLOUD COVER SUGGEST CRITICAL
   CONDITIONS ARE UNLIKELY.

   0340 AM CDT SAT NOV 03 2007

   VALID 041200Z - 051200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
LONGWAVE UPPER TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO PREVAIL OVER THE EASTERN
TWO-THIRDS OF THE CONUS...WITH A REINFORCING SHORTWAVE TROUGH
EXPECTED TO CROSS THE CANADIAN PRAIRIES/UPPER MIDWEST ON SUNDAY.
HIGH PRESSURE ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN IS EXPECTED TO GRADUALLY WEAKEN
THROUGH THE PERIOD...WITH THE OFFSHORE GRADIENT RELAXING ACROSS
   SOUTHERN CA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: LOCALLY GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS AND LOW RH/WARM
   TEMPERATURES

AT LEAST MARGINALLY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY TO
CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY ACROSS THE COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN CA.
LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS WILL BE ONGOING EARLY SUNDAY MORNING...BUT THE
GREAT BASIN SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE AND RESULTING OFFSHORE GRADIENT
WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN THROUGH THE PERIOD. WHILE WINDS WILL BE
DIMINISHING...VERY LOW RH VALUES IN THE SINGLE DIGITS/LOWER TEENS
ARE AGAIN LIKELY SUNDAY AFTERNOON...ALONG WITH WARM TEMPERATURES
   WELL INTO THE 70S/LOWER 80S.

   ...SOUTHEAST STATES...
MILD TEMPERATURES AND VERY LOW RH VALUES OF 25-30 PERCENT ARE AGAIN
LIKELY SUNDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS MUCH OF THE SOUTHEAST STATES.
HOWEVER...IN CONTRAST TO DAY 1/SATURDAY...WIND SPEEDS ARE EXPECTED
TO BE CONSIDERABLY WEAKER...WITH 5-10 MPH SUSTAINED WINDS TYPICAL IN
   MOST LOCALES.

   ...NORTHERN PLAINS...
GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS EASTERN MT/EASTERN WY AND
MUCH OF THE DAKOTAS ON SUNDAY. SUSTAINED NORTHWEST WINDS MAY REACH
25-30 MPH /WITH HIGHER GUSTS/...HOWEVER CLOUD COVER AND COOL
TEMPERATURES/SUFFICIENTLY HIGH RH VALUES WILL TEND TO LIMIT THE
   OVERALL THREAT.
