   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0318 AM CST SAT DEC 29 2007

   VALID 301200Z - 311200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH OVER THE GULF OF ALASKA THIS MORNING WILL MOVE SEWD
AND INTO THE WRN CONUS ON DAY 2. THE RESULT WILL BE AN AMPLIFICATION
OF THE BROAD UPPER TROUGH PRESENTLY OVER THE CENTRAL CONUS. IN THE
WAKE OF THIS DEEPENING UPPER TROUGH...A LARGE AREA OF SFC HIGH
PRESSURE WILL BUILD SWD INTO THE GREAT BASIN. THIS WILL RESULT IN
THE ONSET OF OFFSHORE WINDS ACROSS SRN CA AT THE END OF THE PERIOD.
A LACK OF A SUFFICIENTLY LONG DURATION OF THESE CRITICALLY STRONG
WINDS COMBINED WITH AN ONSET AT NIGHT WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL
OUTLOOK AREA ISSUANCE UNTIL DAY 3. ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE
NATION...DOWNSLOPE FLOW WILL INCREASE OVER THE SRN PLAINS IN
RESPONSE TO THE APPROACHING WRN TROUGH. HOWEVER GENERALLY COOL
TEMPERATURES AND/OR MODEST WIND SPEEDS WILL PRECLUDE ANY CRITICAL
   FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   ...SRN CA...
AS A RESULT OF A BROAD AREA OF SFC HIGH PRESSURE /1030 MB/ BUILDING
SWD OVER THE GREAT BASIN IN THE WAKE OF AN UPPER TROUGH...OFFSHORE
/NELY/ WINDS WILL INCREASE AFTER 00Z ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN/WIND
FAVORED AREAS. HOWEVER...INITIAL RH READINGS ARE EXPECTED TO BE OVER
25 PERCENT GIVEN THE TIME OF NIGHT AND EXPECTED DEVELOPMENT OF
STRONGEST DRYING DURING THE DAY 3 PERIOD. HOWEVER...SUSTAINED NELY
WINDS FROM 25-35 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED AFTER
06Z...LEADING TO AN INCREASED FIRE DANGER.
