   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0237 AM CST FRI DEC 21 2007

   VALID 211200Z - 221200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A POTENT UPPER-LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGH OVER THE SWRN CONUS WILL
TRACK EWD TOWARDS THE SRN HIGH PLAINS THROUGH EARLY SAT. AS HEIGHT
FALLS INCREASE DOWNSTREAM OF THIS WAVE...SURFACE CYCLOGENESIS WILL
COMMENCE ACROSS THE OK/TX PANHANDLES. THIS LOW WILL TRACK ALONG THE
RED RIVER DURING THE EVENING/OVERNIGHT AS A COLD FRONT PUSHES S/EWD
THROUGH THE PLAINS. FARTHER W...STRONG HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD INTO
   THE NRN/CNTRL GREAT BASIN.

...FAR WRN/SWRN TX AND SERN NM...
LOCALIZED/SHORT-DURATION CRITICAL CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR THIS
AFTERNOON AS LOW/MID-LEVEL W/SWLY FLOW INCREASES WITH THE APPROACH
OF A SHORT WAVE TROUGH CURRENTLY OVER THE LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY.
ALTHOUGH LATEST MODEL GUIDANCE FORECASTS CONTINUE TO VARY WITH THE
TIMING OF STRONG WINDS REACHING INTO THE SRN HIGH PLAINS...SUSTAINED
SURFACE WINDS SHOULD MOST LIKELY RANGE FROM 15 TO 25 MPH AT PEAK
HEATING. DESPITE CURRENT SURFACE DEW POINTS IN THE
TEENS...SUBSTANTIAL UPPER-LEVEL CLOUDINESS WILL TEMPER INSOLATION
RESULTING IN MARGINAL AFTERNOON RH VALUES /AROUND 15 TO 20 PERCENT/.

   ...LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY/SRN CA...
OFFSHORE FLOW WILL STRENGTHEN THIS MORNING AS A SURFACE COLD FRONT
SWEEPS SEWD. STRONG SUBSIDENCE IN THE WAKE OF THE DEPARTING SHORT
WAVE TROUGH WILL FAVOR RATHER GUSTY NLY WINDS ACROSS THE LOWER CO
RIVER VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON. SUSTAINED SURFACE SPEEDS SHOULD AVERAGE
AROUND 25 TO 30 MPH. COOL TEMPERATURES /50S TO LOWER 60S/ SHOULD
RESULT IN MARGINALLY LOW RH /AROUND 15 TO 20 PERCENT/ DESPITE DEW
POINTS PLUMMETING THROUGH THE DAY. FARTHER WEST INVOF COASTAL
RANGES...OFFSHORE FLOW SHOULD GENERALLY NOT BE QUITE AS STRONG. BUT
THIS WILL ENHANCE DRYING AFTER RECENT PRECIPITATION/MOIST
   CONDITIONS.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK

   0243 AM CST FRI DEC 21 2007

   VALID 221200Z - 231200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR FAR S-CNTRL TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
DISTINCT NRN AND SRN STREAM UPPER-LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGHS WILL
CONSOLIDATE OVER THE CNTRL CONUS RESULTING IN MAJOR SURFACE
CYCLOGENESIS OVER THE UPPER MS RIVER VALLEY/WRN GREAT LAKES LATE SAT
INTO EARLY SUN. AN ASSOCIATED SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL PUSH E/SE
ACROSS THE MS RIVER VALLEY/WRN GULF OF MEXICO. FARTHER WEST...A
MID-LEVEL IMPULSE WILL QUICKLY AMPLIFY SWD ACROSS THE PACIFIC NW/WRN
GREAT BASIN. THIS WILL WEAKEN SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE CNTRL
GREAT BASIN WITH THE SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT RELAXING ACROSS SRN
   CA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - FAR S-CNTRL TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / HIGH KBDI

A COLD FRONT WILL PASS SEWD THROUGH THE AREA SAT MORNING WITH GUSTY
NWLY WINDS FOLLOWING IN ITS WAKE. THE BRUNT OF COLD AIR ADVECTION
SHOULD LAG FARTHER N AS DOWNSLOPE EFFECTS CONTRIBUTE TO AIR MASS
MODIFICATION. AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL GENERALLY REACH INTO THE
UPPER 60S AND 70S WHICH COMBINED WITH RAPIDLY FALLING DEW
POINTS...SHOULD RESULT IN RH VALUES OF 15 TO 25 PERCENT. ALTHOUGH
MODEL GUIDANCE FORECASTS ARE SOMEWHAT VARIED WITH THE STRENGTH OF
LOW-LEVEL FLOW...SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS AROUND 20 TO 25 MPH APPEARS
   SUFFICIENT FOR A CRITICAL THREAT.
